  1. Exactly. We've all been fans for 15+ years (and some users have been active on this board for that time!). It's ridiculous to suggest, well you dont like this album fuck off now.

  3. Cynical has easily the best chorus on the record, has genuine lyrics, is one of the only songs on the record where the guitars feel a little bit like they could punch you in the balls (if the production hadn't strangled them they'd have been killer) it isn't formulaic and straight forward like 99% of California, and...THAT FUCKING CHORUS!

  4. i love matt's "i don't need anyone" line and the way he delivers it. compliments aside, can you imagine what this song would sound like if they had a real producer? damn.

  5. Not sure if you saw this the other day but I posted something about this. For a lot of us it's almost like following the ups and downs of a sports team. You get to know them, you follow them, you understand the inner workings, and you root for the best. At this point after rooting for the best and being rewarded for years and years, it's not possible to just give up on the band and stop paying attention. It's too much fun to keep discussing.

  7. Apple shampoo is one of the greatest blink songs ever. I love it dearly.

  8. Ah, this reminds me, they actually still do play a pretty cool intro to Carousel sometimes. Here's a video I took of them playing Carousel in 2011. I really like the intro. It was right before Neighborhoods came out so at first I thought they were playing a new song. Haha.

  9. I'm in love with their alternate versions of songs from 2004. STFK with the extended bridge, Down with the extended outro, The Rock Show with the extended bridge. I don't understand why they stopped doing stuff like that. Aside from I Miss You, which still has a pretty awesome live outro to this day (though it's not quite as cool as the way they used to do it). I said I almost never listen to bootlegs, but I still listen to STFK and Down from those '04 bootlegs I have, plus the pro-recorded (and I assume heavily fixed up in the studio) Rock Show and I Miss You from Pepsi Smash that were actually released asbonus tracks on certain versions of Untitled. I listen to those four quite often.

  10. I dunno. Personally, and yes we all agree everything is subjective, I just don't get it. Cynical was good when compared to 90% of Cali, but in terms of the rest of the blink catalogue, to me it's nothing special. Quite average really.

  11. plus 44 did a better job about singing about mature things. HISALP is just cheesy

  13. this is true. both heels. it delayed the dude ranch sessions, but did not impact their quality imo. i have also gotten drunk at a party and gotten injured (and i was about his age, or a bit older). again this does not mean you "have a problem." funny side note; my GF at the time and i made a get well soon card for scott when mark told us what happened at the hotel coronado that night. i drew a cast and a crutch on the blink bunny:

  15. GOTDF Cynical is massively overrated.

  16. right, it's one of the those songs with one long continuous narrative. like no use for a name's "life size mirror." a rarity in the pop punk genre, which is why i think it stands out as exceptional even more.

  17. They play my favourite version of STFTK ever on that bootleg live in Georgia 04

  20. It's fun to see how different everyone's opinions are about California. Cynical is a top blink song for me. I don't love Matt's voice on California but I really love it on Cynical. It's more intense and contrasts better with Mark's in this song than pretty much any other song. I want more new blink songs with this kind of energy. For me, California is undoubtedly a pop-punk album, but with far too much emphasis on the pop and not nearly enough on the punk. Cynical is the most "punk" sounding song on the album to me. I want more blink that's pop-punk but with more punk than pop. But I also just want more variety in general. I don't want another album that sounds so much the same the whole way through. Give me some dark blink. Give me some aggressive blink. Give me some super poppy blink, as long as the entire album isn't that. Give me some acoustic, give me something sad, give me something happy and triumphant, give me something raw. And give me something totally different and new as well. I love it when blink experiments and tries something new. Adam's song was different, and it was great (honestly not one of my very favorites but I appreciate their branching out). Most of Untitled was different, almost every track on that album was basically a different genre, and it's my favorite album. Though Neighborhoods wasn't widely praised, at least they were still trying to evolve their sound, rather than going backwards at an obvious attempt to recapture their glory days of MTV superstardom and sold-out arenas of 14 year-old-girls. More than anything else I just want it to sound genuine again. I can't describe why exactly, but their new stuff sounds fake and forced. I miss Mark overthinking his lyrics because they usually turned out great in the end. Now it's fairly obvious that they're putting little to no thought into their lyrics and themes and it makes a big difference. I can't exactly put my thoughts into words and probably wouldn't be able to back this up in an argument, but it just doesn't feel the same anymore. Aside from a select few moments--like the bridge of Bored to Death--it doesn't feel like blink-182 anymore. It feels like John Feldmann The Band (feat. members of blink-182).

  21. How you can listen to Cali with its production the way it is totally fine but take issue with Dude Ranch's production baffles me. Yes, Dude Ranch is one of the worst records blink has in regards to production but it still sounds like fucking punk music. It's like saying you love spicy food but praising taco bell and disliking actual mexican food.

  22. I don't get the love for Cynical either.

  23. I agree, there might be a good song buried there somewhere, but they took a dump on it for sure, the triple vocal tracked "Is it back again....." The stupid random "Whoaaas" and the "not sorry, not sorry, not sorry, I'm not sorry" response..... Just very much ruins a lot of it.

  24. I think though you may not relate to wwr's lyrics now, I'm sure at one time in your life you could have and that's the connection. As most blink songs you can kind of grow out of but that's the glory of it it brings you back to a time in your life.

  25. I like the album but I think the only top top quality song to come from it is San Diego. Fucking great song that.

  26. Just one day after I saw them live. I thought it had been my imagination all these years that they played the songs as fast as shit and Travis over sold himself on the drums. Turns out I hadn't imagined it at all.

  33. why do you give a fuck so much about those of us on here that actually enjoy the album? Seems fucking weird to me. God forbid we have different musical taste.

  36. They originally said California was a mix of Enema and Untitled so you know, never ever ever listen to anything they say. ever.

  37. I can't count how many times, in the last two years, Mark has mentioned Dude Danch to describe some songs from California.. and they were all anything like Dude Ranch.

  38. Yeah but he also says parking lot is like an old blink song like dude ranch so he's clearly lost his fucking mind. Jesus

  39. Didn't expect Ghost to win this. Ghent and his bum boys are yet to vote though so still expect Cynical to win

  40. Yeah there was some venom there. Tom brought it on himself, or at least opened himself up to criticism over the years but I think that was Mark and Tom's real relationship in the reunion tour. That right there. Not the fake hug, we're all still friends bullshit they scripted every night on the first reunion tour. I remember once Mark mocked Everything is Magic in a video and I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cringe. There is definitely a difference in their banter from earlier eras even though they're just mocking each other basically.

  41. i think 'home is such a lonely place' is a better ballad than on any other blink album.

  42. Genuinely: -Bored to Death, for quite a while -Hey I'm Sorry, ignoring the intro -The Only Thing That Matters, though it's been a while -San Diego, minus the main chorus -Cynical was a go to every day, but having gotten really tired of the same yelling Matt every song it's gone stale

  43. i decided to shut the fuck up for a few days and revisit Misery today. i honestly don't mind it. still NOT what i want them to be doing as a band, but i'll take this over the majority of California. really love Matt's voice on this song. Mark's bridge is kind of the boner kill. how many times is he going to try to recreate what he did in Feeling This? stop sneaking through high school girls windows and referencing pop culture for fucks sake

  44. I come here to have a good time and also quality discussions about Blink and not for a wankfest about how great Feldy is and which generic song from Cali is better...

  45. Basically the story of the last several years for him.

  46. Hopefully we're gonna get a new Tales From Beneath Your Mom that tells the story of how blink originated 25 years ago when Matt and Travis met Mark in high school.
