  1. With the exception of people who sign up to hock shit, fuck those guys.

  2. I'm kinda confused at what has been happening, I don't come here much but as a blink fan I do love discussing blink topics and sometimes unrelated blink topics. When I first ever visited the forums, the only thing I remember is Oliver trashing Tom DeLonge and blink. I could've sworn he hated blink. I used to read the posts and think "man what an ass" but as I visited more I realised he was actually a likeable dude. This was like 8 years ago before I even made an account. Took me about a good 6 years to decide to make an account though. Point is, I think despite the criticisms of blink or whatever, it won't stop new people visiting even if they see a thread that's a complete shit storm. All forums & boards are gonna have a section of people that seem to hate whatever it is the boards support, which in this case is blink-182. Like I said, I'm kinda confused at what's happened so if what I said is completely off topic, then I apologise on my part haha

  3. for the record @Ghent I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm attacking you, I'm really not. as you know I just really want to help - I know you're new to this, and I'm not pretending to have all the answers, just trying to give you some feedback that's actually constructive. I am all for what you guys are doing, it just means occasionally I may sound like an ass haha.

  4. That's not the attitude to have. If the thread turns sour sure, then maybe delete the tweet - but the whole point is to direct people to the board, you should be promoting discussion topics. it's just a case of establishing what you expect and want, or letting the board be what it is and advertising that fact. Either you try and have the board change it's culture, or you promote it for what it is and don't hide it.

  5. Trying to attract new members now is pretty pointless, your best bet is to have a push when the next album cycle gets in full swing. All you've done is just delete a load of peoples opinions (who have posted here for years) in the hope you can attract a couple new members who probably won't even post, shit move.

  6. That would be difficult. I think it comes down to @Ghent and @Olidamus coming to a consensus on what they want blink-182online to become. If they want to pull in newer members and encourage more respectful discussion then maybe implementing something like actual rules would be a good unifying way of doing so. However, they both are fans of the legacy of this board - and that legacy is frankly a free for all of insults, practical jokes and in some cases bullying. if they want to not 'censor' people, and keep this place true to it's roots, then they'll have to sacrifice potential new members to do so. as the owners that's up to them. As the current culture stands, Ghent locking the safe space thread and then deleting the studio thread makes him look like the person we all know he both isn't and also doesn't want to be (i.e. "power mad" as people here like to say). but without that decision and discussion between them in place we're stuck in a sort of limbo. If they're wanting our feedback and input, then maybe we need a thread in the development section that's locked to users with >1000 posts or something, so we can discuss together a best course of action without potentially alienating any n00bs. Personally I think if this place is to survive it needs new life, and that encouraging some gentle respect amongst members isn't a bad thing. but severity of said rules is going to be the issue as too harsh will be just as bad for the board - and I also think I'm mostly alone in this opinion and the majority of major posters will be against it.

  7. I understand the potential backlash or lost potential for the board with that link, but in the same breath you also deleted a lot of posts by a lot of members - which is something you came down hard on Herpes Boy for. I don't necessarily think that's hypocritical as the circumstances are very different, but I imagine others may feel differently. Would it be a good idea to 'restart' the thread about the studio, without the whole board-new-members discussion involved? alternatively you could have just deleted the tweet and split the topic into two, leaving the studio related discussion as is.

  9. Haha I wish the boards made money. Would make me feel better about all the effort put in only to get heckled for it.

  10. I actually thought the safe space thread was a good idea. Not sure what happened there.

  11. I don't understand the tiptoeing to get new members. We are all here and we came here without the boards having to be censored. The new members will come, if they're not able to handle the tone in here - good riddance.. Also @Ghent, I totally understand the decision in deleting the thread, I wouldn't have done it, but I definitely get it!

  12. I come here because no one in real life talks obsessively about my favorite band. That's it. Oh, and to vote in one of those Best blink Song contests. I stayed because of habit and keeping up with you fine folks. Insult slings and all.

  13. It's understandable man, it's not that big of a deal and it's giving everybody a reason to discuss this anyway. I can only speak for myself but I don't think people were deeply offended that you deleted things, it's more just confusion about what you're setting out to do. Decisions like that make sense if this was your own fan site and our posts were only the comment section of your site that you didn't want to distract from the main content or something. But the message board is itself a message board, the thing you are promoting is by nature a bunch of people talking/debating/sharing news/somethings arguing about Blink 182. Gotta just lean into that I think. The fact that we're all still here in 2018 should make this place an oasis for other insane people like us if anything haha.

  14. i believe they're talking about one of the on this day tweets. i mentioned alternative press in the tweet and they retweeted. ghent is probably going by impressions, which tells you how many times it came up on someone's timeline, not necessarily that they interacted with it. the tweet garnered 62 retweets and 304 likes, which are great numbers, really, but 36,000 is sort of a stretch

  16. Yeah, I'm on this boat too. Not against anyone, just observing the decission. Administrating a forum and moderating it it's a HARD thing to do, so I guess we understand that. I get this as an opportunity to rebuild the spirit of a grerat place. I'm sure it will turn out all good.

  17. Yeah I really don't know what was embarrassing about that thread at all. If anything it showed this board has life even in the middle of some serious down time. I wonder if personal feelings get confused with "business decisions" when the people who run the board are also some of the most active posters. Hard to separate things like that. As someone who used to be a member of a few other thriving band message boards, I neverrrr saw things get deleted or locked just for being spirited debates. Mods on other boards didn't use editorial power other than enforcing rules and people understood that the main thing that creates a good message board is activity, not one-sided opinions. I also never saw such strict corralling of conversation like not allowing new threads to be posted and trying to keep all discussion within predetermined areas, but that's another topic and just how this place works I guess haha. This isn't a diss on Ghent or any mods because those guys obviously generate a ton of good discussions here, but it might be a good idea to separate their personal opinions from board oversight type stuff a little more.

  18. I agree. If someone new comes in and shares good opinions (positive or negative) and isn't just trolling or something, they shouldn't be met with name calling and trolling and just general shittiness. I don't think that happens very often anymore (maybe because new people barely ever show up) but if the goal is to have more new people then we shouldn't act like a pack of lunatics toward anyone who dares to enter haha.

  19. Yeah, I agree, deleting the tweet was the only thing that should've been done. There was an important discussion going on in there about how to bring new members to the boards. I think it's important to show that we're conscious of the culture that we've created here and want to fix it. Deleting the thread removes that. edit: words

  20. I think just deleting the tweet would have been sufficient. It won't take long for new members to figure out what the dynamic here is like, regardless of any individual thread.

  21. i don't have any. BUT the plot thickens with regards to the lagwagon sticker. i took this picture at the san diego warped tour, july 2, 1997. look, no sticker: so something is up about that oddville date...

  22. It's not so much the concept of playing a different root note and playing constant upper notes. That's classic blink. It's more the fact that Matt doesn't play with the formula. When Matt does it, he is playing the bottom note twice, and then the top note once, almost every time. Tom at least played around with the order. What's My Age Again and Dammit use the same idea but they're totally different sounding riffs. Matt** took Tom's riff from Story of a Lonely Guy and used it on almost every song. **probably Feldmann

  24. Yeah! It was actually nice to see peoples positive thoughts about the two albums. We should start a new safe space Parking Lot is still my car jam. I can't help myself to scream CHICAGO along with Matt. Just can't Edit: The California Safe Space. Great name for a thread

  25. I don't think it would scare away new posters. At the end of the day, as soon as they join, they're gonna see negativity about California and Feldman on other threads as well.

  26. @Nosferatu Ghent made thread about blink going back into studio as it was mentioned by Travis that thread was tied to the blink-182online twitter account, had lots of views, got about ten pages long thread was mostly on-topic but wasn't too kind to California, lots of discussion about negativity, Feldmann, Alkaline Trio, etc and how the fans view that record and the band's current shape Ghent deletes thread because he thinks it's toxic and would scare away potential posters am I missing anything?
    1 point
  27. Appreciate that, but just for the record, I never wanted to censor anybody! That was actually part of the reason why I lashed out and deleted the thread without talking to Oliver. I didn't like being accused of that, and the last thing I wanted to do was go and consult with other people at the time. so i went rogue and made a decision on the fly that i thought was best for the boards Trump voice: No censor! No censor. Ghent does not want censor!

  28. Ghent is just trying to make this place better for people and it should be, he just had a few missteps im process, it's not a big deal. That being said, I reserve the right to give him a hard time about everything.

  32. the music video doesn't actually mean what the song is about. there's loads of music videos that have nothing to do with the song meaning. First Date isn't about The Beegees either, you know that right?

  34. There is nothing wrong with going back and forth on Cali/Feldy/Tom all day as long as it is somewhat respectful and in the correct thread IMO. Yes, it may get tiring to those who are here every day but when the band isn't doing much there isn't much else to talk about. New people will want to jump in that and have a voice either way. The only thing that could use improvement is keeping dedicated threads somewhat on topic (so for example the Blink Hittin The Studio thread should've been split off into a new thread or a moderator could step in and tell people to move it to a new thread once it was derailed). The other as I have mentioned, is just basic common courtesy towards other people and particularly new people.

  35. Yeah but it also drove conversation and activity and, frankly, still is.

  36. I agree, there was no real mud slinging - just strong opinions sprinkled with a bit of banter and friendly piss taking here and there. It was also a very active thread with a lot of people getting involved with differing opinions. Not sure what's embarrassing about that? in fact I think it's a pretty fair representation of what this forum is about. Unless we're trying to trick new members into thinking we're something we're not, which would be pretty lame.

  37. The thread was a shit show, and having it tweeted 35K times does kind of make us look bad. Not even talking about new members, but it general. Think the Sasha fake interview. But this was not the right move. I am sorry that it was removed.

  38. I don't think irony of the song was lost at all. Talking about the weather being perfect and staying inside is pretty on the nose.

  39. That, or just have a clear set of policies about the boards and its use. If not, there's an important chance to take random decissions about deleting posts or threads, just because someone feels it embarrasing, being that a personal opinion. As pointed above, deleting the Tweet would be enough in case there's any reason to feel embarassed...

  40. I think it's a song of lost potential. it has a solid point, and the chorus is actually really good, but it's so clean that it shows of Marks vocal weaknesses too much. You could argue it's intentional for the larger metaphor but... well I doubt that, because the same issue applies to songs like San Diego. but yeah, California, though not a song I listen to often, I at least appreciate the effort in.

  41. Exactly! it's like those awkward moments with FOB when Pete Went butts in and sounds like an idiot, like on Get Busy Living for example.

  43. it's actually one of my favorite lines on the album, because it's so true. the three decades i spent in southern california, that's something you do. it's gorgeous outside. but hot. you sit inside with the AC on.

  44. GREAT CATCH! this also means that every warped tour picture of tom's guitar post-lagwagon is by definition warped 97, not 96.

  45. I mean, I mostly like it because the verse drum part is amazing, it actually sounds different to all of California, the lyrics in the verses are mostly solid, I actually like Matts background screaming and the chorus contrasts with it well. I even love the bridge. my only gripe with the song (outside of production) is the talky Matt bit. it's lame as hell.

  47. I'm jealous of all the 90s folks who got Blink in college. I definitely got stuck in the early millennial stages where everyone locked themselves inside to watch YouTube or game.
