  1. For real, what in the actual fuck is going on in this place?

  2. I read about this on Chorus, and it's a nifty idea - so I'm stealing it. It's like a book club - the idea is the introduce each other to new music. Essentially, if you wanna listen to new stuff and share music you love, tell me in this thread and I'll make a list of members. Each week, I will put two members together and they'll PM each other about records, (to work out which ones the other hasn't heard before) and they'll share said record (youtube or Spotify link or something). Each person has one week to listen to the record, and during that week/at the end of it, they post in this thread their review of the record given to them. doesn't have to be huge, just a post explaining what you liked or didn't like, if it'll become regular listening for you, if it's made you look into that artists discography, etc. I think this could be really fun and as someone who super struggles to get into new music I think it could be cool. I think 10 people is a good place to start but if we get more than that, awesome. So post here if you're interested, I'll start a list going and when we have a sizeable amount of interest I'll get this rolling. Let me know what ya'll think UPDATE - Here's a running list of the weeks so far! Week 1 - Charly Bliss "Guppy" @boxelder Week 2 - Culture Abuse "Bay Dream" @Elisa Week 3 - Luisa Sobral "The Cherry On My Cake" @Ghost Week 4 - Arkells - "Michigan Left" @Patient #48273 Week 5 - Ty Segall - "Manipulator" @Nasa Week 6 - Frank Turner - "Love Ire & Song" @Kay

  5. FYI: keep in mind, home grown was playing "she said" (and other tracks from act your age) live in 1997.

  6. i'm convinced that no video for voyeur was ever shot. for one, the lyrics "i'd eat her out" were way, way too risqué for a major label single, let alone video, in 1997. i mean, they banned the original M+Ms because of the shootout. you think they're going to let those lyrics fly? and with tom pantomiming cannibalism of said lyrics? if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you... related: indeed, the first version of josie (underwater) does exist. voyeur was *never, ever* in consideration for a single, though they played it regularly up to and a while after DR's release. interestingly, pathetic was considered at MCA, but never issued as such. it's listed on all early promo materials: i'm calling mandela effect for anyone who claims to have seen it, on MTV or otherwise.

  7. pretty darn sure mark's hair was not blue in jan 1996. i was at the [end of the goodtimes tour] show at SOMA (jan 27, 1996) and have camcorder footage from that show as well. not blue. perhaps he's remembering the famous kerry key photo used on the cargo promo materials. mark has blue hair and is mid-jump at the showcase theater. that photo was taken july 18, 1995.

  8. I finally got around to watching this. I could not for the life of me find a stream/download that had subtitles explaining the Apes' sign language. Man, I missed out so much when watching this movie. I tried like 7 different steams as well as downloading a torrent, but nothing. It was amazing though. Beautiful cinematography and you really wanted the Apes to succeed. I thought the major downside was the humans weren't fleshed out much and you didn't care for them much. I'll rewatch it again when I can find subtitles because I feel like I missed 20% of the movie.

  10. Spining it right now (well finishing it). Hell yes. This is a good throwback to the late 60s early 70s sounds. I can hear some late 60s early 70s Beach Boys's echoes (from Pet Sounds to Sunflower). Also, picking up some vibes to Odessey and Oracle from The Zombies in some songs and little parts, pretty logical, TBF. I can see the derivative feel you pointed out, @Nasa, but I guess it makes sense. The thing about going into revival mode, is that you already know what happened back in those years, so you can go through the different sounds and evolutions and kind o make them yours, which I think is that Ty is doing here. Funny thing about this kind of artists that go to revisit old sounds, is that when they bring them to the present and modern studios, you can 'hear' another refferences crossed with other bands. I mean, some parts remind me to bands like Suede or Pixies (The Singer, for example), but that's because, probably, Pixies had similar musical refferences, although their sound was not the 60s-70s sound, obviously. Kind of when you hear About a Gilr from Nirvana and, somehow, it sounds like a Beatles song. So, when you pay attention, you can understand how bands like them had that kind of influence, although by the caracteristics of the production they are kind of hidden. I don't know if I'm explaining myself, haha. I swear I'm sober!!! And yeah, It's Over could have been an Oasis song. Really good record!

  11. I've always heard about Ty Segall but I never got the chance to take the plunge into his big discography. So thank you Nasa for suggesting an album to start with. I really liked it! I enjoyed the gritty riffs and the psychedelic feel of the first part of the album because it sounds fresh and not dated. And I can hear a lot of influences, from Black Sabbath to Talking Heads and Jack White. Even Oasis (which he probably doesn't like.) But I think I prefer his slow rock/acoustic and more melodic side on songs like Green Belly, The Clock, The Hand, Mister Main or Don't You Want To Know? (Sue) and that's probably because I hardly listen to hard rock anymore. Some of the songs are less memorable than the others, which is bound to happen on an album with 17 tracks but that doesn't mean the album is a jumble of songs. I think it's well put together and cohesive, with a timeless vibe because he was able to mix together different ideas without leaving his comfort zone and that is talent in and of itself. Vote: 7.5 and I will definitely listen to it again. Best tracks: Don't You Want To Know? (Sue), The Feels, The Singer, Tall Man Skinny Lady.

  15. I turned 30 two months ago, and I haven't been able to get into "new" music for years. I think it has to do with the fact that I despise so much shit that gets released these days. And I'm honestly happier listening to music that I know, and already enjoy. The only "newer" music I enjoy comes from bands like Parkway Drive and other heavier bands. It seems that there just isn't as much effort put into some work by a lot of bands nowadays. It is what it is. I'll just listen to what still makes me happy. I like that.

  16. I have a love/hate thing going on with King. Loooove the Dark Tower series, Salem's Lot and a ton of his short stories and novellas, but he's also the most consistent author of books I have started but never finished. Definitely read more of his work in my younger years but I don't denounce him the way some people do who used to enjoy his books growing up. All that said, stick with The Stand. I really enjoyed it. Probably the most "literary" of all his works. I'm not big on religious imagery in stories, super overused to make repetitive and over-done metaphors/commentaries, but for some reason The Stand got a pass for me. Tried to start IT again recently but it's just tough for me to get into.

  17. going through and correcting postimages links. i was using the site to quickly archive posters/flyers, but they changed their URL so i can’t figure out how to reclaim the old ones. i’m going through thibaut's contributions and finding each, adding them to the NEW postimage, and then backing them up using archive.org, so perhaps we’ll have these forever. also adding an extra bullet for some shows (mostly between 1994-1996 so far) with an “other bands” listing so one can easily find who played what shows with blink. i’m also trying to move away from imgur as i’ve learned images are deleted six months after uploads unless they receive a certain number of views. eventually i want everything to be a archive.org link

  18. Luke grew up in a golden house of pampering compared to Rey, who was dumped by her parents and fended for herself in every way through terrible conditions and hard work. Yet Rey is a Mary Sue?

  19. Pretty true. Revenge of the Sith is overall quite good, yeah its cheesy, but its pretty damn enjoyable. And I liked Rogue One a lot. Force Awakens was acceptable for what it was, nothing amazing, clearly retreading ground, but understandably so, and it was still enjoyable all the way through. I actually liked a lot of Solo, and I didn't even want to see it, it was just part of a double feature at the drive-in where I was seeing Infinity War a second time. Still, Solo was also pretty boring and dull looking throughout a lot of it. In all honesty, the only Disney Star Wars movie I straight up don't like at this point is The Last Jedi. I'm not crazy about the others, but they've all been serviceable. Still its not hard to see that these movies could be so much better, and I do think a lot of why they haven't been good is because Kennedy has been at the helm needlessly pushing an agenda into the Star Wars franchise.

  20. alrighty added all that info since the last time i updated (june 1 and 15). lotta fun stuff added. what’s cool is some of the posters you find @Thibaut182 make official kevin-182’s dates from back in the day… i never had any reason to believe they were ever fabricated, but having evidence via posters. another cool thing is there are certain shows — for example, the 6/5/1996 gig in st. pete, fl — that were previously listed with a question mark because we had no other info. then this random person on instagram comes forward with a poster, and you manage to find it, post it, and then it’s in here forever. also rad: how you cross-referenced mark’s original road report for the rained-out chicago date of the '96 warped tour with scott heisel’s recent memory of it from the AP article. that type of stuff amazes me. you do the most work in this thread and i want to thank you.

  21. I'm 30 and I still discover new acts all the time. What I liked at 14-15, I can still "like" it to a degree, but I can also see how dated and questionable it can be. I just don't see myself as stagnate, but things aren't as mind-blowing as they once were. But I will say that new "popular" music is hard to get into. But I think it's because the music is just not that great, not that I "just don't get it".

  22. Honey, you won't. Be prepared for that. I devoured music as a teenager, and now I desperately struggle to like anything at all. I turn 30 in 9 months.

  24. It's not the opinion itself, though misguided it is, it's the overload and repetitive nature of it. Would think if you didn't like something that came out a couple years ago you'd be bored talking about it by now and would move on to something else. This section is a cringe-fest for me. Hard to illicit any response besides trolling. It's that bad.

  26. There is nothing even remotely rooted in reality in that sentence, fan fic boy. Just because Mark and Tom have different personalities and feelings when it comes to the music they write, it does not mean Mark is some kind of raging insecure loser that has been taken advantage of by the evil Failedmann. You're being ridiculous
