  1. My impressions after watching a several of these pro-shot videos: All things considered, this is the most professional they've ever looked/sounded/acted on stage. You can just feel the happiness and comfort and authenticity oozing (ejaculating?) out of all of them. They're fully taking it seriously and having the time of their lives doing it. It seems like they're embracing and enjoying every aspect of the Blink experience for the first time since like, the Enema days!? For that reason, I understand using backing tracks 100%. It's not just to "make it sound like the album," it genuinely makes the experience more magical for the audience to have such a full lush sound. With these guys (especially Tom) you're always going to get plenty of variation and ad-libs and spontaneity to make it feel live. Like Travis said in that Rick Rubin podcast, they just love being a 3 piece and this allows them to remain a 3 piece while still giving the crowds the type of experience they deserve. HAVING SAID THAT, the backing tracks do go too far at times... I get having synths, strings, keys, some guitar layers, some extra background vox, but it becomes distracting and weird when Mark is roaming around the stage during the chorus of Anthem 3 while his co-lead vocals are playing, or Tom is stepping back from the mic to let everyone yell "OLE OLE OLE" but then you can still hear a vocal track go "YEAH" It's very obvious that they are legitimately singing and playing live throughout the show (sorry Diddy), but I feel like those parts of the backing tracks are unnecessary and kinda cheap. Anyway, that shit doesn't diminish the experience at all for me, just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. I just feel so happy that this is the thing to over analyze right now instead of a sullen Tom drunkenly yodeling with a short-billed hat pulled over his eyes, or any of the other depressing versions of Blink we've endured over the years. We're lucky! Soak it in, people!

  2. They’re not technically wrong, so fuck you.

  3. How can CAROUSEL be mid? It's still one of their best songs. It has everything. Best bass line of all time, no rhymes and yet it still works flawlessly, the angst, the nostalgia, that very unique Cheshire Cat vocal delivery from Tom, still relatable at 34 as it was at 14. Bring it back please.

  4. Dissing Carousel… jesus H, fuck off Jan

  5. Carousel is iconic and there’s no way they’re too old to play it. If that was true then they’re too old to play half their set.
    7 points
  6. Carousel might be a top 10 blink song. Entire discography. Thinking it’s mid is just wrong.

  7. Have you watched the pro shots from South America? I’m not saying they don’t use backtracks. I’m saying Tom’s guitar is clearly in front of the mix. or do you think they purposely record sloppy backing tracks with tons of wrong notes?!

  8. I apologize to the board for attempting to discuss the fucking backing tracks in a nuanced way. God dammit.

  9. How can you think carousel is mid and call yourself a blink fan? Just doesn’t work.

  11. Someone on the blink Reddit asked if there was any other online blink group or forums. Someone replied and said we are a bunch of old heads who hate the band and hate each other lmao

  12. I can’t believe Tom Delonge fans are dismissing a band because of rough vocals.

  15. seeing mark and tom together offstage still feels so fresh and warms my heart. so glad they got over the bullshit

  16. Exactly. You can hear Tom’s sloppy live guitar playing everywhere on those shows haha

  17. It's like a cornerstone song for the band. One of the first songs you hear after "getting into" the band that seals the deal

  18. these SA shows have just reinforced how much I love More Than You Know. So fucking good.

  19. I really think we need to circle back to Jan not liking Carousel. I just read through 10 pages and I can't stop thinking about that. Like if you don't like that song, why do you like this band. Unbelievable.

  21. Pathetic would be incredible. was a setlist staple for years.

  22. I just finished watching their show in Colombia! It was great and Tom plays his guitar on all the songs! Wendy Clear and DWM are still the best part of the setlist and the way the Colombia festival crowd gets even louder on the deep cuts almost made me emotional. Now I know why Tom cried the other night 😂 (I still haven’t watched the cometoBrazil show though) - in South America you’ll never get the blank stares on old songs Mark is so afraid of.

  23. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7eX9t2bItc Last night's show (some songs missing). So fucking tight that we suddenly have all these pro shot shows! They sound so good! Tom was really feelin hyper haha. Diddy and other purists might dig this one because Tom's actual guitar is front and center in the mix. Can't really hear the backing tracks very much. EDIT: holy fucking shit Anthem Pt 3

  24. That is an all-time bad take Jan. Gotta find a way to walk it back or this will become your entire identity here

  25. The only thing that’s missing from an otherwise perfect reunion tour is really Carousel.

  26. Up All Night got a HUGE reaction at my show and I really didn't expect it, but it probably won't leave the setlist because it's the only Neighbourhoods song they play now. Down and Violence should go. Down in particular. I know they keep Violence because of the drum solo and Violence has been one on my favorite songs for years, but it's been on the setlist nonstop since 2003 and I got tired of it. It should be retired for a bit and in the meantime Travis can do a drum solo on a different song. Asthenia and Easy Target sounded incredible live in 2014, they should take the place of Violence and Down. Or just bring back Carousel and add a Dude Ranch song.

  29. Don't get The Offspring hate. Up until American Idiot they were almost as big as Green Day, direct competitors for Pop Punk Kingdom. They just went downhill while GD and blink matured enough to put AI and Untitled album. Offspring just lived and still live thanks to their wonderfull run Smash to Americana. They belong in another family though, they're Rancid, NoFX, GD brothers while blink's are Sum 41, Mxpx and Alkaline Trío. Next family would be Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Yellowcard, NFG.

  30. I believe that Josie, Carousel, Wishing Well, Untitled, Pathetic, Asthenia, Mutt and M&Ms are all songs that they should play live once in a while. I'd be curious to hear Every Time I Look For You too now that they use backing tracks.

  36. Can we maybe work on not having the same discussion over and over? The backing tracks thing has been beaten to death. Or at least make a thread dedicated to talking about it so it doesn't derail threads

  37. Dumpweed opening and Dammit closing is my ideal start and finish for a set. Honestly, though, blink has never had a problem with openers. Feeling This and Anthem Pt 2 are both wicked. That said, I'm expecting we get Anthem Pt. 3 as the opener on the next run of NA shows. Can't wait to see that.
    4 points
  38. I still maintain Dammit would be a great opener. It’s a hill I’ll die on.

  39. Unless they’re doing some mainstream festival like Coachella, I can’t ever imagine them getting blank stares on any of their songs. If anything, I’d be willing to bet they’d get an enormous reaction on their own tour if they busted out some deep cuts, whether that’s in the US, SA, Europe, or anywhere else.

Oh and also absolutely don't come here stealing content from the Blink 182 Timeline thread and making it as your own work, that is much appreciated and I'll make sure to call them out just because

  47. I thought they sounded great at Chile and Argentina. I like that they play to tracks cause it makes it sound fuller and the synth in Wendy Clear was awesome. I hope Dance With Me and Turpentine are staples in the set for years to come. Already craving another new album. I love this band.
