_Kyle_
Well that's anecdotal evidence at best? I mean, you're experience doesn't equate others. My neighborhood never ever had parties and we mostly kept to ourselves majority of the time. Crabby old people dominated my neighborhood. I got a cell phone in 11th grade (2004) but didn't have the internet until I was 11-12 (98-99). I am in the perfect age range to know pre-internet, and post internet for a kid. High Value Man
Now we have to break out the statistical data for Kyle. Even worse, we're not talking to the neighbors we do have. Data from the General Social Survey shows that people are less likely to socialize with their neighbors than they were in the 1970s, when less than a fourth of the survey respondents “reported no interaction with their neighbors.” Today one-third of us ignore the people next door. http://mentalfloss.com/article/65065/americans-are-becoming-less-social
High Value Man
98-99 is late for internet I think, I got in 95 at age 13 y/o which I think was very early. But at that time internet was not what it is now obviously. A streaming video was a freezed frame picture refreshing every 20 seconds at best. A website took 10 minutes to load, etc.

I knew I had reached "adulthood" 2 summers ago when I called the city to complain about my neighbor's grass being too high lmao. Pisses me off so much! And yeah, kids these days have everything 1 click away. I used to work in IT at a school corporation and it would blow my mind how picky these kids were when they would search for porn on school property. Back in my day, I had to ride my bike over to the designated area in the woods and pray the older guys left the Penthouse magazine buried in the right spot. You would think these punks would just google "Boobs" and be happy, but oh no, they were searching "2 girls fucking on the beach in L.A. 1 blonde, 1 black", just the craziest shit lol.

BobbyCuomo
Calling milleneals lazy is the biggest joke. Our generation has been completely shafted by the boomers. We will work longer and will we die with less

But that doesn't mean people this generation are necessarily shyer (which could be argued since forever), they just don't value interaction face to face as much. Really, given how much more we work, could be a huge factor as to why we're not gallivanting around the neighborhood. You said they post all the time on facebook, well that's primarily how people communicate now, through electronics. You're observation is on the surface correct, but there are a lot of variables at play and it shows how much interactions have generationally changed rather. That's anecdotal of course, but to me it's night and day.

But I agree that things are harder today in the workforce and it is something a lot of boomers don't get and simply dismiss as "lazy" and "whiny". But there is most definitely a coddled culture today. Takes people longer to grow up today for sure. Back then 18 year old male went off to war and you were a fucking MAN, today that BOY goes to the IPHONE store to get the latest phone and goes back to their parents to download the latest apps. And I am not letting myself off the hook, I was coddled big time.

Ghent
There are plenty of ways to support yourself and make a meaningful contribution to society without fighting in a pointless war.

Our generation is soft as fuck. That seems kinda debatable. Considering the cost of school, and how much you even get out of it. I agree that there are worse.. Like half the people my age still travel as their life (which is cool and all), or took up until they were 25 to even consider working full time.. I think millennials are less ambitious as well? Anecdotal, but most ppls dreams require too much hardship & embarrassment that they won't want displayed on social media... If you know what I mean. Also back in the day, people could be waiters or bartend and get by while they chase a dream, nowadays that seems unrealistic pay wise and you can't just walk into a bar and ask for openings anymore. Everything has a line and process online you have to go through. Even one of my 'connections' I used for a solid job after college took me through a vigorous 2.5 month interview process online. I was like can you just give me the fucking job? Man I sound like an entitled millennial, but it sure as shit is a tough workforce out there. Even with a good degree you're going to get stuck with some shit and have to jump around. Older generations will say millennials are non loyal as well. Hear it all the time. But higher ups will treat you like shit in terms of growth and you won't get anywhere unless you look out for yourself. I personally want to be loyal for someone, but they make it damn hard. And almost EVERY big company has a recycle mindset of it's employees instead of wanting to move you up.

Now people bury their heads in facebook. Obviously, there are exceptions of all kinds. But I remember the 80's and early 90's in my neighborhood, it was SOOOOO different, and when I moved in to my house the old timers would tell me how they use to have social events at the pool every single week and how everyone knew everyone else. Now if you get like 5 people there, that is a shocker. Again, let me reiterate, this is a generalization of a generation. But generally speaking, it is true. Tee Hee. So true, nowadays the person who stays off social media the most, does real things and is out and about is considered the weird or lonely one, but the ones killing it on Facebook everyday are the winners.. I thought that shit was gonna stop after I graduated, but it didn't. People still have an agenda to post and rank ppl by likes... If it's still this way when I'm mid 30s I might kill myself. I even had someone who tried to socialize with me ask me about every Netflix show.. And I said I've seen two of them... And he goes ".. Jeez. Then what the fuck do you even do? ". He was being dead serious. All through end of highschool college, people I knew would want to do something just to take the picture and share it and get likes..It would drive me nuts. They would come out to a bar to take a a group photo where we pretended to have a great time then leave early! I'm like can't we just enjoy our youth and actually experience this shit? I want to go camping! No one wants to fucking camp or do adventurous shit like that because it's not photo friendly. Man this has become a ranty Monday.
_Kyle_
This is a fair request, and I promise I will not judge any person only as a teenager. You will constantly remind yourself that some of my generation judges people by their race, their belief, or the color of their skin, and that this is no more right than saying all teenagers are drunken dope-addicts or glue-sniffers.

Well I knew you or someone, was going to take it there. That wasn't the point. The point is, going into the military makes you "adult" very quickly. The whining, bitching, and blaming others for your problems goes away. You learn self discipline, you learn to take responsibility for your own actions, you learn what real work is about and you learn to adapt to situations and learn to cope. All that can be learned outside of the military as well, but a lot of the younger generation these days doesn't learn that.
Patient #48273
I was mainly being flippant with that comment, but in all seriousness, I think being in the military and especially going to war fucks people up more than it makes them adults. But I guess it depends on what you value.
