Q182
Yes. That pickup is a key player in both the tones for Cheshire Cat, Dude Ranch, and the subsequent 7"'s as well. Also what kind of amp/guitar do you have.

I have a Squier Standard strat and a Fender champion 100 amp

Warmoth sells pickguards with the angled humbucker slot (or you can make one yourself to save a few bucks). Regarding amps, I would look into some tube amps as well if you really want to nail the tone down. A few to look into are the Marshall JCM 2000 (the most common), Ampeg VL-1002 (or 502, doesn't matter, I have the 1002), and of course any Mesa Boogie Rectifier for future reference.
daveyjones
yea, the ampeg VL-502 was tom's head during the CC era. it's the one he customized with that light up blink sign: both of tom's heads at the whiskey on october 8, 1996. the bottom one is the VL 1002: the top one is shown here, at DML studios in early 1996. both had custom blink art behind the lighted plate: some fun info if you're looking for more options for the tone of the 90s:http://geargods.net/m/ubiquitous-mediocre-amps-90s/
