Didn't they play Cynical, Bored to Death, She's Out of Her Mind, Sober, Los Angeles, etc. live on their California tour?

Neighborhoods was their most unsuccessful album, both critically and from a sales perspective. Why would they focus on it? They play Wishing Well and already played Ghost on the Dance Floor, Up All Night, After Midnight, etc. when they toured with Tom.

I would like to hear more Dude Ranch for sure. But they're just trying to appeal to the masses, while still throwing in some deeper cuts (Going Away to College, Dysentery Gary, etc.).

Where are you finding this information?  Of the ones that are reviewed on Metacritic, not counting TMTTS, California is actually the worst reviewed blink album : http://www.metacritic.com/person/blink-182.  Not trying to be a dick, I'm genuinely interested in where you found this.

Another thing to remember, when Blink were in their prime and their albums were initially reviewed, the critics weren't necessarily fans of Blink.  Fast forward 15-20 years and there's a good chance that the critics who reviewed California, grew up with blink and were possibly fans.  Viewing it through that lens, to me, it is even more telling that California received such "meh" reviews.

I’m still seeing blink on their site for Saturday, not sure where you saw this at.

Oh. My bad!! I read it on a Facebook post that popped up on my feed . Feel free to yell at me for not checking the website!

I just based it off California being nominated for a Grammy, getting WAY more radio play time and popularity in general, and the sales. I remember the reception was pretty positive when it was released, which can't really be said for Neighborhoods.

Thanks for the response.  I agree with most of your points but they have more to do with popularity than artistic merit.  For the Grammy, I attribute it to more of a lifetime achievement award and the sad state of rock music, but that's just my opinion.

everyone remembers this disaster but i found it interesting that 150k of Fyre Festival's budget was blown on a yacht for blink. i can only imagine such a thing was negotiated by the band in order to agree to play the festival.

I think the 150k yacht was just a chartered yacht to get Travis to the festival since he doesn’t fly. It’s the only thing that makes sense. They wouldn’t care about having a yacht at the festival lol.

Or they would.

it wouldn't cost $150k to get travis from Miami to the bahamas. i think blink is more high maintenance than people here think they are. if they were invited to play a luxury festival catered toward rich people who were renting out private beach villas (obviously, it was all a scam), i wouldn't rule out the idea of the band expecting that have a yacht to stay on to separate them from all of the other rich people. where else would they have stayed?

I keep bringing up Laura Jane Grace's book so I'm sorry for doing that again, but she casually mentions in the book that when Against Me! were touring with blink a few years ago, blink refused to come out of their individual dressing rooms and didn't talk to or socialise with the other bands at all. It wouldn't shock me if at this stage they really are kind of high maintenance and up their own ass.

I've been meaning to read this! Just out of curiosity, remind me when they toured together? Did Blink hate each other at the time? haha

We already know Travis is high maintenance after the fiasco with him and that Australia festival promoter. He can't fly, so I'm sure he demanded special transportation to get him to the Bahamas. He's not going to get on a fishing boat ffs. This is the same guy who rents half of a cruise ship and brings his drums and a music studio on his trips to Europe.

It's hilarious when people act like it's some secret that the guys in blink make millions and spend lavishly. Mark owns a second home on a fancy farm outside of London ffs.

Matt's first purchase with blink money was a fucking Prius lol. Why is he not allowed to enjoy the money he makes? They put in a shit load of work recording and touring extensively and it was a big success. Good for them.

i think it’s been established tom’s always been weirdly moody/insular on tours, more recently preferring to stay with his family or fly home on breaks. there’s no evidence travis was ever super sociable either. marks the only one you’d ever find riding bikes outside the venue or greeting fans or hanging out in town. he loves touring. i don’t think the band is collectively up their own ass or antisocial. marks always been nice
