  1. I'm very late but let me rant about this: Cheshire Cat is just amazing. I played it at work the other day and I wanted to cry. It's just like when you're at the gym and you think you've hit a wall but when any songs from that album come on, you get a second wind. Bad comparison? I know. But I'm tired and I'm struggling to come up with one that actually fits ?‍? And Dude Ranch is their best album. It put Blink onto the scene, brilliant punk rock, overdrived Drop D guitars, gritty riffs and hoarse vocals. I don't have problems with the production, even though we all know Jerry Finn was something else. Try to listen to any pop punk album from 1999 or 2001. And then play Enema and TOYPAJ. They still are so fresh and there is nothing stale about the sound that makes you think "oh these albums are so good but they definitely are a product of their time." And Untitled's forte is the fact that it really is one of those albums you can keep going back and listening to and every time you do, you find new things to love about it. Then you have albums from the early 2000s or albums released less than 10 years ago that haven't aged well at all, but Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch have aged so well. And all the albums they did with Finn too of course. This is very rare for a band, and this is also why we're still mad at California.

  2. I love everyone here but sometimes I wonder if the cali lovers ever sit in their dm chat groups and come up with ways to cover and defend everything the band does/has done since Tom left so they will always have answers to those who complain. We know they ditched those songs just because they wanted to start from scratch with Feldy and see what was going to happen from there. But they definitely weren't bad songs, some of them probably weren't going anywhere but most of them must have been great. But we'll never know because we'll never get to hear them, so just relax.

  3. Just cause songs like KOTW, Parking Lot, Sober etc made the cut, doesn't mean that they're better than the ones that didn't make it. Man Overboard didn't make Enema, and it's better than most of the Enema songs. Not Now didn't make the smiley face album outside of UK, yet that's arguably one of the best blink songs ever. What Went Wrong was simply a bonus track out of 6 songs and they chose it for certain discs only, yet I find that better than anything off TOYPAJ. Hey I'm Sorry is superb until it gets ruined by the generic Feldman chorus of woahs. The verses and the pre-chorus alone together are the best things from California IMO. Feldman didn't even say they were bad songs. He simply said they just didn't sound like blink and that they sounded like +44 and Alkaline Trio, hence why they weren't put onto the album. Plus Feldman is all about selling records and a mash up of +44/Alkaline Trio isn't gonna do well on the radio or charts. Of course he'd convince blink to start from scratch. Also, Mark's judgement of songs is very questionable. Guy views California as the best blink album. Guy barely mentions +44 which IMO is his best work. Guy makes no mention of Kaleidoscope, which is one of the best blink songs ever.

  4. Not to mention the horse vocals at the end of Boring!

  5. Say what you want about rebel girl but at least you can tell Tom wrote the fuckin thing. Take the mark and matt vocals out of BIOMY and it could be anyone’s song.

  6. I'd love in a few years time when they finally put blink to bed and go 'fuck it' to the saving face mentality and just release everything. old demos, the blinkumentary, all of it. see all of it in its potentially awful glory for a quick buck.

  7. Congratulations! You win the boards, we can all go home now.

  8. Indeed. Except it has everything to do with the fact that they weren't blink sounding songs. Interviews confirmed it. Feldman has confirmed it. Feldman wanted a fun upbeat summer album. Mark & Skiba were probably writing very dark & depressing +44/Alkaline Trio stuff that wasn't radio friendly at all. The verses of Hey I'm Sorry although amazing are bleak as hell. They liked the songs. They found them worthy. They just didn't fit their ideas of what blink should sound like.

  9. Hey I'm Sorry would have been amazing if feldmann didnt OHHH WOOHH OHH it ?

  10. This is so spot on it's not even funny. All of it including Hey I'm Sorry, the verse sections were the best part of California imo. It's so weird how much Mark avoids +44 hype. Like he'll acknowledge it only in Q&As and that's it, it's like he's embarrassed by it for no good reason, it was honestly his best work. Maybe he feels petty about it? Idk.

  11. This sounds like a bitter old man post. It doesn't sound like another song, it doesn't have to. An upbeat Always maybe if it really matters, similar song structure and 80s stuff. When I hear "Do you want to go Back to where we started, back before we were broken hearted" I immediately feel blink vibes and Tom writing. Actually even got some chills. And that little guitar breakdown? So Tom. I'd put it on DED ep level of goodness.

  12. That tweet is absolutely right, you can hear blink inside of Tom still, all the ways he takes the moods of the song is totally blink and it's becoming more and more apparent he was the actual artist of the band. Rebel Girl is not a bad song at all, I've actually been coming back to it daily, you guys are tripping. Boimy is miserable and everyone WANTS TO LIKE BLINK.

  17. HISALP sounds exactly like a blink acoustic song. Long Lost Feeling kinda has BCR vibes in the verses and has the blink STFTK/Adams Song/Bored to Death style of guitars. Los Angeles actually sounds like a blink song in progression. The intro of it isn't that different from FTG, just a faster and more poppy and heavier version. The bridge of it is vintage blink. Last Train Home was probably there to keep Skiba happy since he shines on that song and has more charge in it than most. Bottom of the Ocean sounds like Mark continuing that FTG/Los Angeles/+44 electronic sound. Don't even need to explain why Sober was there. That was a hit in the making despite it being a shit song. This below is why they ignored most of the older songs. Mark simply doesn't like revisiting older songs. As a songwriter, I know the feeling. I don't wanna go back to a song I wrote 2 years ago as I feel they aren't fresh or new.

  20. Both of the singles didn’t impress me. I’m not going to discuss BIOMY since I share the same opinion with most of the people on this board. I honestly thought Rebel Girl sounded like a modernized version of the Love albums. Unfortunately, I’m not a fan of those albums because that’s when Tom started choosing quantity over quality and it began to show. AVA’s music has always been cheesy to me and all of their songs sounded like a copy of another song from the same album. There are a few songs I actually liked but I never cared for the band until Ilan Rubin joined and heavily influenced The Dream Walker, which led to a brand new sound for the band. I even liked Chasing Shadows and I’m not even sure if he was on that album considering it’s more Tom-led. I think AVA works a lot better as a experimental synth-rock band than a motivational stadium-rock band that sounds like a diet-Coldplay. The only thing I like about Rebel Girl is the verses, but I still think it’s the better quality song over BIOMY. I don’t see the blink resemblance, just sounds like your average AVA song.

  21. Mark has said before he doesn't like going back to songs that were written in the past and that they just like to move on. It's just how he works. I'm not the biggest Alkaline Trio fan, I find a lot of they're stuff samey and repetitive. They do have some amazing songs though. Plus those demos probably would've been similar in that sense. Barely any decent riffs and all would've had very generic +44/Alkaline Trio vibes. But I do think the songs would've been a lot more honest and genuine than what we got. It would've been a flawed album, because Skiba and Mark were getting used to each other. But even then, some of those songs would've been amazing. I think blink fans would've been happy with it. It wouldn't have had nearly as many haters as California got or what BIOMY got. It would've been a solid effort. Probably wouldn't have made a commercial impact because the +44/Alkaline Trio sound isn't radio friendly. I wasn't a fan of the title of one of the songs though. It was "Punk Rock Cliche" and I remember an interview in 2015 and they mentioned that as the title of one of them. I cringed at that one.

  22. Still doesn't mean they're crap songs. Sometimes an artist doesn't know what kind of song they have. Sometimes the song might not fit on an album. There's a song that I've delayed working on yet I find it's the best idea I've had. But it doesn't fit on my album. I can't find space for it. Does it suit the vibe? Is it too contrasting? There's different reasons why a song won't make an album. Doesn't mean they're crap. Plus everything is subjective. They didn't start from scratch for Feldman to get his writing credits. Feldman has already mentioned the songs before and said they didn't sound like blink songs. That was why they didn't make the album. All the information has been revealed by blink themselves and Feldman about the demos. They simply weren't "blink" songs. Last line definitely isn't fan fiction. There was an interview & magazine with Mark fairly recently that was posted on the boards. Can't remember if it was Kerrang or something, but there was a ranking list made by Mark of blink albums from best to worst. California was number one and smiley face was number two. Mark views California as the best. And I remember Mark saying that about Baby Come On. But outside of one song? He barely mentions +44. Most people don't even view that as the best song on the +44 album. And Kaleidoscope is rated pretty highly on these boards. Definitely one of the best blink songs for me. But as I said earlier, everything is subjective.

  23. Dude Ranch is full of pure goddamn gold. It's funny, it's full on, it's got great tracks, great in-betweens, some of blinks best guitar work and the lyrics aren't even that bad either... it's just solid. I also love the fact that Travis isn't on it. as much as I love the dude and his work in blink is iconic, I do like the straight forward pure aggressive style Scott Raynor has and it shines on Dude Ranch. I tend to go back and forth on my favourite blink release but I always come back to Dude Ranch.

  26. I guarantee you since simple creatures has gone down pretty well, they’ve rewritten everything to have a poppier feel to it. I love simple creatures btw but it’s not what I want for blink. I want some good rock songs ffs.

  27. just checking, because for Skiba the BIOMY lyrics are fairly dull. He's usually capable of better (imo).

  29. Rebel girl sounds more like blink than biomy. I can’t stand the fucking gang vocals in biomy. Ruins the song for me and the rest of it is not good enough to make up for it.

  31. Nice work finding that quote, there's always been confusion around that album with people thinking they were leftover tracks or b-sides when it was actually new material for the most part. That quote is why I've always considered them to be two separate albums.

  32. Including the underwater and winning the war references that you are the leader of the hate train on? So you guys really think that they had some extremely amazing songs, and just threw every single one in the garbage because they were "non-Blink sounding" and then went on to release Los Angeles/Sober/California/ Bottom of The Ocean/Last Train Home/Long Lost Feelings/etc.? None of which really sound like classic Blink, and any +44 vibe material probably would've fit better to begin with?

  33. Willock, Nelson, Smith-Rowe. All 3 should be first team players next year. Get the likes of Ozil out the door and start fresh with the youngsters. They’re too good to not be given their chance.

  35. My favourite single thing on Dude Ranch has got to be the harmonies on Emo, they sound so good and is somehting they only did for that one song (right?).

  37. i bet they are secretly re-recording a bunch of songs, wouldn't suprise me if the album at this stage is full of biomy part 2, 3, 4...imagine mark picking up songs right now out of 50 songs they have - shit, crap, shit... waiting for an announcement of a delay till october, after the tour.

  38. That’s what I was talking about the other day, and was going to hunt Mark down to ask but I’m glad someone also asked the question. If they release their 2015 demos, I hope they do in their purest fashion, only to perhaps mix them before release. I don’t want to hear them polished up to the point where it’s not the original demo anymore. Unfortunately you may be right because I don’t think blink has ever released a collection of just demos and b-sides. As @Kay suggested, when they finally hang it up they should just release everything in the vault.

  39. Yes I have, thought it was really good. Was a bit worried after some mixed reviews but I really enjoyed it. Thought Will Smith's take on the Genie was great and did Robin Williams justice.

  41. When I was first getting to know Skiba I listened to every song he did and this was the “favorites playlist” I made, as a hardcore blink fan that had never really heard much of him: Mercy Me Private Eye Stupid Kid I Lied My Face Off Southern Rock My Friend Peter We’ve Had Enough Donner Party Burn I Was A Prayer Help Me Fine The Torture Doctor Kiss You To Death Lonely and Kold Krazy Warbrain Radio

  48. oh come on, think logically, how can any of you think that the 'hiatus' was a peaceful, "we're all still friends, we'll be back in a year" type of thing? Just look at this one fact, and its obvious that it wasnt: They dropped out of a TSUNAMI RELIEF CONCERT. If the split was a peaceful thing at all, if the plans were from the start to make a new album again ever, they would have had the class to support a very serious cause, seriously nearly 200 thousand people died from the tsunami. Even if there wasnt plans to ever come back, you know that it must have gone down bad if they couldn't come out support a huge cause, and say, "Ladies and gentlemen, this will be our last concert, thank you all for your support, etc." No, the fact they dropped out of such a significant concert at the last minutes, is all the proof i need that things did not end well.
