  1. My daughter has literally been in love with Tom since she was a little kid. She’s now almost 23 and I’m going to get her meet and greets for one of the new shows. She’s going to freak out.

  2. Mark commented on a redos post with two comments and almost no upvotes at the time he commented. Mark definitely reads every post on reddit.

  3. She’s been my blink buddy for almost her entire life. Fortunately she was able to see them before they broke up (again) but never has had the chance to meet Tom. She’s going to be in shock. When we did the blink M&G a couple of weeks ago she made a joke that she would have fainted if Tom had been there. So I may have to wheel her into this one.

  5. Um, it kinda does mean it's meaningless lol if your just throwing words down and recording them without remotely thinking about it then yes, it's probably gobbledegook. tiger from a fucking tree indeed.

  6. This sounds so +44''ish Why can't be have this in blink tho Yes the lyrics are a little bit sappy i guess but it sounds quite honest and that is something i have been missing in blink. These lyrics kinda feel like 2006 Mark Hoppus stuff I wouldn't mind a genuine love song of mark towards his wife as a blink-182 song. Something that comes from the core instead of lyrical expectations and preasure because you're ''Mark Hoppus poppunk dad''

  7. The instrumentals on TOYPAJ sounds all big but nothing gets in the way of eachother. Just comparing the intro of Parking Lot and Rollercoaster, Parking Lot sounds like the entire song is filtered through a big compression effect, while Rollercoaster sounds big in the right way, and thats not even a quality upload. I feel like just snare hits on california kinda messes with how the guitar sounds during that second. Jerry Finn made them sound huge and polished while still sounding like a band playing in a room...something human. The drums sound different but awesome on DED, its the guitars that are kinda behind a glass wall pushed to the background or something The difference in drums from Neighborhoods to DED is also a real thing. The entire Drumkit sounds like shit on Neighborhoods. Snare sounds like a tom without punch, and all the kick/actual tom/ cymbal sounds remind me of some local band's first E.P sounding dry as fuck

  8. They weren't really music videos, they were more just extra features on untitled when you loaded it on your computer.

  9. blink-182 is the reason I think music videos of bands playing in graffiti-covered rooms are lame

  10. It's weird that Mark produced Motion City Soundtrack, with genuinely good production, and better than blink currently.

  11. It was all Jerry Finn. All you have to do is listen to the drums on Boxcar Racer. The drums on that album are incredible. Jerry Finn put so much effort into it it’s amazing. Feldmann on the other mixes for pop radio basically, which is just make everything the same level and blast it. The difference between the two is so huge. Jerry Finn truly was amazing producer.

  12. It sounds exactly like a midi keyboard drums. Which is weird because Travis's drums used to be incapable of replicating on your computer.

  13. sometimes i'll go back and listen to cali DLX and am horrified at how bad travis's drums are butchered. it's clear he doesn't even care... it was jerry and the engineers who were the artists. his snare on bottom of the ocean is downright lifeless. for real, listen to that song from 2:15 - 2:20. just what the fuck?

  14. i really hope tom just takes the L and does some vocal training or something. his AvA live vocals always sound pretty awful

  15. Gold star for you, my man! Everyone pay attention to the example Dan is setting and learn to be better.

  16. The live vocals on Cynical are so sad to hear It sounds like a 70 year old man trying to sing his last words to an audience But yeah, Mark's voice has been solid on adams song these last weeks. He also sounds great on that ''One Little Lie'' live performance from Simple Creatures. But Mark should really train with a solid vocal coach for a good year. Same goes for Matt and his live performance. There are so many factors that contribute to you holding a steady note or not. - Out of breath / ends a lyric really weak without air - Pushing the note higher/lower These 2 things are always the result of not using proper skills or technique, can be fixed with training

  17. Do you guys just call everything creepy? How are Ava's lyrics creepy? If anything, they are sometimes lame, cheesy, or cringey.

  18. a lot of pre-EOTS blink was commonplace on punk compilations in the mid 90s. punk sucks and before you were punk come to mind.

  34. All this Gaslight talk has made me go back and play through their discography. 45 is such a great song, I'm glad I gave it a chance.

  35. Haha I've thought the same thing about that song. I guess his wife at the time probably loved that kinda shit about him.

  36. It’s a very different brand of nostalgia, you can hardly say one ripped off the other. Gaslight (up until American Slang anyway) dealt in the old Americana kind of folklore, a time and a place that never really was. The Menzingers are more straight forward storytellers, the universality of what they’re writing is so relatable, irrespective of whether you’ve lived it or not. Take Lookers, Casey and Anna as exhibits A, B and C.

  37. Chapter 13 is one of the best post- Untitled Mark songs period. They only played it at the first show I went to but I'm happy I got to hear it live once. The acoustic outro was brilliant. Peak Hoppus in my opinion.

  39. I don't think it sounds like every other old AVA song but it is probably my least favorite track on the entire album haha. I listened to it for the first time in a long time earlier today because of this thread to see if I was forgetting something and no, I just don't really like it.

  40. Just listened to Chapter 13 for the first time in a while and damn, this might be one of my favorite album outros ever. Not necessarily the entire song (though I do love the whole thing) but specifically ending the album with Mark singing "I'm scraped and sober but there's no one listening to me at all" and then the little acoustic guitar riff... it just hit me differently listening to it this time and I'm IN LOVE.

  41. I think when Tom went nuts the first time and Mark rightfully laid claim to Blink's legacy almost everybody could agree that he was a hero in all of the craziness. He put out a great album under +44, said all the right things about how much Blink meant to him and that he would never take their legacy lightly and how it was something magic that was created by having the three of them in the room and yada yada yada. Well, Tom's insanity has gone back and forth over the years but he's settled in as a lot LESS insane and ego maniacal than he was in the early AVA days. He's still obviously way out there, but people got more used to it and/or stopped caring so much so he's seen as this crazy uncle figure to most people at this point. Meanwhile Mark has gone back on a lot of those things that he said after the breakup, and instead of pushing Blink forward because it's this meaningful artistic and personal passion in life he has instead worked with outside pop songwriters, steered Blink in weird directions that undermine or cash in on their legacy in some ways, and just overall seems much more "cynical" about it all in the past several years. So of course my opinion on him has changed. 10 years ago I figured Mark was the saint of the band and Tom was a freak. Now I can see that they both are majorly flawed in their own ways that led to where the band finds itself today.

  42. I can see where both of you are coming from. I think Gaslight are more about making references to other bands, literature (i.e. Great Expectations), etc. The 59' Sound is obviously a giant reference to the 50s and Springsteen, but Handwritten is a love letter to 90s grunge bands like Pearl Jam. As the band developed, I feel their lyrics became more and more personal, with Get Hurt heavily referencing Brian Fallon's recent divorce. Menzingers are more about storytelling and recounting their stories. They're less abstract or referential, and more narrative driven and IMO eloquent.

  43. Portlandia is so weird to watch when you live right next to Portland. Like... it's accurate, but that makes it annoying to watch because it's too close to real life. lol

I don't care what you say no, I don't care what you do. I'm going to the Darkside with you. vs My best-laid plans Will build and break your heart Her guilty hands Tear my whole world apart My mind keeps racing She's softly dreaming I'm scraped and sober But there's no one listening
