  1. I never understood why we act like money and art are mutually exclusive ... not that you're saying it or anything but your comment put this thought in my head. It's weird that we pretend making a good living somehow lessens musical integrity. You don't really see that mentality in any other form of entertainment. It's bizarre.

  2. If I remember right there were tons of posts wondering where Matt was when they were posting studio pics with random songwriting teams and no Matt during the Nine era. It's definitely a common theme in the past 5 years, not just because they're confined to their houses. I don't know if that makes any difference though, I think he's just as much of a part of the band now as he's always been.

  4. to the bold that literally happened on neighbourhoods. This isn't new. Tom didn't touch Hearts All Gone. It's not something that has just happened for the first time now with Matt. So again if you want to imply Skiba isn't an equal member of the band because of that reason then you gotta say the same about Tom. Fair is fair. Mark obviously just wants to write and release music as blink-182 and has changed his opinions on what recording/writing needs to be to be blink-182. I mean fuck wasn't that interview like 15 years ago? A fuck ton can change in that time. It has for me and i'm sure it has for you too. Why can't it for Mark too? I think finally not taking Tom's shit anymore and accepting his resignation/kicking him out and replacing him with Skiba was ballsy as fuck and not something a spineless worm would do.

  5. Who'd have thunk it that three people online practically convinced a whole fanbase to buy some obscure Marshall JCM 800 copy to realize how amazing it is. lol

  7. I believe that was a joke about Tom wanting to have time off.

  8. He better be cool with the repercussions of that

  9. To be honest I don't even think any of those riffs have anything to DO with Skiba, except for when he's attempting to play them live.

  11. Love how we just skip over the GLOBAL PANDEMIC part. If all were normal, they’d all be at Feldy’s studio having a blast. Nothing to see here, move along.

  12. It's a shame Tom couldn't put more effort into Blink, but at the end of the day, if Sugababes can continue with no original members then Blink can continue with just Mark. Blink-182 = Sugababes.

  14. If there’s anything I’ve learned about this forum, it is that it’s very astute at spotting any dysfunction with this band over its history. They don’t really try to hide it. Not the crazy conspiracy stuff, just the general dysfunction. People argue no it’s fine you can’t assume that, and then it comes out two years later in a tell all that everything we assumed was right, and it’s like yea it was pretty damn obvious. Just add up all the evidence. I don’t really care if Matt’s involved, I’m perfectly content with just Mark and Travis making music and know blinks sound. I also like getting the black rain moments. But people are really lying to themselves if they think Matt is a lot more than someone that contributes an idea here and there in this band.

  16. Being on the East Coast in a smaller city, Dude Ranch was unknown so it took Enema for me to feel that.

  17. totally. i disliked it at the time, mostly due to the video which repositioned the image of the band and dramatically shifted blink's audience. but, ironically, it has aged well. just lacks the teeth of some of my favorite enema tracks, like "dysentary gary" or "wendy clear."

  18. The only thing I haven't been able to emulate exactly with it is a Mesa Rectifier. We should probably stop praising it so much before every blink fan buys one. That or Ampeg should bring them back.

  19. yup. here's a great review on reddit which sums it up, really: "...it was based off of the JCM800 design, but more of everything - knobs, gain, features. The two killer features are the built in attenuator and the 5-position mid-frequency knob. The attenuator worked as well as you could hope; great tone at any volume. And the mid-voice adjustment completely changed the character and tone of the amp. I like trying to match my favorite recorded tones and I always found it with this amp."

  20. I got mine for $250 from a Music Go Round. I saw one on Facebook a couple months ago locally to me for $400 but the guy changed his mind and decided to keep it. I was going to get it just to have another.

  24. So you're saying they wanted to collaborate with matt but he just can't afford an audio interface and headphones so they have to leave him out... Yup, makes sense.... If they wanted to start writing songs together with matt, they could.

  25. Tom says in the comments that this song is Box Car Racer 2.0. I don’t really hear that but I do like what I hear!

  26. He definitely did overplay things on Neighborhoods. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. DED was better though In my opinion the album he had the best playing on if we're talking about drum arrangement was TOYPAJ.

  27. The frequency knob is an additional mid control, yes. It's all tube if I remember correctly. There's a schematic in the owner's manual. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://ampeg.com/support/files/Discontinued%20User%20Manuals/VL-502,%201002/VL502_1002_OM.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjk2bKbsr3qAhUKhXIEHcn_Bt0QFjACegQIARAC&usg=AOvVaw2JlABvTjAQAZkJOzsvlEZc

  29. "We told him if we were going to record the album separately, in different studios, our band was ceasing to be a BAND. The magic in the studio is created when the three of us are there TOGETHER, working on parts, discussing, sometimes arguing, all pushing the album forward" - Mark Hoppus, biggest hypocrite in blink history ...oooooor skiba is just not seen as an equal member

  30. Yeah I meant before Tom left. I have no interest what so ever hearing skiba doing any Tom lead song, would rather then focusing on Mark heavy songs along with the new stuff. I agree to some degree about the bass lines. They became more and more generic as the years went by

  35. They're really well known around here (I'm from close to where they originated). It's a real ear catcher how different they sounded when Scott Golley replaced Dave Wagenschutz on drums before they did Hello Bastards. And I agree, they really did perfect the lighter side of hardcore! Plus a lot of people don't know that Wagenschutz went on to play with Good Riddance after Sean Sellers left, and after Kid Dynamite broke up. KD's first tour was with Good Riddance in 1999, when Operation Phoenix came out.

  36. the state i was in at the time is partially reopened but does require masks in public at all times and proper distancing. and i've got to say, being at a brewery beer garden in the shade on a hot day with only a handful of parties sitting yards apart was heaven.

  40. yes, that's the house of his friend Danny Lohner, ex-guitarist of Nine Inch Nails

  41. Hate to be a Kansasbot, but that was not Matt's house in HISALP. It was a friend's pretty sure they said.

  42. He also said there’s “something special that comes with this album that he can’t say and it’s the most ambitious thing I’ve ever done”...Lord I hope Ilan talks him out of tying this to another movie. (Which was the original plan.)

  43. I’m not surprised at all that Skiba wouldn’t have a studio at his place, I’d actually be surprised if the dude has WiFi. I’m not sure about the song “Quarantine”, but as for the other 3-4 songs - it’s just Mark coming up with ideas and sending them to Travis to play with. He’s not gonna wait until they’re all around a campfire to demo stuff. We’re in a global pandemic, it’s not that big of a deal IMHO. As he said, Matt hasn’t gotten to them “yet”. During Cali/NINE they were all in the studio a ton together, something that cannot be said about Tom and blink since 2003. Also, writing separately isn’t new to blink or even Alk3, there are always gonna be “Mark” songs, “Dan” songs, etc. that have minimal influence from Matt.

  44. There is a *very* important part left out of this: Has Matt been involved with the new blink songs? Mark: ”No. Not so far. Matt doesn’t have a studio at his house. Travis and I do, and we’ve been social distancing. He went to be with his family for a bit. There’s no reason why, he just hasn’t been thus far.”

  45. I genuinely forgot that song exists.

  46. the fact that Tom has repeatedly said "he could come back whenever he wants" and he hasn't come back in five years makes me very happy that the band continued without him. I mean he's apparently "comitted" to AVA right now and it's still taking him years to release an album.
