  1. My impressions after watching a several of these pro-shot videos: All things considered, this is the most professional they've ever looked/sounded/acted on stage. You can just feel the happiness and comfort and authenticity oozing (ejaculating?) out of all of them. They're fully taking it seriously and having the time of their lives doing it. It seems like they're embracing and enjoying every aspect of the Blink experience for the first time since like, the Enema days!? For that reason, I understand using backing tracks 100%. It's not just to "make it sound like the album," it genuinely makes the experience more magical for the audience to have such a full lush sound. With these guys (especially Tom) you're always going to get plenty of variation and ad-libs and spontaneity to make it feel live. Like Travis said in that Rick Rubin podcast, they just love being a 3 piece and this allows them to remain a 3 piece while still giving the crowds the type of experience they deserve. HAVING SAID THAT, the backing tracks do go too far at times... I get having synths, strings, keys, some guitar layers, some extra background vox, but it becomes distracting and weird when Mark is roaming around the stage during the chorus of Anthem 3 while his co-lead vocals are playing, or Tom is stepping back from the mic to let everyone yell "OLE OLE OLE" but then you can still hear a vocal track go "YEAH" It's very obvious that they are legitimately singing and playing live throughout the show (sorry Diddy), but I feel like those parts of the backing tracks are unnecessary and kinda cheap. Anyway, that shit doesn't diminish the experience at all for me, just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. I just feel so happy that this is the thing to over analyze right now instead of a sullen Tom drunkenly yodeling with a short-billed hat pulled over his eyes, or any of the other depressing versions of Blink we've endured over the years. We're lucky! Soak it in, people!

  2. They’re not technically wrong, so fuck you.

  3. How can CAROUSEL be mid? It's still one of their best songs. It has everything. Best bass line of all time, no rhymes and yet it still works flawlessly, the angst, the nostalgia, that very unique Cheshire Cat vocal delivery from Tom, still relatable at 34 as it was at 14. Bring it back please.

  4. Dissing Carousel… jesus H, fuck off Jan

  5. Carousel is iconic and there’s no way they’re too old to play it. If that was true then they’re too old to play half their set.

  6. Haha that's funny. I think the board probably would've deserved that reputation during the Non-Tom Era but not at all anymore. I do think that most of us are longtime fans though, which means we've already had most of the fluffy conversations that you see on Reddit sometimes. People here scoff at things like "what's your favorite Blink riff???" not because it's stupid or we hate the band, but because we had those types of convos in like 2003. And yeah for me, like @Paparazzi Magnet just said, Blink has been such a huge part of my life for so long that it is like rooting for a sports team. When I criticize it's out of love and a desire for them to be the best they can be hahah

  7. Carousel might be a top 10 blink song. Entire discography. Thinking it’s mid is just wrong.

  8. Have you watched the pro shots from South America? I’m not saying they don’t use backtracks. I’m saying Tom’s guitar is clearly in front of the mix. or do you think they purposely record sloppy backing tracks with tons of wrong notes?!

  9. I apologize to the board for attempting to discuss the fucking backing tracks in a nuanced way. God dammit.

  10. How can you think carousel is mid and call yourself a blink fan? Just doesn’t work.

  11. Here's Tom crying at the end of it.

  12. Someone on the blink Reddit asked if there was any other online blink group or forums. Someone replied and said we are a bunch of old heads who hate the band and hate each other lmao

  13. I can’t believe Tom Delonge fans are dismissing a band because of rough vocals.

  14. Yeah I criticize blink the way a coach criticizes his own son on the team. Comes from a place of love and having higher standards.

  15. Exactly. You can hear Tom’s sloppy live guitar playing everywhere on those shows haha

  16. It's like a cornerstone song for the band. One of the first songs you hear after "getting into" the band that seals the deal

  17. these SA shows have just reinforced how much I love More Than You Know. So fucking good.

  18. I really think we need to circle back to Jan not liking Carousel. I just read through 10 pages and I can't stop thinking about that. Like if you don't like that song, why do you like this band. Unbelievable.

  21. I just finished watching their show in Colombia! It was great and Tom plays his guitar on all the songs! Wendy Clear and DWM are still the best part of the setlist and the way the Colombia festival crowd gets even louder on the deep cuts almost made me emotional. Now I know why Tom cried the other night 😂 (I still haven’t watched the cometoBrazil show though) - in South America you’ll never get the blank stares on old songs Mark is so afraid of.

  22. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7eX9t2bItc Last night's show (some songs missing). So fucking tight that we suddenly have all these pro shot shows! They sound so good! Tom was really feelin hyper haha. Diddy and other purists might dig this one because Tom's actual guitar is front and center in the mix. Can't really hear the backing tracks very much. EDIT: holy fucking shit Anthem Pt 3

  23. That is an all-time bad take Jan. Gotta find a way to walk it back or this will become your entire identity here

  24. The only thing that’s missing from an otherwise perfect reunion tour is really Carousel.

  25. Up All Night got a HUGE reaction at my show and I really didn't expect it, but it probably won't leave the setlist because it's the only Neighbourhoods song they play now. Down and Violence should go. Down in particular. I know they keep Violence because of the drum solo and Violence has been one on my favorite songs for years, but it's been on the setlist nonstop since 2003 and I got tired of it. It should be retired for a bit and in the meantime Travis can do a drum solo on a different song. Asthenia and Easy Target sounded incredible live in 2014, they should take the place of Violence and Down. Or just bring back Carousel and add a Dude Ranch song.

  28. I believe that Josie, Carousel, Wishing Well, Untitled, Pathetic, Asthenia, Mutt and M&Ms are all songs that they should play live once in a while. I'd be curious to hear Every Time I Look For You too now that they use backing tracks.

  32. Blink doesn’t use backing tracks to mask mistakes, they use it to add depth and fill sound in giant arenas. Enough of this discussion already.

  33. I still maintain Dammit would be a great opener. It’s a hill I’ll die on.

  34. I've said this before but OMT would be perfect if it was the first song of the encore, followed by Dammit to close it out.

  35. WOW. just finally got a chance to watch the brazil performance, and it's by the best pro-shot concert footage we've ever received. incredible direction and drone footage, great shots of the audience, perfect sound mix... everything about it is top-tier! an incredible document of one of the most anticipated shows in band history. "come to brazil" finally comes through. as for the show, it's a tour de force, a perfect snapshot of this band at this juncture. the set's really great, too -- the current band canon is so perfectly suited and stadium-ready that if the band keeps playing well enough, they could do this forever. as said elsewhere, tom is always hit or miss, but inimitable in his confusing distinctive snarl. he's so great on guitar lately, adding little tiny variations on songs like rock show, the discordant riffage on the violence drum solo. clearly having more fun on his instrument and more proficient than ever before. mark sounds so great, his voice stronger than in years before. travis remains the heart and soul -- impossible to do without him. love this band! some other observations: it bears repeating that getting wendy clear as the fourth song of the set is a true gift (hilarious there's no visuals on the screens for the song, but the crowd responds rapturously all the same). i'm over violence, for sure, but people love it, and it's so much fun for the band to play, why not? same with UAN, they sort of fit well together. i really hate UAN, but i recall it being well-received at my show last summer. the sign language interpreter just banging his head through a few songs lmao the reckless abandon and aliens exist audience singalong, wow! DWM is truly the perfect blink song. it needs to be the standard at every show honestly. i really love it. the ole ole ole meltdown has subsided. it's a classic entry into the canon. fans love it, the audience digs it. a soccer anthem tom really holds that note at the end of STFTK, a really welcome add back into the set and one he truly gives his all on. he sounds great on anthem pt 3 too i feel like we haven't talked enough how cool it is that tom has championed skiba-era songs like bored to death (and cynical on the last tour). not many bands like this have members embrace the material that was written without them. he's truly been complimentary, strutting across the stage embracing the whoah-ohs, and it's just crazy to see. always is one of my favorite blink songs and its reaction from the crowd just upon hearing the synth intro should be a wake-up call to the band, who've frequently discarded it as a lesser hit. it needs a permanent spot in the set, and it works great with the lasers! one of the things so frequently misunderstood about this band is the puerile dialogue, which was truly moronic in its heyday but has taken on a newer amusing tone today. it's obvious they're aware of what they sound like. to that end the band feels like a parody of what you think they are -- are you offended by nonsensical diarrhea of the mouth? here's some more. we're aware we're 50 year old men saying dumb shit onstage. why not? "work sucks" becoming an exultant crowd cry in the age of burnout is a testament to the band's power i've really come to like OMT as a show-closer. it adds a layer of depth to the show and what comes before it.
