  1. as long as your careful there should be no chance of ruining it. as long as you love your kit your going to take take of it. now that i think of it, there really wasnt anything i did that could have done any major damage anyways, its a pretty simple process. and about sanding, its not the only way to do it, i just found it best. working it with goo-gone and a a scrubby brush of some kind would also do. although if you fuck up the painting its a little work to fix, being that its oil based, but not impossible.
  2. yea my kit was outta commission for a good month and i worked a lot on them. that sounds like sweet colors man, but for the lugs you most definantly need special paint, because its metal and even with real good paint it might chip where you do rim shots and whatnot. its a challenge, but it was worth it in the end, i take a lot of pride in the work i did.
  3. i just posted a few pics in the topic about painting your kit to help rickay out, but those arent totally accurate now, ill have to wait until i get back to university before i can take a few more. upload them using www.imageshack.com
  4. i painted mine this summer. i stripped off the plastic wrap, which left 2 rings of glue on the wood that were very hard to get off. i had to sand for about week or 2 until all of it was gone, then i smoothed out any nicks i had made from getting the glue off. I used oil based paint, but when you go to buy it, tell the person at the store what you doing so they can suggest things, like if your putting on another oil color on top. i put 2 white stripes on each of the kit and the lady at the store advised me to buy a shiney black oil for the base and a matte finish white so it would stand out more. took about 3 coats of paint of the black then about 4 for the white because not only was it oil paint on oil paint, but it was white on black. then i just waited until they dryed, then i re-attached all the screws and lugs. here are some pics of the final look:
  5. i think they should have postponed the tour just cause its obvious he cant play his best even though he can play. i hope his arm is better now though
  6. i bet i love old dying men more than you do.
  7. 12 inches? nice man. i wish i could grow mine more but i have this super good job that pays 3000 for 10 days once a year and they make me cut it off each time that year so i can only grow a 7-8 inch one. and yea that guy sucks at doing his. can you just put a hat on or something thats what i do at my job but my job pays shit lol unfortunatly no, this place i work at is so classy even celebs go there. we have a strict style code that even only allows for natural colored hair, thats how rediculous they are.

  9. most of the things people attribute with travis didnt start with him. being a travis wannabe is more like being a wannabe of travis's influences. i wish i knew that language the song doesnt sound bad!
  10. also most people i doubt have accounts at yousendit, well i dont anyways so i cant download that. i assume most dont but i might be wrong.
  11. that's awesome man i have one of those. is it brilliant finish? also i got $30 to columbus percussion so i'm buying all new heads tomorrow brilliant finish can't get any better than that. i didnt mention before but i did get one of those purcussion maraca like thing made with seeds tied together on the outside of a seed with a naturally formed handle made in south america. its pretty sweet.
  12. i got money which will be used for new cymbals if that counts. nice gifts you guys got!!! especially the 21" those are up there among my favorties
  13. the beaters on my double pedal always come back and hit my shins and i cant quite figure out what im doing wrong. good thing i dont need to sue that technique a lot, but i wish i could do it better. the pedals are gibraltar. anyone else have these pedals and the same problem?
  14. i havent played on one myself but i do know that the company is VERY good. got yourself a keeper for a while. i think. someone else?
  15. Haha, thats good man. Its totally true that no cymbal will last forever, it's just that I'm a major cheap ass and the last thing i want to do is replace a cymbal so I be uber careful. I get what your saying man, to each their own I guess. To drummer_420: I always strike the cymbal with the shoulder of the stick, to produce a fuller sound, so I never really noticed. Plus, since my B8's don't exacty have a large range of different tones, it makes it even less noticable. ok i see where your coming from, B8's are very stubborn cymbals in my experience
  16. Well then isn't that saying something about you instead? Im sorry im not trying to continue the debate
  17. Wow, your technique must be horrible...I know people who have been gigging frequently and had some of the same Sabians for the past 5-10 years. They play all sorts of music...rock, funk, jazz, country, folk, metal, alternative. He's one of those drummers that is inspired by everyone/everything. He's 32 and a music teacher and so amazing at drums. I've heard that Sabians hold up a lot better than zildjians. Also, if your cracking cymbals, I believe Meinl offers a 2 year warranty on every cymbal they make. Ps. It's horrible that you stole such a great quality cymbal from someone. a highschool, not someone. i dont want to get into the major details to convince you but the kit was pretty much about to be replaced so i grabbed what i could . if i had asked it would have been mine as well. And technique only has a little bit to do with the life span of a cymbal. if your as hard banging as travis, then there is no way a thin cymbal like that is gonna last more than a few months. and the AAXplosion is a VERY thin crash. I busted my zildjian ZXT high hat just because i play it so hard now, and i had that for WAY less time than the AAXplosion. Types of sticks are a major factor as well so dont be swinging around such loosely based assumptions there buddy. liamrichybto, how long did you have the cymbal and are you a hard player? Actually, a technique DOES have a lot to do with the life spand. If you play with a sweeping motion, and not hitting the edge, the cymbal will last a lot longher as if you hit it with a direct downward stroke or playing the edge. Know your facts before you try to prove someone wrong. Although, I do agree that the harder you hit, the shorter the life of the cymbal will be, thats pretty much common sence. There's also how much you tighten the wingnut and weither or not you use cymbal sleeves and how the cymbal is angled. Don't forget that that cymbal may be older than you think, and may have been treated poorly while in school. Also, I was under the assumption that aaxplosion crashes are medium weight...am I mistaken about that? I did say that technique was a factor. I was listing other factors because you jumped to say that his technique was horrible, when in fact the cymbals are extremely thin and he also said it lived a good 2 years AND he's a heavy hitter. and constantly playing with a sweeping motion may not always be best for a certain desired sound. My cymbal was probably a good 3 years old if i assume it was bought the same time as the kit. and i picked it off the school about 2 years ago so thats 5 years to my knowledge.
  18. nice choice. im giving some serious thought to rides as crashes as this is the first im hearing of that but it makes a lot of sense.

  20. My AAXplosion cracked too! but i have a little chunk out of it now. Good thing i stole it from the my high school instead of paying whatever hundreds for it.

there is one for lost as well. Thats cool how they do that.
  22. yes thats bullshit. its just the heel toe. its most def not worth any money there are so many videos out there that will tell you. If this WAS some revolutionary technique it woudnt still be a secret.
  23. and all that aside, you'd think he'd need it to change toms fills now that he only has one arm

    suggestions

im pretty sure travis has been using the same sizes for a while with a few different set ups but i havent memorized each one but i pretty sure.
  25. dude i dont think he does. personally i think its best to always have a double bass even when you never play it. i have one and i barley use it. i keep it around for when the right beater decides to fuck up or get caught somewhere then i just use the other foot til i solve the problem. and also i found its iritating for my feet to only have 2 pedals, my left foot likes to wander when its not being used to help me balance.
