  2. Saw them at the Roxian Theatre in Pittsburgh right before the pandemic shut everything down. Justin’s one of my favorite lyricists ever. He even replied to a couple comments and DMs of mine. MCS is legendary. I’m so glad they’re making another album. I heard from r/MotionCitySoundtrack that they have a new song being featured at the end credits of some film called Dìdi, which debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
  3. It’s a toss up between Turpentine and MTYK for me but Turp’s bridge is objectively the best on the album IMO.
  4. I think I prefer CMO out of the two. Nothing much to say other than that it’s a catchy and fun. It definitely sounds like a NINE outtake or something from a session after. Any possibility they took a song from the scrapped NINE follow-up and got Tom to redo guitar parts? The lyrics sound like something from whatever Gen Z artist of the week Travis collabs with. I will say Tom can pull it off better than Matt “Dark Lord” Skiba. I swear some of the lyrics Matt would sing in blink-182 just remind me of that episode where SpongeBob tries to be normal lol. Speaking of lyrics, you can tell See You definitely came from Tom. You even got the classic “Witching hour” line lol. Sounds like an early-AVA style song but blinkified. Can’t really say much about this one either but I’m warming up to it. I really like the verses but I’m not sure on the chorus yet. Whole song vaguely reminds me of Feeling This, like the chorus melody randomly sneaks in to the synth riff and this chorus as well. It doesn’t sound straight up like Feeling This, but it reminds me of the melody, or at least the vibe of it. Both songs are alright but I see why they were left off the album, could’ve replaced maybe Hurt or the short songs but they still feel like their own thing. CMO would’ve been a solid single tho.

  7. 23. I got into the band around 2012-13. Heard the hits here and there but I think I was recommend the band by some Simple Plan fan account I’ve followed on Instagram. First song I checked out was Asthenia and fell in love (no pun intended). Definitely got shit for liking them in HS lol. I think I found this site in 2014 and got invested in the discussion that Tom has checked out and should either leave or get kicked out of the band. I don’t remember all of it, but I think it started off from an Oliver conspiracy, to which he ended up being right and everyone went nuts lmao. Like I mentioned in another thread, I was technically a fan before Skiba but his time in the band was what I grew up with, so getting to experience authentic Tom for the first time is certainly something else. I’m enjoying it so far lol. Now who’s the kid that also voted in the 25 and under club?

  9. This song ain’t that bad now that I think of it. Pretty cool actually. I totally got what Tom was trying to do with AVA once this edible kicked in.
  10. I love Mark’s verse in this song. The way the vocal melody meshes with the beat sounds so addicting that I wish Turpentine had more of it. Mark may not be as prominent as Tom on this record, but almost all of his parts have been a highlight for me.

Looking back at the Skiba era compared to what we have now, you almost wondered why they even continued the band in the first place, but back in 2015, wholeheartedly supported Mark’s decision to move on without Tom. He sucked. It was letdown after letdown with broken promises, album delays, shitty performances, and pretentious comments trashing blink from him. I got into the band in 2012-13, so everyone else here can explain better on how frustrating it was the last reunion. It’s not Tom’s fault for growing out of the band or attempting to juggle various things, but he should’ve at least been honest with his bandmates. I think they all have communication issues, to be fair. There were a LOT of things that should’ve been done differently during the Skiba era, but I still look back at it fondly. It’s technically the blink I grew up with in HS, which is hilarious to drop here (hence the name). Despite all my concerns with the production so far, the songwriting is there, and shows just how crucial it is to have Tom in the band. I was skeptical at first but I think that interview cemented how genuine this reunion actually is. I’d say I’ll always take Matt over a checked-out Tom, but if that were to happen again, it would be best if the band sails off into the sunset.

It didn’t really help matters when the release date kept getting delayed, so I believed they launched a 20th anniversary Enema tour instead, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that made more casual or older fans OOTL wonder where the hell Tom was. On top of that, they took the risk of co-headlining(?) with Lil’ Wayne, which didn’t go well as fans HATED the WMAA? remix, and I think Lil’ Wayne bailed on a couple shows. Once they finally started the rollout for NINE, they picked the weakest songs from that album to be the singles. I love NINE, but I about gave up on it until I checked out the deep cuts. I came around to the singles but they were a bad representation of the album. I know they were trying to reel in that pop crowd with songs like IRWIHY (which could’ve been bigger with Miley Cyrus) but I think it just pissed everyone off. BIOMY was cliche, Happy Days was boring, Generational Divide was too short, and Darkside was decent until the music video came out, which put the nail in the coffin (I personally don’t care but it seemed to scar some blink fans lol). They could’ve gone with Darkside as a safe lead single, release PTG or NHTSO for the diehards, and still choose IRWIHY for the experimental pop collab. I think they’ve would’ve been able to appease most fans while still appealing to potential new listeners. I will bet that the only thing casuals will remember from NINE are kids doing Fortnite dances. Oh yeah, once NINE released they only bothered to play the singles live, if at all. And it’s not like they were gonna tour in 2020 lol.
  13. Would be criminal to not make this a post-release single, song is stupid catchy. Giving off AVA vibes with a dash of Simple Creatures, maybe? Well, it’s more blink goes New Wave (again). Those synths remind me of lot of Rebel Girl lol.
  14. Ok that must be why I thought it was gonna be about Mark’s cancer. I mean it seems like an easy assumption to make when it was revealed to be a Mark-only song. Only other thing I speculated it (before it released) could be about was when Mark got the (bad) news that Tom. Was. Out. (again)….IDK. Doesn’t matter. It’s neither of those. I was wondering…didn’t someone on here make a post about an interview Travis did with his daughter recently and when he brought up this song, Alabama wanted to move on and not talk about it?   15. This is a weird one, I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. I don’t like the “autotune” on Tom’s voice in the chorus, but I think it’s supposed to go with this whole experimental, electronic-rock, arcade-y(?) vibe they got going on here. I will say that I think the synth outro is pretty cool and gives off some Postal Service & Motion City Soundtrack vibes.

  18. I was trying to make sense of the line when I first heard it, thought it was about Tom for a second but he’s stage left. I wasn’t paying much attention to lyrics as I was trying to take everything in on my first listen, but then realized it was about Robert once I heard the following line, and fuck I forgot he passed away. I’m glad Mark paid tribute to him with this cute little song. I always loved seeing his and the other tech’s posts about the band during the Skiba era. I’d always save my favorite shots of his to my iPad lol. It would’ve been wonderful to have him around for this era.

  20. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t wish any ill-will on our boy or anyone else in the band, but Mark’s best work has always been in response to tragedy. Those verses were everything I’ve been wanting from him for years now. The signature +44 sound with Tom on guitar is *chef’s kiss* The chorus is fine. It’s repetitive but not as annoying as others. I appreciate it more after Jan pointed out the contrast between Mark and Tom’s parts. However, I do wish the bridge was extended. I felt like it ended awkwardly abrupt. Anyways, shoutout to Mark for kicking ass on this one. I was skeptical if he was gonna write about his battle. Seems like an obvious choice, but didn’t know if he just wanted to move on from it completely and only address it briefly, if at all. Didn’t someone mention that Bad News was a solo Mark song?
  21. Yeah that’s why I mentioned Apple Music. Will probably just rewatch it on YouTube when I get home. I’ve been trying to avoid discussion on this until I’ve finished it so thanks for the heads up.
  22. Haven’t finished it yet but does anybody wish it was just a single video? Got lost twice on Apple Music because I had it on shuffle the entire time 🤦🏻.
