He literally shattered his ankles because he was drunk and jumped off a balcony. That’s where the “stood up on the ledge, begged you to come down” line in Man Overboard came from. He had to record Dude Ranch with broken ankles which im sure caused some hiccups. He also missed several shows. He may have not been a text book alcholic but it was clearly getting in the way of their ambition for the band

He was an alcoholic who didn’t have the same passion as they did for the band and was missing shows due to his behavior and actions. They ran into Travis who was clearly a much better drummer as well as better fit for the band and their image. It really isn’t that complicated or hard to understand bro
