It’s weird because when I was actually “living” what felt like the blink life in high school First Date was one of my favorite songs. Not sure if it didn’t age well or if I just aged out of that one

I’d like to see it replaced but understand why they keep playing it

Yea exactly. I’m not mad about it. I’ll belt the words out if they’re playing it at the show, but I wouldn’t be mad if they replaced it either lol

Watching the Chile show on YouTube surprised he doesn't butcher First Date. That whole last stretch of songs sounds great with the audience singing along

If they’re going to keep First Date in the setlis, I see nothing wrong with butchering it. That’s better than pretending he likes it when we know he doesn’t. The video is A-1 but the song itself is mid.

    How bout that Taylor Swift?

I don’t even dislike Taylor Swift. Especially now that the Trumptards hate her, she’s a good one to have on your side lol. She’s just a convenient example to use for an overexposed mainstream artist.

The backing tracks make them sound better- 100% do not care

The BAGBABABABAABAHABA thing only becomes a problem if he continuously does it. As an honest mistake in the moment that he tries to make funny, I enjoy.. I laughed. If it starts happening all the time, on the same songs, that's when it crosses the line.

The dude ruined First Date for me for years because of his complete lack of respect for it. Like if the person who wrote it thinks it's too dumb to be worth trying on live in front of paying people, how can I enjoy it with a straight face live?

The clips from these shows sound great that I've seen. I'm not alarmed by anything. Pumped to see them this summer

So you’re like the opposite of me. I personally will take sloppy guitar and vocals over backing tracks to make them sound more like the album. That’s not authentic. I could care less about Tom gargling the words because it’s real.  So I don’t agree with your opinion but I respect it. All is well. Go hug your neighbor!

chill the fuckkk out and have a good time

Oh dude I’m chill. I’m not saying people shouldn’t enjoy the shows because of it. I still want everyone to go support them and vibe out at the shows too. I will still be. Doesn’t mean I have to love the use of backing tracks. I can still have my opinion on it. Nobody needs to be a recording and touring artist to understand the concept. Really not sure what Speedo doesn’t think I understand. I’ve been well aware of the use of layered guitars in their recordings since I was a teenager. I’m well aware of the different guitar tracks 1, 2, 3, etc and how each one is even layered individually. I know blink has done that since at least Dude Ranch. I’m also well aware of how Tom would used to perform and which guitar tracks he would decide to perform and which ones he wouldn’t, at which points in which songs. It’s not a hard concept to understand. Tom’s live rig sounded amazing and better than it does now back when he used 3 large amps. It didn’t need “padding.” At the end of the day I’m just glad they’re back together, but it’s dumb to say nobody has the right to criticize anything they do.

These are blink 182 songs dude..at arenas.  In their late 40s/50s.

    Not Eruption prime EVH.

I'd be more disappointed if they were trying to be cool and only going solo channel or w.e and trying to prove some point at this stage.

    Let. it. go.

EVH didn’t play arena shows in his 50s without backing tracks? Or how do you define “Eruption prime EVH”?

The problem is you’re making accusations and commenting on things you don’t understand the purpose of, not to mention it’s just an odd thing to single out and pretend it makes a difference. It’s not a club show, the sound needs to be padded.

Na. Hard disagree. I understand all of this shit. You don’t need to record or perform live to understand any of this or what’s going on. Also, it’s not weird to think it’s lame to not actually play the guitar coming from the speakers when you’re on stage with a guitar. Not liking it doesn’t equate to not understanding it. What’s weird is how bands ever existed and played arenas before backing tracks existed. Its weird how a lot of bands still do it. Almost like you had to be able to play the songs you create in the studio to get respect. Or, certain bands just didn’t play certain songs if it wasn’t realistic in a live setting. Eddie Van Halen didn’t use backing tracks. And im Not referring to him as an example of that Tom should Be able to play like EVH. It’s a one guitarist rock band that sounded bad ass live playing arenas without the use of backing tracks. Go figure, it is possible!

I’ve never seen people be purists about shit they don’t do and aren’t involved in, it’s weird, guys.

No, it’s not weird. No different than sports fans critiquing their favorite team. Recording some songs doesn’t make your opinion any more valid than someone else’s.

I live in S.A. and as far a Im concerned they are mostly killing it, real blink fans are pleased and it's totally a dream come true, some points id add:

    1. Travis is a Drum God, he carries the band and by himself is the hightlight of the festivals

    2. Audience (except for Perú) is mixed between casual fans and blink ones

    3. Many casual fans are ranking Offspring as a better band (Pop Dissaster type of comments, "Offspring should have close" blah blah

    4. Tom has been hit or miss with his voice, although at Chile was better

    5. Some casual fans are offended by the jokes, no big deal

    6. Setlist could be better. Casual fans dont know any new song. Adding a few songs like Adams Song, Man Overboard, Josie, Always would had been awesome

Casual fans? Why do you say that? Because they don’t agree with you? Or Maybe they’re just more so fans of real rock n roll and bands playing what you hear coming through the speakers when they pay big $ for a live performance? Perhaps they just don’t have their blink-182 blinders on like we all would have, and think Offspring sounded better live ?

That one really struck a nerve had to go back and react late huh?

Sorry 18 year old Tom did not decide to develop into Yngwie Malmsteen just to satisfy your _tarded standards

I'm sure his 18 yr old self is happier he decided to finally find the right one and get back with blink as he did and enjoy himself instead of impressing those 2 impossible posters.

You don’t have to be Yngwie Malmsteen to not use backing tracks for doing all the guitar work for you. Simp harder. Tom’s still the man. But I’m sick of simps slandering people for having valid criticisms.

Lol 1998.  Yes, great to never evolve as a human.  You know who still bitches about shit like this and says "my 1998 self would be so proud of me today"

    NoFX - Fat Mike.

Yea , people grow and evolve. Tom should have evolved into a better guitarist instead of worse and a lazier performer, I agree. He missed a key opportunity to get better given he gets paid to perform!

Yeah I would love to see that. I’m on the same page as you. I think a lot of it started with Untitled when they started to add all the extra shit to their songs and live shows.

But they are playing the biggest shows they ever have and all the lights and shit are synced up to the backing tracks. It’s a huge production and unfortunately that’s the way a lot of popular music is heading these days. 25 years ago blinks live shows were very minimal when it came to lighting and special effects.

Yea I feel ya. It’s just something I hate seeing from a band I love so much. 1998 Tom would definitely rip on any bands using backing tracks. And saying anyone who calls it out is just “bitching and moaning about nothing” is not fair or accurate.

  13. 14 minutes ago, Dylan_ said:

What’s your solution though? I think the arena shows would suffer if they didn’t have backing tracks. I would prefer them to play smaller venues but that ain’t happening. Do they hire touring musicians to play the extra parts to give it a fuller sound?

Be authentic and do what they did in their prime. They played big shows without it for many years.

orrrr here me out. They could drop all the songs with all the extra shit that Tom can’t actually play and add a bunch of Dude Ranch and Chesire Cat songs back into the mix

Some of y'all will moan about anything.

They've had backing tracks since I got into them in 2013, at least. Tom has always yodelled and had weird pronunciations since then, too. Does it for AVA as well.

It is worse when he's drunk. Hence why 2010 was a mess. I guess stage fright probably got the better of him for a bit with a crowd that size.

Yea but the difference is the amount of backing tracks, and specifically all of the guitar backing tracks. When it gets to the point that Tom isn’t even touching his guitar and yet the guitars are still coming through the speakers, that’s a very valid criticism coming from rock fans. To act like it’s not is just being obtuse and playing mental gymnastics. Again, there was a time when acts got cancelled and laughed off stage for this shit. I’ll never buy into the “everyone’s doing it” excuse either. It’s not even remotely true. Maybe “everyone” that the fans who use this excuse listen to do it, but not every act does it. Such a tired and sorry excuse

This is like a time warp to the early 2000s when blink was having a time and neckbeards metallica fans coming out saying “why don’t they put in more effort?? They’re missing notes? Can they even sing well??”

If you don’t get blink you don’t.

Sorry Diddy, JarJar, I think I may have been misled thinking everyone here gets that.

It’s blink, it’s not this serious Trans Siberian Orchestra performance

You see, the thing is, I agree with you. Which is why using backing tracks is lame and goes against everything you’re trying to say.

blink- the only band with fans that will say “they’re punk rock it’s supposed to be sloppy” and “who cares that they use backing tracks like a boy band, who cares if guitar is coming out of the speakers and Tom isn’t eve strumming the guitar” both at the same time, unironically, smfh,
