I haven't listened to it yet, despite the singles (I fell and went for a quick spin of them in spotify). For what I've heard: yes. So far it sounds like Green Day 101 but in a 'bad' way. It's GD 101 since American Idiot, and more specifically since 21CB, not the classic sound.

As I said in other post, I feel like they just fell flat in an AC/DC sort of approach (and the likes of). I mean, just doing what works in general for the average/casual rock listener and festival attendant. They have spend the last 10 years basically regutgitating the same batch of songs.

I'll listen to the whole thing, though, although my interest for this album just vanished after listening to the songs they've been releasing this past weeks.

Funny though, I saw a review saying this was their best since American Idiot.

EDIT: @bobbo11290 I feel you. I loved this band. In fact, I love their discography until AI. They had something, but somehow lost it... and then I lost interest in the band after listening 21CB, then tryied to reconciliate with them when the trilogy was released (and I still think there are some really good songs there, although execution may distort that feeling). And well, after that, I just listened their new releases once, and absolutely forgot about them. I had hope on this new record, but it looks like it's just the same thing. I'll see.

Pretty much how I lost interest in them. I was never a diehard hardcore fan, but I liked a lot of what they gave us up until AI. I also tried to give the trilogy a fair shake, and liked some parts of it. But even some of the songs I did like, the production/guitar sound was so weak and lifeless imo. On the flip side of the coin, it has billie’s best solos since the 39/smooth and kerplunk eras. Guy has some decent chops for his genre when he wants to go there, I’ll give him that. I don’t think he’s ever been as creative as Tom in terms of doing really memorable catch riffs, but technical ability/actual lead playing wise, he can surprise you. Only brownsound from sum 41 has better lead playing chops in terms of the genre imo. TLDR; credit where credit’s due. And they’re definitely still a tight and fun live band. Creatively though, I think they’re out of juices and I can’t seem them bouncing back from it at this point in their lives/careers.

  2. New album leak. It’s bland bleh. Basically revolution radio. Seems to be their schtick. They’ll do some attention whoring shit like the trilogy and father of all, then release a “safe” diet coke retread of what they’ve done better after falling flat on their face. I’m not kidding when I say almost every song is either a carbon copy of what they’ve done before or a straight up rip off of another artist. Certainly can’t see the lot of us liking it more than OMT even without the obvious presumed bias, and certainly can’t see the general public gravitating to it more either. Doubt it goes to number one. The thing is they’ve/Billie have been on so many podcasts, interviews, a Jimmy Fallon funded schtick subway concert in NYC tonight (airs Thursday for those interested), stern interview tomorrow, working overtime like mother fuckers to promote this thing. Blink did one Zane lowe interview for press and that was it. If GD still can’t hit number one all that considered, maybe they should just embrace their inner dad rock and just stick to being a nostalgic act. Just my two Pennies. Even if you consider 21cb as the last thing they did worth anything more than a fart in the wind, that still means they haven’t done anything noteworthy or relevant in 15 years now. What’s the point if you’re just gonna recycle the same ol tripe, try real hard to sell it, and not really have it deliver on anything? Not to mention they started work on this album almost 3 entire years ago, and it was hyped up to be their next whatever comeback, but imo, it’s basically revolution esque-safe, but not much else to evaluate in terms of new ground. But again, that’s just my pov, and tbf I gave up on this band over a decade ago. Then again, they haven’t done much to make me regret it since 🤷🏻‍♂️

  3. Kinda shocked the albums completely off the billboard 200 after only 3 weeks. I know it dropped from 1–28, but now it’s completely gone. Not great for album sales. And shocked because the singles have done well (one more time even peaked at number 28 on the adult top 40, cracked the top 100, and is still number one on alternative radio), fan and critical reception has been overall pretty great too. Wtf? I didn’t expect it to stay in the top 10-20 long, but completely off already?

How much better is this song/video than 90% of what's out there? Especially pop/punk rock?  The pop-punk kings are back.  I don't care if it's not as good as Enema anymore, we shouldn't be comparing it to that.  How much better is this than everything else?  FIRE

Even the needle drop dude likes this song (or at least was pleasantly surprised) and he has shit on everything blink has done the last 12 years. He didn’t even bother reviewing neighborhoods back when it first came out.

  5. I’m caught off guard with how much I love these songs so far. I was expecting mid edging stuff, but this they’re killing it with the meat and potatoes around it thus far. I still think edging is mid, but surrounded by these bangers so far I think it works a lot better in the mix of what is turning out to be a really solid album. “I was wondering if I can get your number after this. I wanna talk about things privately just between you and I…” at the very end of the video. Tom and his little nuisances still get me 🤣.

  6. And to be fair, Green Day have been recording their album for like over two years, and you can say just as easily they’re “dragging their feet” more than blink has. Same with sun 41. Christ don’t even get me started on being a Guns N’ Roses fan. They’ve been back together for 7 fucking years, only released two new songs two years ago (which aren’t even really new, they were modified songs Axl had for years).

blink’s “delays” are nothing in comparison. And between Coachella and the updates on the album since, it doesn’t at all seem like a neighborhoods situation. Ya never know, but so far so good in comparison. Much more to be optimistic about within the blink world compared to 2009-2014. At least for now.
