  1. Pardon my absense, but the timeline moved to its own web site and did we lose a bunch of data? I swear I contributed some dates I don't see on the web site. Like this... Blink playing 2 nights at SOMA originally scheduled for Oct 24 & 25, 1998 were rescheduled to Nov 21 & 22, 1998 with a different lineup. The timeline shows 1 night from each set of dates which is incorrect.
  2. Because I was like 17 and didn't know how to interview a band. It seemed like I did no prep as was just winging it, and my questions are super generic.
  3. Just unearthed a cassette tape with a cringe (on my part) interview with Tom backstage at Warped Tour San Diego in 1996. I interviewed him, Fat Mike, and O from fluf for my public access TV show turned Internet web site "San Diego Rocks" and I remember Tom's interview almost exactly. Not sure where to upload the mp3 or if it necessitates linking from the timeline, whereever that lives now...
  4. To be fair, I can be an asshole. :/
  5. There's the alternate version of Voyeur that never saw the light of day either. The overall concept of the song is the same but the lyrics and music are different. The untitled one I just described is really a great track. Some parts probably were used in other songs, but I have never really felt a for sure "yeah that's from that untitled track" feeling, which is what Mark makes it seem like. I could be totally wrong on that. Parts feel like some other tracks, but that's true of that era of Blink in general. Most of Tom's little licks sounds similar or have a similar picking style, at least. It's hard to compare the track against the rest as I heard the others so many more times with such better production. Nonetheless, I think the track is great. The song as a whole probably isn't that special, but it's all a build-up to the overlapping Mark & Tom vocals. To me, that's one of the things that made Blink so special. Pathetic is similar in the part where Mark rings out "This is where I belonggggggg...." and Tom sings "I think I'm different..." on top. For me, the unreleased track would at least be middle of the pack. Everyone's got their own tastes, though.
  6. What a great idea! I can absolutely describe it. And I completely disagree with Mark's assessment that the pieces were used in other songs. 00:00 A classic Tom style slow riff starts the song 00:15 Drums and bass are added 00:40 Song speeds up, just drums and bass 00:47 Guitar kicks in with a tasty Tom style riff 00:56 Tom sings the first verse 01:12 Song switches to half time as Tom sings the first chorus 01:20 Song switches back to full speed as Tom sings the second half of the chorus 01:27 Back to the tasty Tom riff from the intro 01:35 Tom sings the second verse 01:51 Tom sings the second chorus 02:07 Song slows back down and it's just bass and drums 02:16 Mark sings a one-line hook repeating with a single guitar added 02:25 Tom sings the first line of the first verse on top of Mark's repetitive hook (my favorite part) 02:33 Overlapping vocals continue but speed increases 02:42 Tom sings the chorus a third time, and the tasty Tom riff comes in over the second half 03:00 End of song
  7. Yeah it's not my property to give out, even leak. As it has become clear I'm the only one left holding the demo, it'd be pretty obvious that it was me leaking it. AND it's against the band's wishes? Yeah, sorry guys.
  8. Sounds like the lyrics to a shitty pop-punk band.
  9. Top quality pics, Davey! lol One of the guys that ran SOMA recently drew up his recollection of the layout:
  10. Dave that did the first Blink site with me... his band opened this show and was trying to find this flyer. Do you have it somewhere? It looks like all of the links to this flyer are broken! EDIT: Dave asked me to share these two pictures from their set opening up for Blink. In the first, you can see Mark and O in the background watching the set. In the second, he says: "why not-- that crowd was there for blink not cpm"
  11. Can't remember if I talked about this interview before or not. I totally remember it, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't from Soda Springs cuz I wasn't at that show. San Diego Warped Tour maybe? And wasn't it like 1995 and not 1997? But whatever. I brought a tape recorder to interview Tom and can't still hear his voice when I read this back. I transcribed it word for word by hand so I listened to that tape over and over again. My interview is terrible, I'm not sure if I even had interview notes, clearly I did not become a journalist. I just did this whole thing to get free tickets & backstage passes to the show from an online contest from warpedtour.com if I remember correctly.
  12. This looks pretty damn close. Though in my memory you walk in and it's the side stage, just a sound board where you have lobby & merch area. Wasn't the merch area in the back where you put back of house?
  13. I think you may have me beat with your memory & recordkeeping. I'm embarrassed to not have all of the detail that you have from each show!
  14. Oh hi! I was just reminiscing about Blink and broke out my old calendar to try to clear a few things up. I overlooked my 1999 calendar, on which October 20 it says "Blink @ Empire." I believe this is the show they filmed for the MTV "The Road Home," which didn't come out until December of 2000? Crazy that the footage was over a year old, but it fits the timeline that this happened in 1999 and is on my calendar, so I'd say this is a pretty sure thing. He also sent me a backstage laminate he saved from a show we went to in 1999 in LA: Will post more if I can think of it
  15. Just say my name 3x and I'll come back, just like Beetlejuice lol. Lockdown is OK. Binging Mad Men since I never saw it. Trying lots of great restaurants through delivery. Otherwise, not much different than real life. How you been?
  16. It was a two day shoot... the first day was the live stuff and I wasn't invited to that. The second day was the movie theatre shoot. I had my wall calendars out when I was going through all this stuff and I'm pretty sure the two days listed on the timeline are correct, 6/7/97 & 6/8/97.
  17. I was just thinking about that today... I took so many photos of bands at that time, I can't believe I didn't bring my camera to the overnight video shoot. I do remember it was 12am call time and I think I finally left at like 6 or 7am when the sun was up and drove home super tired back to San Diego. Totally worth it, though. Wore my Swindle shirt for my extra work since I was a fan of those guys and Blink had a split 7" with them... they were super stoked I did that for them. I remember the original plan was to fill the theatre with fans, but they supposedly forgot to get the word out, so it was me, Anne, and maybe a couple other people in random seats around the theatre. I had to try not to laugh while Blink were acting all crazy in the theatre as I didn't want to ruin a shot. In the lobby, Rick was absolutely hilarious and the story in the book is true, the video was changed on the spot to feature him more. The two models were super quiet and were super out of place but were professionals, even when Mark accidentally tripped the dude. I just remember Darren Doane yelling at everyone to keep running back and forth. It was riduclous. The shot of Scott brushing the spilled popcorn off his head always made me laugh because Tom spilling the popcorn was absolutely not planned or staged.
  18. Thanks, man. Gonna be hard to top as this was my #1 Blink story, and my #2 Blink story was catching the bass. Now I'm just in search of #3...
  19. Yes, it is! According to wikipedia it was started in '95 but lost ground to Google and was sold to Yahoo in '03 where it essentially died.
  20. Make the drive down on Saturday, I'll get you on the list.
  21. You think? For just regular photos?
  22. Just thought of this thread as I got a call out of the blue from Chris Lewis just now offering to put me on the list for this weekend's Pivit reunion show. So yeah, we're still cool. I told him about the stories I've been telling and encouraged him to come on here and tell some of his own, because he named off countless Blink shows that Pivit opened up at, some of which weren't in the full list. It's all good man, I feel the love on this board from almost everyone, I'll tell as many stories as I can think of I could have had a long list of other failed search engines, but had to curb myself at the first two that popped up in my mind.
  23. Does anyone here own an actual scanner and have any interest in scanning in a bunch of these Blink pics? If so, PM me, and I'll let you keep all the originals.
