  1. Go back and check out The Mountain Goats early stuff. A ton of the Folk Punk guys are just aping this first 8 years. (and doing a piss poor job of it for that matter.)
  2. I was at the post office, buying some stamps, thinking that the girl behind the counter was fine. I said "Ya think this'll get there by Friday, man?" She said, "I get off work at quarter-past nine." And what's with the Ted Leo video someone posted above?
  3. This is what I'd do: Wah -> Chorus -> Phase -> Rat -> Muff -> Delay -> Tuner The tough thing with modulation effects like chorus and delay is that if you run gain into them, they can get really harsh sounding and icepicky.
  4. Obviously. I'd replace the red one in my Ampeg with a Purple one (most tones ever.) if it didn't have some insane light system.
  5. Nice! And ya know, the green jewel light adds the MoJo Tonez.
  6. Here's my updated rig: Modded Fender Telecaster (MIM Standard body, MIM Special Neck, Texas Special Bridge pickup, Pickup Wizard Jazzmaster Pickup under the pickguard, Bigsby B5, and 3-saddle tele bridge with cutouts in the back for the strings to pass through) -> Fredric Effects Harmonic Percolator Clone -> Vox Ice 9 Overdrive -> Behringer VD400 Analog Delay -> Behringer UV300 Vibrato -> Boss TU-2 -> 1965 Ampeg Gemini II Amp. The other footswitch there is to turn the trem and reverb on/off on the Ampeg. It sounds absolutely tremendous.
  7. Watch this and tell me if you think he's still a pussy. Openly fucking with his fans. It's hilarious. The dude realizes that he's famous and is using it to have fun and to make fun of the whole celebrity status.
  8. The Mountain Goats - "Get Lonely" is the ultimate break up album in my mind. It's not about getting back or remembering the good, it's just about the immense feeling of loss, depression, and not knowing what to do after it happens. WOKE UP NEW ----------------- On the morning when I woke up without you for the first time, I felt free. And I felt lonely. And I felt scared. And I began to talk to myself almost immediately, Not being used to being the only person there. Hmm The first time I made coffee for just myself, I made too much of it. But I drank it all, Just 'cause you hate it when I let things go to waste. And I wandered through the house, like a little boy lost at the mall. And an astronaut could've seen the hunger in my eyes from space. And I sang oh What do I do? What do I do? What do I do? What do I do without you? On the morning when I woke up without you for the first time, I was cold, so I put on a sweater. And I turned up the heat. And the walls began to close in And I felt so sad and frightened, I practically ran from the living room out into the street. And the wind began to blow and all the trees began to bend. And the world in it's cold way started coming alive. And I stood there like a businessman waiting for a train. And I got ready for the future to arrive. And I sang oh What do I do? What do I do? What do I do? What do I do without you? IN COROLLA ---------------- the day I turned my back on all you people I felt an itching in my thumbs. the salt air like a broadcast from the distant, dark beyond when my transformation comes. I went down to the warm, warm water saw a pelican fly past waved once at the highway and then left all that behind me I went wading through the grass. and no one was gonna come and get me. there wasn't anybody gonna know. even though I leave a trail of burnt things in my wake every single place I go. and it was cool, and it was quiet in the humid marsh down there. i let my head sink down beneath the brackish water, felt it gumming up my hair. the sun was sinking into the atlantic the last time that I turned my back on you. I tried to summon up a little prayer as I went under it was the best that I could do. and I said, "let them all fare better than your servant", the reeds all pricking at my skin. "here's hoping they have better luck than i had down here with them" all that water rushing in.
  9. Lets be fair here. Would YOU want to go to Danbury?
  10. I find it hilarious that you played a show with Stay. The bass player and Drummer are from my town and I've been friends with them for years. It's almost hilarious how much they hate their own band.
  11. The amount of gain that a Muff has is going to add feedback, especially when you're close to an amp, and even more with a semi-hollowbody. Learn how to work with it, mute strings that you aren't playing, or shut off the muff when you're not playing.
  12. Because annoying Williamsburg Hipsters like Hipster Trash.
  13. You don't really believe in less is more, do you?
  14. More professional than mine, that's for sure. I bought a piece of black shelving wood at Home Depot, cut it in half, lined the top with strips of velcro, put rubber feet on the bottom, and two handles on top.
  15. It's not an acrolite, I used to have one. This one is definitely steel, not aluminum, and it doesn't have the same lugs. I'm pretty sure it's just a piece of shit student model Yamaha from the 70's with ludwig strainers.
  16. I have to say, I really got a hell of a deal on this kit. I saw it on Craigslist for $300 and pounced. It's a clear blue vistalite, and I have to say, it sounds fantastic. I spent a few hours today scraping the rust/pitting off of the rims and lugs, then I bought all new heads for it and went to town. All I need for the kit now is a bass drum leg. I have one, but can't find another one, it's the 3/8" sized square rod curved one. Anyways, it's a 1976 Vistalite. It came with 2 9x13" toms, but one of them has a crack in it, so I'm just using the one. The guy also threw in a bunch of old ludwig hardware, two small Yamaha toms, and an old Ludwig snare. I can't tell what the snare is though. It's 8 lugs, seemingly steel (magnets stick to it), and is just plain chrome colored. I think it might just be a cheap student snare..., and he also threw in two (crappy) Nu-Vader cymbals, as well as a great set of late 70's 13" Zildjian Quick Beats. for the info: 9x13 Rack Tom (Clear G2 over Attack 1-Ply) 16x16 Floor Tom (Clear G2 over Attack 1-Ply) 14x22 Bass (EQ4 over EQ4) 5.5 x 14 Pearl Sensitone Brass Snare (Power Center Reverse Dot over Hazy 300) 15" Zildjian Sweet Hats 19" Zildjian A Custom Crash 20" Sabian HHX Stage Ride 20" Dream Bliss Ride (with sizzle chain)
  17. Whenever I see a Black LP I just get the strangest urge to put a ridiculously microphonic firebird pickup in the bridge, a chrome covered P-90 in the neck, and slap a bigsby on it...

Those AC30's sound great, just going to warn you though, the CC's, like you have, tend to run REALLY hot. There have been a ton of reports of those things just lighting on fire or melting the PCB. If I were you, I'd be running a box fan behind it.
  19. dont get it? Dude, I'm into "non-traditional" singers. Craig Finn, Eddie Argos, John Darnielle, and Wayne Coyne are some of my favorites. But this guy just blows.
  20. This is a joke, right? The music sounds like it was written by 12 year olds, and the singer is trying to be clever with his Arctic Monkey's style lyrics, but fails miserably. Who knows, maybe they could get better, but god, if that's getting big in your area I feel terrible for where you're from.
  21. I was at that show the first picture was taken at. I was right infront of that guitarist, front row. The Hold Steady headlined, and for the majority of the Loved Ones set it was absolutely pouring. Insane show.
  22. Your guitar is completely dried out, and the neck is bowed. Put it next to a humidifier for a couple of weeks and it should be good, also the truss rod probably needs adjustment.
  23. Whoever it is, they're using a Freakshow Digilog Delay. I used to have one, and it's a fucking AWESOME delay pedal.

    Basic Amp

Buy it on Craigslist or go to your local Guitar Center. Never EVER buy new guitars/amps. You'll save a ton of cash, and get more for your money. Unless you're rich as fuck...right? ...no.
