Pumped for the OG Star Wars Battlefront remaster coming out in mid March! I hope they don’t milk people on the price tag though, anything over $30 would be stupid.

It’s $35 for the switch, $31.50 on presale

Did people just not like Is This Thing Cursed? That album was amazing to me. Feels like everyone is talking like this is the first good thing they’ve done in a while?

Is This Thing Cursed is quite possibly my favorite album by Alkaline Trio front to back. There's amazing hooks all over it and it was such a solid return to form after the dumpster bin that was everything they put out after Crimson.

I feel like their songwriting bifurcated after From Here to Infirmary when they stopped writing so much about being raging alcoholics with Matt leaning into being "spooky" and Dan's songs being more thoughtful and heartfelt at the expense of being catchy (or fitting with the rest of the Alkaline Trio sound for that matter). For a while Matt was real quantity over quality, but man did they both bring their respective A-games to ITTC; there's maybe like 2 skips on that album for me.

This new one has a few great songs on it (looking at you Teenage Heart) but nothing that grabs at me the way that most of ITTC did.

Those are my thoughts anyway, but YMMV.

Are you from the area? I’m not trying to down talk on San Francisco, I’ve just seen a lot of 49ers fans talk shit on our city just like every team’s fans do. I just know San Fran isn’t even affordable and their homeless and violence problems are worse than Detroit’s currently. I also have nothing but respect for the 49ers team, I’ve always liked the 49ers. You a Niner fan?

Grew up in the bay but not a football fan in the slightest, the niners will never be as good as they were when I was 5, so I don't really see the point.

I just stumbled in here by accident when I was flipping through threads I hadn't read and the Journey thing was the post I landed on.

I think people just shit on Detroit because it's Detroit. It's the New Jersey effect. I'm sure there's good and bad parts of it like any other major metropolitan area, SF included.

However it goes, hope it's an entertaining game today. Enjoy!

Kind of like how the 49ers bailed and got the fuck out of San Francisco? Lol. It’s still funny that their biggest line in their biggest song mentions Detroit. I’d wager that Detroit is a much better place to live than San Francisco too by the way.

Priced out of the city like everyone else.

Why would the 49ers get Journey to perform at halftime for this game, are they stupid?

Because the band is from San Francisco?

And the next line "he took the midnight train going anywhere" sure makes it sound like anywhere is better than being in Detroit.

Still cracks me up that Scott is a cop now lol. Dude's gotta be weird as fuck, how do you not parlay being blink's original drummer into some kind of success elsewhere?

Former drummer still working the beat

you really should watch it and give it a chance, I think you'll be surprised and notice the amount of effort and care they put into it.

they did do all practical effects and then the studio interfered and forced them to do CGI, there are some interesting documentaries on youtube about it.

Yeah I was quite pleased when I saw it in theaters back in the day. The Carpenter version is untouchable but I thought they did a nice job dovetailing the new one in with it.

The original though? With the carrot people? That one's rough...

i feel like they’ve gotten stuck in a vicious cycle of farewell/comeback/anniversary tour. if they wait another year it’s a CTTM 20th tour. why make new music?

Seriously. I saw their farewell tour back in like 2017 and I think they've done 3 or 4 since? They're getting to be like KISS.

Still they put on a hell of a show and I would love a new record (which it sounds like they're working on in fits and starts).

If you don't 'get' Otherside I feel sorry for you.  Only time I can say Mark phoned it in on OMT was Fell In Love, otherwise he brought it all over.  Parts of Neighborhoods and Cali/Nine era yes he phoned it in.

Let me rephrase, I think these songs don’t stand out among the rest of the songs on their respective records, but I don’t think Mark is solely responsible.

In both cases their production lack dynamics; the songs just freight train from start to finish. I enjoy the lyrics in both but they’re the strongest parts of both songs.

The hook in MH# doesn’t catch for me and the chord choices and melody in other side are too sing sing by the book for my taste.

Feel free to have a different opinion though

  10. Like most of you Blink has been my favorite band for like 25 years, but for a long time there, I didn’t really listen to them. Putting on their old albums remind me of being 16. I’m a few years short of 40 now. Listening to those records feels like looking back in time; while good for a nostalgia hit once in a while, there’s nothing new there for me.

One More Time meets me where I am today. It’s not a perfect album (spoiler: none of them were) but even so, it’s the perfect album for me right now and for that I’m incredibly grateful.
