+44 - When Your Heart Stops Beating

(Interscope/Universal)

Sometimes you hear a record and you just don't know what to do with it. The debut album of +44 is a perfect example. 2/3 of Blink 182 are a part of the band. Bass player Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker have teamed-up with Shane Gallagher (Nervous Return) and Craig Farbough (Transplants).

On this record you sometimes hear hazzard musical choices, like breaks, electro effects and weird rythms. First song Lycanthrope sounds familliar. Catchy Poppunk like we are used to from Blink 182, with some electronic influences. The sticker on the cd-case explains which songs will be singles and these are also the best of the record, esspecially when your heart stops beating and 155.

You can feel that Hoppus and Barker still haven't recovered from the bitter break-up of Blink 182. For example in 155: But you my dear have been discovered a liar/And I'm afraid that this is building up for far too long. Untill Interlude the album goes well. After that the album 'slowly walks' to an end. The song Make You Smile is a duet with Carol Heller (Get The Girl, Goodbye Radar). A lot of people will love the song, but I don't like these kind of 'question-answer' songs. For the Blink 182 fan this is a must have album. Sadly not a substitute

(they don't give albums a rank in this magazine)
