L8mer Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 later this month me and my band will play our first really big gig on a big stage for about 1000 people I know I'm sooo cool but I have a problem, I don't know how to jump with a guitar and make it look good, how do you guys do it? Quote
Guest ddv13devo Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Well, this is the usual process I follow when I jump: 1. Bend my knees. 2. Quickly straighten them up. 3. Let me own upward momentum lift me off the ground. 4. Put my feet below me as I fall back down. 5. Bend my knees once I hit the ground to absorb the impact. 6. Straighten up. Hope that helps. Quote
Rusty Shackelford Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Truthfully if you don't know how to jump and the show isn't really far away I'd focus more on hitting every note perfectly. Running around isn't all that hard but I'd really focus more on solid playing that stage tricks. Quote
CrackedSkye Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 watch videos of dillinger escape plan on youtube they will teach you how to jump Quote
Harper. Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 also make sure when you are coming down to support the guitar. cause the force your bringing back down can break your strap. done that a couple times Quote
caillou Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 um, don't jump when you're playing cuz it'll screw you up. jump when you only have to like play one chord or something simple Quote
CrackedSkye Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 um, don't jump when you're playing cuz it'll screw you up. jump when you only have to like play one chord or something simple not if your good Quote

murfdog_23 Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 my name is "good" so, i have nothing to worry about Quote
Roux Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Another thing is to make your guitar lead is long enough. Countless times ive seen guitarist rip the lead out of their amp. Quote
bart. Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 I always hold my right hand on the bridge of my guitar to keep it under control, works good. And by the way, don't be too cliche with jumps, like those goodcharlottesimpleplanstandardpoppunk jumps. they suck, imo. jumping around is much more fun, just practice in your room Quote
L8mer Posted February 8, 2007 Author Posted February 8, 2007 thanks everyone for your answers. I watched some old blink videos and noticed that mark keeps his head on the same level and sort of pulls up his legs close to his body. I wanna learn the "ninja kick" but it requires some stretching before I can pull it off Quote

Roux Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Few more things: 1. get good strap locks 2. be prepared to face plant in front of an audience. Quote
L8mer Posted February 9, 2007 Author Posted February 9, 2007 when i first got my wireless, i danced around so much. i liked to just jump straight up and just kick my legs out to the side. hahaha that must look awesome Quote
Harper. Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 when i first got my wireless, i danced around so much. i liked to just jump straight up and just kick my legs out to the side. what kind of wireless system do you have? Quote
Benjirob Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 its actually really easy to jump up and down while playing, you just need to practice a little bit. doing those big jumps where you kick your legs out in mid air is easier to do if you can stop playing for a second or the song goes into a interlude where there is a little pause like example, in aliens exist where it goes from the first verse into that cool interlude when the guitar comes back in and you don't really need a wireless system, just get some big ass long cable. Mr. Jones Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Jumping is teh gayz. I just kinda run around and dance. Quote
lemon_2005 Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 i kinda think you have to choose the right moment and not over do it, like then you could mess up a fair bit and just look silly by jumping too much, perhaps maybe a break in a song and land as it all comes back in...again though you may need to practice it...thats just my thoughts Quote
