it's certainly not a standard american strat because the truss rod nut is not at the headstock

but yeah it's not a JB so i think it's a 62 or one of the mexican 60's before they phased out the surf green for that model

either way he has no business handling it.

older american standards didnt have a truss rod in the headsttock
