sure do. for years i was in the REM fan club. got a club-only invite to a television performance taping for the show party of five in early 1998 at the palace in hollywood (capacity 1,500). i took a friend from high school. they played "at my most beautiful" over and over again for the taping. then they did an encore set for all of us. during the taping portion there were many stops and starts. we were standing right up front next to the stage (there was no barricade or security because it had to look like a low-key club/bar for the show). at one point stipe asked my friend to bum a smoke. she obliged and they shared it together between takes.

These shows are still some of the best I've ever been to ... the Reinventing to Eternal era was fucking amazing.

only time i ever felt genuine excitement in the crowds before shows. everyone hugging, screaming along because the songs were so dear to the fans. it was electric and unique.

I've never been to a show like that since.

no one has. sfafc and new wave have great moments but as soon as tom wrote more about how hard it is to sign to a major label than stuff like disco before the breakdown they started their downward trajectory towards being a really good rock band.

Harsh realms, true trans ,black me out and a couple of other songs are amazing but overall the magic is gone. And in my opinion that has little to do with them playing for 1-2000 people instead of 200. that's at least what i observed.

Glad for them though, they got big and people like them. laura is def still capable of writing killer songs. really hope they get more folky though!

@boxelder the new front bottoms dropped today. it's dope AF

this is my favorite one so far from this album. I see the common consensus that Going Grey wasn't as popular, but I loved that one just as much as anything else they've put out...either way, I do how this one seems to be a slight return to form.

Found a decent band last night,

i had totally forgotten about captain everything! snotty pop punk vocals in the early green day vein, but with more epi-fat aggressive guitars.
