It’s really cool and all but the groove is completely gone. Instead of a groovy beat we now got “bkbkbkbkbkbkbkbkbkbkbkbkbkbkbkbkbk” 🙈😂

Whatchu mean this dudes got groove for days! But yes he overplays but ain’t nobody gonna tell me he isn’t the worlds greatest drummer. Makes Travis look normal

it's unfortunate that Brian Wilson's voice changed so much later into his career.

this was my jam this week (even though it's not Brian singing)

Hell YES! I'm a HUGE Beach Boys fan. I lspecially love all their 60s records, since 1961 to 1966, until Pet Sounds-SMiLE. Today is a fantastic record, it was like the entrance for what was going to come in Pet Sounds. Wonderful set of songs.

Anyway, I was listening to Lost by BMTH. I love this tune.

Yeah, Today is a great album. In the last couple of years I finally got into Smiley Smile. To me it was always the album of Heroes and Villains but I never really listened to it thoroughly. Now I love it. I love the bedroom pop sounds of the songs, the harmonizing of the band and I think the album sounds great. Warm and punchy. It relaxes you.

Have you tried SMiLE? You know the story? I'd try to write it down briefly (sorry if you already know it):

  • SMiLE was going to be in 1967 the follow-up to Pet Sounds. Big project, big anticipation. Huge expectatives. All the media buzz and stuff.
  • Due to several reasons (Brian Wilson's mental problems got worse, amongst others), SMiLE got cancelled at the very last moment. Even the vinyl cardboard covers were done at that point and promo stands were distributed and ready to be located in the record stores.
  • From SMiLE's remains, and trying to get on track, Brian and the rest of the band creates Smiley Smile, simplifying lots of things, re-recording stuff and creating even new compositions.

Ok, during 40 years, several bootlegs surfaced all over the world, which were really easy to get once the Internet got big and people started to digitalize everything. So at its 40th anniversary, SMiLE gets released and toured in 2004 by Brian Wilson solo unter the title "Brian Wilson presents Smile", qhich was Brian's version, recorded at that moment (is a gorgeous recording and actually really respectful with the original recordings). A few years later, The Beach Boys, along with Brian, finally released SMiLE as it was supposedly intended to be with Capitol Records' support. The Brian Wilson's version helped to finally shape the original album using the original tapes. Both releases are wonderful, I really suggest you to take your time when you can to listen to both of them, specially The Beach Boys one. Also, it would be a good idea to watch the presentation show that was fully recorded and released by Brian and his band (I get chills every time I listen to the opening "Out Prayer", secially The BEach Boys' version). Is truly wonderful. That band is ace, also toured as backing band for The Beach Boys on their latest years.

Yeah, I'll definitely revisit that album one of these days.
