dildo69er Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 This is my review of each song from i-empire my take on it and overall view of the album Track 1. Call To Arms (5:05) The first time i heard this song i was not expecting the way it broke into the first verse, i believed it too be a slower song and im sure most would agree with me. I love this song such an excellent start to the album with awesome guitar riffs over effects and vocals we are more used to Tom giving us. The only complaint i had with this song as i wished the "i feel your heart" lyrics were a more central aspect to the song as i thought they were excellent 4/5 Track 2. Everything's Magic (3:52) I enjoy the faster up beat tempo of this song but theirs not much else i can say i enjoy about it, i still don't mind listening to it but it does not compare to the other songs I-Empire has to offer 2.5/5 Track 3. Breathe (5:33) This is the song i most dislike on I-Empire. The song fails to go anywhere to me the lyrics seem to simple and the chorus is lacking. In my opinion this song could of been a lot better 2/5 Track 4. Love Like Rockets (4:51) I think the effects of Eisenhower's voice in the intro really effect the mood of this song. The cool effects in the intro and chorus are catchy and i love the verses, the choruses are different not as good as they could be but i still enjoy them. The outro reminds me of the end of Feeling This with Tom and Mark screaming their parts. 3.5/5 Track 5. Sirens (4:19) I love this song it was one of my favorite's from the first leaks. Everything about this song i enjoy from its bass intro to its simple guitar verses. The choruses and interlude are really inspiring to me 4.5/5 Track 6. Secret Crowds (5:03) The intro to this song is very different which then kicks into a semi boxcar guitar riff. The choruses in this song are very powerful and would be great to imagine if only Tom could sing them live. Overall the structure of this song is good although i do wish at the end when the drums sped up tom also sang the chorus a tad different 3.5/5 Track 7/8. Star Of Bethlehem/True Love (2:08, 6:09 respectively) I dont think their was any reason to split these two songs other than to increase the track list. The song was long and not everyone liked the intro but i dont believe it deserved its own track. On the whole this track is very catchy with the choruses being hard to resist singing too. the verse's seem heavily effected but still sound great. 3.5/5 Track 9. Lifeline (4:17) The atmospheric intro to this song really sets the mood of a slower song which then begins to build up into something great. I thoroughly enjoy this song especially toms Oh Oh's towards the end with the other lyrics in the background this is another favourite from the album. 4.5/5 Track 10. Jumping Rooftops (0:45) This Interlude seems to out of place to me although it does lead into Rite Of Spring well i just don't think it deserved to be on the album 1/5 Track 11. Rite Of Spring (4:22) This lyrics in this song reminds me of the way Tom used to write about his life back in blink eg: Dick Lips style. I love the story in this song and simple guitar verses and catchy choruses really capture me into the music. I could see this song being a good single even though it is the only I-Empire song with swearing it still screams marketability 4/5 Track 12. Heaven (6:38) A great end to an album with clips from the past. This song really sucks me into the mood i believe Tom was trying to give his fans. I love the slow choruses and the complexity of the amount of guitars in this song. The high pitched notes at the end scream to me Tom butchering live but i still cant wait to hear it. I also love the reference to The Adventure at the end ya oh Here i Am 4/5 Angels And Airwaves - I-Empire Overall i really enjoyed this album over WDNTW. Whisper seemed almost forced compared to this and Toms voice sounds a lot more like himself than in Whisper. I can see me enjoying this album for a lot longer than Whisper overall 4/5 all comments are appreciated Quote
Run Home Jack Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 i agree with most of that apart from breathe, i think its one of the better songs toms written, not every song has to be extremely catchy, i think its a pretty beautiful song, the verse are brilliant, the chorus is somewhat lacking but then i find that secret crowds does too Quote
Chinomaster182 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I think it was okay but i feel you rushed this review, its only been a few hours after the leak. Quote
Guest reiss Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I think it was okay but i feel you rushed this review, its only been a few hours after the leak. Yeah, how can you review a record that's been "available" for a matter of hours? It needs to stand the test of staying power, etc. Quote
idontknow8 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 its bad ass and thats all there is to it. Quote
Ants in Pants Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 So you have the cd? If so, do whats right.... Quote
griff114 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Who cares if he reviewed it too early, its his first impressions. I agree with most of what you said, Breathe is well written, but it doesnt seem to have a direction (its still not a bad song though). I really think that making Jumping Rooftops into what it is was a waste, because that could easily be turned into an awesome song. I really wouldnt mind if they even made it just 2 or more minutes of music, its VERY catchy. Quote

M!ke Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I like it better than WDNTW, but its still not going to change the world as Tom puts it. It sucks that it has two interludes, and SOB/True Love isn't even a new song, meaning they only released 9 new songs for this album, thats less than the first album. It's going to be an album i'll enjoy listening to from time to time, but I already don't feel like i'm going to listen to it a lot. Having said that, it certainly has some stand out tracks which will probably get a good amount of listens from me: Call To Arms has already been that case along with Sirens, and to a lesser extent Heaven, plus I really enjoy Rite Of Spring, and I think Love Like Rockets is decent too, the rest will only be listened to occasionally. Overall i'd give the album a 3.5/5 Quote
trunks Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I'm disappointed. There are some stand out tracks but the whole album is just okay. Almost every song lacks something, I really think Mark could have made the record a lot better. I hope it'll grow on me. Quote
wotdsm Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I personally believe Secret Crowds, E'sM, Call to Arms, Rite Of Spring and Heaven alone TOPPLE anything else Tom DeLonge has written... It never ceases to amaze me... I do love every single song on the album though. I already can't wait to hear album #3 Quote
Benjirob Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 even though it is the gayest song title ever, i really like love like rockets Quote
wotdsm Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Lol I didn't see the word title so I thought you said "even though its the gayest song ever, I really like love like rockets" Quote
bmo Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 ya i dont like your review at all. the songs you gave bad reviews to are probably the best ones on the album in my opinion Quote
dildo69er Posted October 26, 2007 Author Posted October 26, 2007 id call it a review....as ive had all the tracks except 2 for ages, then when i got the last two i listened to them repeatedly... Quote
Ants in Pants Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 I really like this cd. However, It doesnt have that exciting feeling like WDNTW...because this style was new. Hearing it again is like, bleh...If AvA does another record, they have to get rid of this spacey feeling, its just gonna get boring. Tom needs to get into Box Car Racer mode or something similiar to keep things fresh. I do miss those loud distortion guitars... Quote
wotdsm Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Kind of like The War. I saw a hint of boxcar in that song... Quote
