The bass I wanted is on back order until June or July at the earliest. I ended up going with a Fender Precision Player Series instead … it’s not my first choice but it’ll be reliable enough.

The supply chain issues are wild right now. I was told in December that a guitar I was interested in would take at least 6 months to arrive. I found another store that had ordered one for their own stock early last year and still hadn't received it, so I put a deposit down on that one. It's supposed to arrive within the next couple of weeks, but I'm not holding my breath.

It’s fucking weird, yeah. I would have done the back order but I just started recording again and didn’t want to put it off until mid summer.

It’s also making the pricing weird too, this same bass was well over $1400 at the guitar shop this past summer and now I got it for under a grand.

Nice. What model?

D-15m, I think. Not entirely set on it though, wanna go play a bunch of them first.

I've heard a lot of good things about the 15 series.

Spoiler

I have an irrational dislike of dreadnoughts though. I think it's because my first ever guitar was an awful dread that was super uncomfortable to play.

Don't buy a Lava guitar..

I'm an idiot.  It was a great ordeal for me, because super portable with the built in amps/effects and all.  But it really sounds cheap in-person.  The effects are all really not connected to the guitar, but like it's playing in the background/on top of it to mask whatever you're playing.  It's weird.  Fuck instagram ads.

Oh, most importantly, it's not loud enough.  It's quieter than my acoustic on full volume, and they advertise you can carry this thing around and play live unplugged.

I hadn't even heard of them until I read your post. What's the appeal of a carbon fibre guitar outside of certain travel situations?

For me it was mostly for that, to be able to take it on trips and stuff, the unique addition to 'normal' guitars, and practicing whenever without having to plug in.  It's kind of cool it connects right with your phone, but it's so fucking quiet, unless I have the worst hearing, but it kind of defeats the purpose to have effects if the strings alone sound louder than the amps.

I bought my first bass guitar today. It's a cheap Squier P Bass guitar that I plan to upgrade and use to record my first album ever. I have around 1000 song ideas and guitar riffs that I've been creating since 2006, and I don't want to just die and let them go to waste. It's time to bring them to life.

I wish you luck, bud. Share with us when you get it done.
