What's The Last Movie You Watched?

Just rewatched Fight Club for the first time in a long time with someone's first time.  Man, that movie did not age well.  Great themes and premise, of course, but it is so late 90s/early 2000s it hurts.

Also, Tyler Durden's character has been done so many times now.  So many shows have a Tyler Durden type character.

Watched Disney's new Pinocchio last night.

Well done tribute to the original. Suffers from staying so true to the original story, which is dated. Still, probably a worthwhile remake to have around. Tom Hanks was awesome. The average person would probably find it boring because it's long. My kids and I enjoyed.

There are famous things such as the Disney "When you wish upon a star" song that I forgot came from this. Haven't seen the cartoon since I was a little kid.

8/10- Will be a dud, but glad it exists

Interesting decision last night, Ghent.

Think I might go after the cartoon tonight for old times' sake. Stay tuned

EDIT: Just realized I forgot to post my review of Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers last week.

Nosferatu (1922)

For a silent movie that's 100 years old, I gotta say it was kind of spooky. Film was court ordered for destruction due to Dracula copyright infringement. Copies survived.

7/10

I watched this last October right around the time I read the book Dracula. I liked it. The fact that we can watch movies that are over a century old blows my mind. I watched a short film about Jesus that is supposedly from 1898, just because I wanted to see what a movie that’s that old is like. A movie from the 1800s! That’s insane to me.

Watched Barbarian last night. Good modern horror. I think the praise I’ve seen for it is a bit overblown but I liked it.

Also watched The Last Jedi again. That’s the good stuff.

I liked the start but didn’t like it once Justin Long came in.

Old movies tend to freak me out way more.  Something about the stop motion or just no digital effects always works better. Digital effects I think your mind can pick up on and always remind you "it's not real, it's just a movie". Old movies are just an eery vibe.

It’s kind of like old Halloween costumes. They are legit 100x creepier than anything modern

Yeah..now that it think about it, outside of Paranormal Activity, the only trauma and lingering nightmares I ever had were from older horror movies.  Exorcist, Eyes without a face, The Thing, even those super old one like creature from the black lagoon.  They weren't even THAT scary, but they just had such an eery unpleasant vibe. Any of that new stuff just does not hit me no matter how hard they try.  Just gore porn or jump scares that don't last.

Puppet Master (1989) oddly gave me legit night terrors and stomach sick for weeks I couldn't stop worrying about them sneaking into my window and drilling into my head when I'm sleeping. That movie seems so silly but the practical effects just fuck with you.

Watched the original Nightmare on Elm Street last night for the first time in years. Still one of my favorite horror movies. I love some good cheesy 80s horror and Elm Street is easily the most fun of them all. Even most of the sequels are pretty good which is rare. Might have to go through the series again.
