Just because a band that was once mainstream isn’t as radio popular after 30 years doesn’t mean they still aren’t mainstream. I literally heard 2 311 songs being played at Planet Fitness earlier this week lol. And they’re still great! Quote

Sgt. Rainbow Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Don’t be a bozo. 311 is the real deal. Nick is easily a better guitarist than Tom. And just look at that hog in his pants 🥵 1 2 Quote

Bro he absolutely can not. I don’t understand why you have to do this. It’s okay to say someone is your favorite without declaring them to be the best at everything. I guarantee you there are for more people in this world who think Tom is not the best than there are people who thinks he is. And none of it matters anyways so it just looks dumb to say he’s the best guitarist in any situation lol. And him not being that great has always been a part of his charm and what made him so relatable and influential. You don’t have to pretend he is something that he’s not. Quote
Paparazzi Magnet Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Tom being the best of his era and genre has nothing to do with him knowing theory (which is soulless), nor does it have anything to do with playing needly fast (boring!) leads, or even mastering boomer bends that have saturated 50 years of rock into complete lackluster dullness. He’s not about technical talent by any means. Tom’s gift is his emotional talent with his riffs. The melodies convey such cool feelings and ideas, meanwhile being so catchy. And he manages to do it with such simplicity. The amount of soul that he packs into such little notes is unparalleled. And it’s hard to put into words what the riffs convey. You listen to them and you fucking get so much emotional imagery out of it. Stay Together for the Kids Man Overboard Dumpweed Mutt Dysentary Gary Always (pre chorus) The Adventure Love Like Rockets (How the hell did this guy manage to make a guitar sound like a rocket ship taking off. Damn.) … The list goes on All of this (rightfully so) made the dude a favorite by so many. Just fun little emotional snippets that inspired tons of people to pickup a guitar for the first time so that they could replicate them. 2 1 Quote

So in other words, your definition of best is just your favorite. Not everyone who hears a blink song has the same feeling and opinion that you do. I don’t know why this is so impossible for you guys to understand. Two hard truths for you: 1) blink will always be second fiddle to Green Day 2) Tom is not the best guitarist in any universe Doesnt mean you can’t love them the most. I do. Quote
Sgt. Rainbow Posted January 11 Posted January 11 5 minutes ago, thongrider said: Best technically is not specified at all. Yea I mean this is such a worthless conversation. But it’s clear some people are defining best as their personal favorite. I like to step outside of my personal preferences to try and be objective and some others don’t and that’s ok. Detroit Lions are my favorite football team. Are they the best NFL franchise to ever exist? Absolutely not lol. It’s ok to admit the truth. 1 Quote
Paparazzi Magnet Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Everybody has their own definition of “best.” But when you’re dealing with music, that’s sort of the point. It’s supposed to be subjective and everybody has their own ways of determining what they think is “best.” 1 Quote
