i've been watching the recent past live videos of Crimson and i will defend this album forever. i think it was the band's last honest work. i really love that Matt's lyrics on this album touch upon literature and historical tragedies; which is something he never did before in trio (EDIT: i guess he did with Donner Party) and he hasn't really done in this band since. and Dan's songs are super dark on here.

I like it, but the end where they literally tell you what the song is about is annoying and unnecessary. Would be way better if they left that part out or wrote something different instead.

I feel like it fits in. I mean the song is a retrospective analysis...It's about being aware of how your, and other's, lives have progressed. So I feel like breaking the fourth wall there fits with the meaning of the song.

And it's not like they say, "In case you're wondering...We're singing about how when you get older you lost a lot of the ambition you had in your youth." There's still some ambiguity.

I think it's kind of ambiguous do to it being somewhat vague...I mean, it could be interpreted in many different ways.

 

Then again you're probably right, haha. I didn't really get the full meaning of the song when I just let the CD play in my car, and that line just kind of stuck out to me due to its repetition. But once I actually read the rest of the lyrics the meaning of the song was obvious.
