The post seemed oddly political. Hmmmm, not sure. But it definitely seems like bad blood. A bit odd since he seemed like a good fit, hell he even drummed for them 20 + years ago and was in the Private Eye video! Quote

Also, Atom has been their fourth drummer: Glenn Porter, Mike Felumlee, Derek Grand and Atom Willard. The situation looks weird. As you have pointed out: no thank you, no nothing. Derek would have been their drummer for life, but unfortunately his struggles with bipolar disorder no longer allow him to dedicate himself to the band or to touring I also read that someone who knows Derek personally asked if he would ever come back, and he said no and that he actually found out through social media that Atom had left the band as well. Personally I think that if there is no drama involved, Atom probably left because ALK3 aren’t the same band they were pre-2015, when they were basically releasing albums every couple of years followed by long touring cycles. Now they seem more relaxed and probably don’t even need to tour constantly for financial reasons, while Atom might since his career has almost always depended on touring. So maybe that’s just the reason why he left. 1 Quote

Elisa Posted March 20 Posted March 20 Alkaline Trio have officially announced their new drummer, just weeks after confirming the departure of Atom Willard earlier this year. Back in February, Willard himself confirmed that he had stepped away from the band. He had joined in 2023 as the replacement for longtime drummer Derek Grant, who spent 22 years behind the kit, making his tenure one of the most significant in the band’s history. Now, frontman Matt Skiba has confirmed that the band’s new drummer is Tosh Peterson, a 24-year-old musician from Los Angeles, California. Despite his young age, Peterson has already built an impressive résumé, having toured globally and recorded with major artists including Lady Gaga, Fall Out Boy, MGK, Troye Sivan, The Kid LAROI, jxdn, among others. Sharing the news, Skiba expressed strong enthusiasm about the band’s latest addition, stating: “Love this guy. He's already the best drummer in the world in our book. We're honored to be playing with Tosh for these upcoming shows and we're hoping for a long time to come.” Alkaline Trio are set to return to the stage in June and July for a run of shows across Europe. This doesn’t change the fact that I will always think of Derek as their drummer anyway 😂 Quote

But who knows, maybe he ends up being the best fit, although I also thing there are other options that, apparently, fit better for a huge amount of reasons. But well... what do we know? Oh, and I also think Derek will be always AK3 drummer. It's really hard to 'replace' a person like him. He was much more than a drummer. He played a huge role on modelling what we feel now what the Alkaline Trio's soul feels like. Quote
