_Kyle_ Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 the book Everybody Hurts actually has a joke about the Alkaline Trio suit and tie era being apart of the "What Emo Are You" potion. Quote
Ghost Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I love how spontaneus this seems to be. Little bit messy when they go trom The KKK Took My Baby Away to Mercy Me, but I really dig this performance:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OsaaVbpcco Quote

Also his voie is awesome and his back-up vocals really add a lot to the songs. This is also a gem, from when This Addiction was released and they switched around for Fine with Matt on drums, Derek on bass and Dan on guitar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qXQYI_nsdQ Quote
Ghost Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Yep, saw that back in the day. Matt was a drummer before Alkaline Trio. I hope this kind of swtching is pro-shooted and released some day. Fine is one of my favs. Quote

Ghost Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 6 years old???!!! Oh my... we're gettnig older. Definitely. Quote
Rocky Braveheart Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 My Shame Is True is almost 3 years old, time we had a new record I think. What the fuck Skiba doing?! ;) Quote
Kay Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Isn't it 2 years? thought it came out in 2013? Quote
Rocky Braveheart Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I thought it was early 2013? Hence, nearly 3 years old. Could very well be mistaken though. Quote
Cheerios4u98 Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Still not a huge Alk3 fan, but I recently put From Here to Infirmary and Agony & Irony on my phone and whenever one of the songs come up when I'm shuffling my music I usually enjoy it. Maybe there is hope for me to one day become a fan. Still love Kutz though. Great album. Quote
Ghost Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Hey, man. Don't worry, nobody has to be a fan of AK3 because Skiba is now on blink. You dont 'have' to like them. Enjoy what you want to enjoy, that's fine :). For some bands, I really love some records or songs, but I don't consider myself a fan of that band. Quote
Kay Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 It's weird, I fuckin' loved Alk3's earlier albums and then Crimson disappointed me and I didn't like anything after that. It's only because of Matt joining blink that I even bothered to revisit their later stuff and now I really like a lot of My Shame Is True. I still think some stuff is awful, though. like This Addiction is a terrible fucking song, for example. but songs like Help Me, I never liked it previously but I have a new appreciation for it. 1 Quote
Ghost Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I really liked all their stuff, until Agony & Irony. Not very convinced on This Addiction; but it's true that My Shame Is True and Broken Wing EP didn't hit me that hard as they did back in the day. Quote
_Kyle_ Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Good Mourning to me is so enjoyable. Put that on! 3 Quote
redhotbrianpeppers Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I'm right there with you guys - especially Kay. Good Mourning used to be my jam, and I like all their older stuff. Then Crimson was the first album that I actually anticipated getting and bought right when it released. I was pretty disappointed. I guess that was a disappointing age for music, because I was learning all these discographies and not really contextualizing how the bands had evolved over time. I also think it does have a lot to do with a lot bands starting to suck though as well. Crimson let me down. American Idiot was the first greenday CD I bought day of, and I quickly grew to hate it. Chuck let me down a little. Hypnotize/ Mesmerize pretty much suck imo. Uplifter by 311 sucked. There were quite a few. Untitled was my first blink CD I got day of, and I was a little letdown first listen. Then it grew every time, and I listened like 10 times a day for probably a fucking year lol. Other than that, I dread when a band I just discovered drops a new album. 2 Quote

Crimson let me down, Chase This Light (J.E.W) let me down as did basically every other release of theirs since, Say Anything (self titled) let me down, and yeah, just loads of records by bands I grew to love at a time. as soon as that next release came it was a huge disappointment. 1 Quote
Cheerios4u98 Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I think I'm one of the few JEW fans who really loved Chase This Light. It's in my top 3 JEW albums, along with Bleed American and Clarity. Quote
Ghost Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Well, I really love Crimson, hahaha., along with their older stuff. Quote
Ghost Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 But then, you come back to things like this, and it all blows a ot of their late work: I really dug that very dark period in their career. The look, the imaginery, the lyrics, the refferences... all. And looking back to that period, and the way Matt presented himself on stage, I wonder how many musicians Dave Vanian has been influencing over the years. Quote
