_Kyle_
blink lyrics aren't cringey but more or less just average. This.....this is something adult men shouldn't be writing.
thongrider
Some of those lyrics are hilarious! They're not trying to be overly serious and when they are they actually succeed on those records, I take "Adam's Song" a lot more serious than that True Friends song. _Kyle_
I think the stream of conscious that is Apple Shampoo is basically the pop-punk version of Ginsberg's Howl.
thongrider
I saw the best minds of minds of my generation take what they're willing to give and teach themselves to live with a walk-on part in a background shot from a movie they're not in

ruaraidhlando45
Are you still 15?I don't really care for lyrics but find it hilarious that a group of blink fans are slagging off another bands lyrics.Blink are one of the biggest sell out bands I can think of and their lyrics especially on enema and toypaj for guys in their mid 20s are cringe beyond belief. You got any examples please? Low Value Boy
First Date lyrics are pretty awful, who goes on a first date in their mid to late twenties? The Rock Show - "everytime her parents go out of town" - erm Mark aren't you close to 30? Happy Holidays you Bastard - stupid and barely make sense. Give me One Good Reason - singing lyrics about jocks and preppies, mom and dad not understanding and ditching school. I feel like I'm dissing Blink when they're my favourite band but to say they are amazing lyricists is pretty stupid.

ruaraidhlando45
There are too many I can't be bothered.Pipe down then eh? First Date lyrics are pretty awful, who goes on a first date in their mid to late twenties? The Rock Show - "everytime her parents go out of town" - erm Mark aren't you close to 30? Happy Holidays you Bastard - stupid and barely make sense. Give me One Good Reason - singing lyrics about jocks and preppies, mom and dad not understanding and ditching school. I feel like I'm dissing Blink when they're my favourite band but to say they are amazing lyricists is pretty stupid.First Date and The Rock Show, the story behind those says it all really. This was written by Mark for the TOYPAJ vinyl reissue: we recorded the demos for take off your pants and jacket in the same small practice studio where we wrote enema of the state. after a couple of weeks we had amassed about a dozen songs. we were proud of our work. the songs were different from anything we’d written before. the tracks were catchy, but with a definitive edge. we invited our manager to the studio. he was the first person outside of the band to hear the new songs and we were excited to show them off. in the control room, he listened quietly to the tracks one by one. at the end, we turned to him with an “am i right or what?†expectation, to which he said “i think it’s really cool, but i don’t hear that THING. that blink-182 good-time summer anthem thing…†WHAT?! are you fucking kidding me?! summertime anthem good time whatever the fuck you just said? tom and i were furious. how could someone demean our masterpiece?! do you not GET it? you want a fucking single? i’ll write you the cheesiest, catchiest, throwaway fucking summertime single you’ve ever heard. i drove home, grabbed my guitar, sat on the floor, and wrote “the rock show†in ten minutes. tom drove home, grabbed his guitar, and wrote “first date.†these became the first two singles off of the album—widely successful tracks, and live favorites to this day.Happy Holidays is a "joke" song, so naturally the lyrics are gonna be absurd.Give Me One Good Reason - I can see where you're coming from there. Although a lot of the references in the lyrics are to "they" not "we" which makes it a bit more reasonable imo. For example: i like the ones who say they listen to the punk rocki like the the kids who fight against how they were brought upThey hate the trends and think it's fucked to care,it's cool when they piss people off with what they wear, oh yeah Seems he's just talking about the youth of the day.

Aria
Man, as someone who looks for lyrics in songs, and sort of clings to that aspect of music (Hell, my hero is Oberst...) I find nothing wrong with Blink's lyrics. I think for the most part, they do a really great job. We've all seen the bridge, a broken seam and a girl on one sideyou think your words will workbut they only work when you lay down and close your eyesI thought of all the lines, all the right ones used at all the wrong timesbut that's alright, depression's just a sarcastic state of mind. I think of all the things I'd say to you if I had the chance againI think of all the things I'd screambut I think it's for the best that you and I just don't connect andthings are never quite what they seemwill there ever be a girl to give her heart to me or will I be too blind to see it?I wouldn't make a soundI'd keep it underground It always seems like I'm running, running, running, running 'round One more time you will laugh about it and he'll never try to give you moreand I don't care, he is such a dick... treats you like you are a stupid whoreand it seems like things will never changeyou go on, every cloud is in your wayand I know you feel empty all the timeyou never listen to anything I say All of Apple Shampoo... The three date theory's getting oldeveryone's getting left out in the coldI wish it didn't have to be so badSo, i'll see you with another guywho pretends not to hear you when you cry, oh yeah, I wish it didn't have to be so bad Don't depend on me to ever follow throughon anything, but I'd go through hell for you and I haven't been this scared in a long timeand I'm so unprepared, but here's your valentinea bouquet of clumsy words, a simple melodythis world's an ugly place, but you're so beautiful to me. More time apart will you give youa few more months to argueis this too much to live throughit always seemed too far to drive the point homesend more letters...pray tomorrowends up better I know their catalogue is huge, but these are just the first songs that randomly popped in my mind and I just started typing out parts quickly... I think they're consistently great with their writing. Even songs like touchdown boy in my opinion I saw my friend out on the field todayI asked him where he's going, he said "All the way"now one by one as they walk right through the doorthey just keep coming back, I guess they want morehe has fun, fun, fun and you might call him a whorebut just look where he's at cause he is the one that scores For Pop Punk guys, they killed it. And when they changed their sound up... I'm so lost, I'm barely hereI wish I could explain myself, but words escape meyou're too late to save me You're too late... You're too lateYou're cold with disappointmentwhile I'm drowning in the next roomthe last contagious victim of this plague between usI'm sick with apprehensionI'm crippled from exhaustionand I dread the moment when you finally come to kill me always found this beautiful -I'm talking to the ceilingmy life just lost all meaningdo one thing for me tonightI'm dying in this silencethe last star left in heavenis falling down to earth anddo you still feel the same way?Do you still feel the same way? Not trying to argue, just had fun reflecting on blink lyrics.
Kay
old blink lyrics were quite solid and that's when they weren't trying to be and thats the difference. BMTH are trying to be sincere and it ends up awkward and cheesy as balls. but I'm not bagging on them, a lot of bands in similar genres are the same. Aria
I mean, from those songs Dan posted I don't quite understand the amount of hate they're getting. I couldn't find anything wrong with them, and I've been rocking the shit out of Drown these past few days.
Aria
and I'm trying to hear that cheesiness, but can't. They sound pretty sincere.
