You've heard ONE song. Judge their progression once you've heard it all.

As mark said in the Rolling Stone article:

"It goes in a lot of different directions," says Hoppus. "We have some songs that sound like Blink-182 from 1999. ... We have some songs that are like nothing we have ever done before. We have a ballad called 'Home Is Such a Lonely Place' that has clean arpeggiated finger-picking guitars with strings underneath it. We have super-fast late-Nineties-punk-rock-sounding songs. ... We tried to capture the energy and not worry so much about all the knobs."

No no, I was not trying to say that they wouldn't progress as a band in ANY way. I was just trying to make it clear that I truly do not believe that they will hit the same heights as when Tom was in the band.

It will most likely be a mix of songs lacking progression and a mix of songs that show some different things they can do with Matt.  Like I said though, I am excited for it, I think it will be a lot of great music.
These are all just things that I am betting on...Obviously I completely agree that Its way to early to tell.

why do you guys think he's ripping on Feldy? He's just saying they (mark and travis) wanted a producer to work with them on the next album because of the artistic differences they had after the last album

He would've said 'producer' if he wanted to. Feldmann is known as a producer, he worked on the album as a producer. He decided to say they brought in a songwriter.

Am I like one of the only ones who supports blink, Ava , and Toms solo stuff and book endeavors. I listen to it all. I am reading poet right now, and looking forward to his future books. I love the new blink 100% and yeah I wish Tom would be in it. But if he doesn't want to be in it then why force it. Skiba is doing great. And let Tom say what he has to say. None of you actually know what goes on in their daily lives

Hi everybody-

I understand all the craziness out there in Internet-land, it is an odd time for fans of the Blink-182 legacy, I know- It's odd for me, too.

Well, I met with Mark yesterday, and Travis the week before.... I actually talk to Travis almost every day, now.

The answer is this:

We DO have a future together if we want it, but for now we are busy doing separate things. I am directing a movie this summer, releasing a couple more albums of music and digging deeper into my relationships with the US Government on the Sekret Machines Project.

I know people are comparing the Angels and Airwaves Chasing Shadows EP to the new Blink-182 music, and that is a failed task. For one, I think having a song-writer that came in on the Blink album (Feldy- 5 Seconds of Summer, Good Charlotte) was something they felt was necessary, and that in itself may be an indicator of some of our current artistic differences that are difficult to overcome. At the time, I was recording the song NEW WORLD (on the DEMOS album titled after my own name) and that was my personal opinion of where we could possibly take Blink for the next album. But we are at different places in our minds, careers and goals, I get it.

But that said, I obviously want them to make the music they wish. I have always been thankful for them in my life, but I am a forward thinking artist, and sometimes that leads me down a different path- That is why I have done other projects like: Box Car Racer, Angels and Airwaves- LOVE 1 & 2, AND The Dream Walker etc...

I look forward to my upcoming Feature Film, the Historical-Fiction Sekret Machines Project, the Poet Anderson adventure, the ridiculous stories of Strange Times, and a hell of a lot more...

....Maybe even a bit of Blink-182 if we can build back that "special something" that was once there.

The answer is this:

We DO have a future together if we want it, but for now we are busy doing separate things. I am directing a movie this summer, releasing a couple more albums of music and digging deeper into my Sekret Machines Project with the US Department of Defense.

I know people are comparing the Angels and Airwaves Chasing Shadows EP to the new Blink-182 music, and that is a failed task. We are different people after different things. For one, I think having a song-writer that came in on the Blink album (Feldy- 5 Seconds of Summer, Good Charlotte) was something they desired, and that in itself may be an indicator of some of our current artistic differences that are difficult to overcome. I've just always liked the song-writing we did together. But, at the end of the day, I support their desires.

Earlier this year, I was recording the song NEW WORLD (on the DEMOS album titled after my own name) and that was my first early opinion of where we could possibly take Blink for the next album. At the end of the day, both of us have ideas, but from opposite sides of the road... Now, we are at different places in our minds, careers and goals, I get it.

But that said, I obviously want them to make the music they wish. I have always been thankful for them in my life, but I am a forward thinking artist, and sometimes that leads me down a different and far-reaching path- That is why I have done progressive projects like: Box Car Racer, Angels and Airwaves- "LOVE" Feature Film and it's albums 1 & 2, and even the "Dream Walker" Album, with the accompanying animations and Novel etc...

I look forward to my upcoming film and music adventures, and a hell of a lot more...

....Maybe throw in a bit of Blink-182, if we can build back that "special something" that was once there.

Jesus people.
I was personally ecstatic when I read Tom's comment. I also happen to agree with him...Tom has always wanted to separate blink from bands like Good Charlotte and 5 Seconds of Summer...which are bands that I personally am not a fan of. Tom wanted to move the band forward not see the band in stagnation. LOOK AT FUCKING SELF TITLED GUYS. Most people on here agree that self titled is blinks best work and I TRULY believe that Tom is credited for taking the bold move to push the band in that direction (after experimenting with box car racer). Now I am not saying Tom is the ONLY reason self titled was what it was (in fact my favorite song off of self titled in probably heres your letter). But anyone who thinks that masterpiece would have been anywhere near as good without Tom is fucking blind.

I truly believe people on here should be happy and grateful they are communicating with each other. Tom is obviously a little bitter about whats going on and frustrated but I think its understandable. Tom has his problems...he delayed blink multiple times from recording and stopped taking things seriously but I feel like there is a lot of evidence that he did this largely because they could not agree on how to move the band forward.

Now I am personally excited to see what blink comes up with for the new record and I think it will be a great nostalgic trip. Do I think it will be lacking progression though? Absolutely. Part of that blink magic is the push and pull between Tom Mark and Travis. The stars really aligned on them finding each other and with this current line up I still think they will make great things...but will they ever hit the heights they made while Tom was in the band? Hell no.

Just keep in mind one thing, untitled was produced by Jerry Finn. After that they stopped with having a known producer and did it on their own.

but...he's known for being a songwriter as well... I don't get the shitstorm heading for tom. I'm just suprised they still talk and everything seems to be somewhat "cool".

The only ones causing trouble right now are the fans. People are talking shit about him everywhere, ofcourse he's going to reply some day

What the hell would lead you to believe he would just straight up lie about this?
Even if you truly believe Tom is completely mental...He isn't one to just FLAT OUT lie...that makes no sense.

Because it's what Tom does, Sorry but after years of bullshit delays and excuse after excuse and promoting his other band I have no respect for the man or believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth. If you're still a Tom fan fine cool that's your right. I just don;t believe a word he says anymore.

Hell, even I'm honestly think 'what the fuck, Tom?!' The dude needs to grow a pair and move on now. I don't really ever shot on Tom because I don't care much about the band politics and he's made music I enjoy ... not necessarily with AVA but there's always been solid work with Blink even after the reunion. The guy made his choices and the band made theirs and went a different path. Its time to do what ever it is he wants to do and move forward. The Blink 'legacy' he shared is over and done with, let the new one begin.

The EP was good but if he thinks people are doing this, he's delusional

Most people aren't, but even on these boards I've seen some "Chasing Shadows EP is better than Bored to Death" posts.

I think a lot of people are like you, and a message board is never a good place to judge the larger fanbase of any band or team or anything. BUT the thing that always rubs some of us super hardcore type fans the wrong way isn't the fact that Tom left, or the fact that he is doing other projects. It's just that he has gone about it in what we (and Mark and Travis, to at least some extent) perceive to be a shitty and lame way.

I've said all along that if Tom would've just said at some point, "Fellas, it's been great, but it's time for me to move on! We've had good times and bad times, and it was all great, and now it's time for me to try out a bunch of other stuff I've always wanted to try!" I would have been totally fine with it. But the fact that he's always been at least passive-aggressive (let alone egomaniacal, paranoid, dishonest, etc.) ever since the original breakup, makes us annoyed.

It's not the fact that he's doing different projects, it's that somewhere along the way he became a different person.

And the next step would have been WDNTW. The untitled happened because Travis pushed Tom into listening to different bands, which first led to BCR. The next step would not have been evolution anymore but mutation into something completely different and lame.

Yeah but it's never that easy. We don't know the actual conversations or the feelings involved. It's all pretty harsh speculation for the most part. Im a true fan of all the guys and seeing so many people bash them in the comments all day is tiring I.e. Tom go back to blink you suck! Or this isn't blink this is +44, no Tom no blink, blah blah blah. It's truly tiring and discouraging to read
