By "our generation" I'm assuming most blink heads are mid 90s/2000s. For me I'd have to go Dave Mathews as best band/artist. They've lasted through the 90s until now still making incredible music, huge following, considered the best live band for a couple decades, tons of #1 albums, lead concert tickets sales, etc. Most influential - Nirvana, Green Day, 2pac/Eminem I just think all things considered, he's our generation's best Quote

For 1990s bands: Nirvana (considered the "flagship band" of Generation X), Green Day especially, and to an extent Red Hot Chili Peppers and Weezer. I feel like you meant just a single one, but I can't pick. My favorite of the ones I listed is Green Day, though (with the exception of everything after American Idiot). Quote

Eminem, Green Day Red Hot all feel off pretty hard, while I agree top of the list in influential. Fuck Kanye. Nirvana, Brittney too short lived. Radiohead, Weezer not as big and too niche imo (Weezer did sell a shit ton though) I should rephrase it to 'best' artist/band of our generation. I wouldn't consider Dave Mathews more influential than any of those, they're their own unique crew. Quote
Fun, Catchy Pop-Punk Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Best I'd go with Red Hot Chili Peppers. They had a long peak, spanning from Blood Sugar Sex Magik to Stadium Arcadium. Slane Castle is one of the best concerts I've ever watched. John Frusciante and Flea are both incredibly skilled and Anthony Kiedis' creative and free style lyrics work really well most of the time. 1 Quote

I wouldn't consider Dave Mathews more influential than any of those, they're their own unique crew. I think an artist can still be influential and inspiring even if their career was short-lived. A lot of people still consider Eminem to be the best rapper ever even though he hit his peak pretty early on in his career. And I think Britney is the biggest female artist of the 2000s. A lot of pop music has a short shelf life, but even in that timespan they can still influence a lot of artists. Plus Nirvana was bigger than all of the bands I listed. And unfortunately, whether you like him or not, Kanye has left quite the mark. I'm not a fan of the Dave Matthews band and I wouldn't consider them influential on the level of any of the other bands. They had a long span, I can see an argument for them. I definitely agree with influence. All 3 of them were massive influential and popular. Eminem wasn't as short lived as them but it's hard to watch him go at it nowadays not even half the talent is there. I'm not really factoring influential...DMB is too unique of a band imo, as they are way too complex for bands to just pick up and take after...as a band, they've just held a high level of success for a long period of time and created such a big following that never has really left either. They made a mark on every part of our generation whether like them/him or not..90s, late 90s, early 2000s, there was always a Dave moment. Samurai Cop was another hit just released. 1 Quote

Bjork, Damon Albarn, Conor Oberst, Radiohead, Eminem, Beck, Mark Everett, Elliot Smith, Jim James, Chan Marshall, Jack White, Fiona Apple, Doug Martsch, John Darnielle, Stuart Murdoch, Isaac Brock, Sleater-Kinney, Dave Grohl, Sufjan Stevens, etc. that's just off the top of my head, and it's hard to not include Billie Joe Armstrong and Rivers Cuomo, cause they are 94 babies. 1 Quote

Think about what their band entails while remaining popular all these years.. In retrospect, he's truly the popular artist that remained most true. He was meant to write music to make you think and be real. I wasn't a fan early on either, it just took me time to appreciate what he does more. Especially after all my bands either sold out, flaked out, or fell off significantly in talent & quality, or worst of all - stopped caring Quote
