Popular Post boxelder
11 hours ago, Ghent said: Just an old poster reminiscing(?) here but this blink section was absolutely dead before the blink reunion. Prior to 2009 there literally was a handful of posts in this section a week at best. Is that what you want boxelder? If blink died after untitled, do you really think you would be here talking about them today? Or after Neighborhoods? An “intact” legacy would probably equal $13 target t-shirts with poser Nirvana type shirt wearers. What is this super pop punk legend legacy you fantasize about going to bring you in the end? An era of fake fans that eventually moves on to something new? We’re here today. Our band is making music. You don’t have to enjoy it all, but while you’re here posting all the time you might try to get into it? At least respect it? The alternative is almost certainly a dead message board and fake fans trying to look cool on Instagram. Showing off that they’re into some quirky band that peaked in 2003. Lighten up people. There’s enough bad shit going on in the world without you shitting on things you used to love. the band -- the real one, mark/tom/trav -- will likely never be the same again, on creative and personal levels. this was proven with the reunion era being so rocky. i get your point: it's not lost on me how awful those years were, waiting for a cohesive band and being promised lies. there were still sparks of greatness, but they were few and far between. but it's my belief now that when tom walked in 2014, forging ahead was simply a mistake. a noble one -- mark/trav owe it to the fans, and to themselves -- but it just isn't right, and never has been. you suggest too that i try to get into it if i'm here all the time -- aside from this being a wrong perspective on someone's opinion differing, the facts are that i have offered praise for elements of the skiba era all the time... you just focus on my negative comments. i've enjoyed getting to hear deep cuts live, i thought they played great on last year's wayne tour, and there's a handful of true keepers from this era (cynical, san diego). hell i've even got to bat for some of the worst offenders (sober, parking lot). my big issues stem from the lack of chemistry with skiba, aggressively formulaic and farmed-out songwriting, and wacky focus on remaining relevant (oliver tree/XXX/whatever). i can talk about these things and still enjoy SOOHM as much as i do. at the end of the day, i'd be just fine if they hung it up back in 2014, or waited for tom to come back. when things go away and come back, there's often an appreciation that stems from their absence. when blink reunited in 2009, despite it being a fairly short amount of time away in the grand scheme, they were pulling in outrageous crowds and having the time of their lives. i think that blink were big enough, important enough, and have aged so gracefully that if they were gone, there will still be an audience in the meantime. my point about the legacy is that i can live without the postscript of the skiba era... it's just an unnecessary chapter. TLDR: as time goes on, it's clear to me that despite tom's grievances, he should be here. the band is a marriage of he and mark's sensibilities, and a celebration of what they loved, and their friendship and history. without him, there's a lack of soul present. 9 1 1
thongrider
I don't get why people expected a coherent Blink when Tom's main prioroty was AVA. It's like voting for Trump and expecting a decent president. Shouldn't we be happy got anything at all from 09 to 2014?
Ghent
You act like Tom is some kind of viable asset to tap into. He remains a lost cause. Out of his mind, can't stay focused on one thing at a time, takes forever to deliver (if he delivers at all). Besides the music (what little we got), his time in blink post reunion was a manipulative farce and an embarrassment. It just doesn't appear like he will be returning to Earth any time soon, as far as his mental health goes. It's sad, but it is what it is. Tom in blink right now would be a joke.

prankerd14
Tom screwed mark and trav over for years, so they can do whatever they want in my eyes, release a dubstep album for all i care lol Nothing will tarnish their legacy musically wise, if its not your style or taste, just flip on enema or untitled and enjoy the good times
Nosferatu
Off topic but it would be hilarious hearing an AVA remix album by Mark. I still laugh at that Hallucinations remix.

This is the crux of everything. Blink is Mark and Tom, it really is as simple as that. Their chemistry, shared history, how they complement each others strengths and weaknesses. Unfortunately, their vision over what blink was became more disparate over time. Ultimately - Tom was selfish, disingenuous, petulant and childish. He forced Mark and Travis's hand by being so disrespectful and dysfunctional. Of course they want to continue doing what they love and have toiled for. However, that relationship is integral to what Blink is, in fact, it's the essence of blink. Of course Blink are doing commerically well, and I think some good music has come out of this era (Cynical, San Diego, Pin The Grenade) , which everyone has a right to enjoy or feel however they feel about it. To me though , the defining word of this era is hollow. The defining word of the reunion era is dysfunction (yet it did produce a genuine reunion tour and a disjointed LP and EP, which had some fantastic moments). Mark and Tom's chemistry/relationship, even at its weakest, still produced relevant, genuine and memorable songs - as well as some clangers. TLDR : Blink = Mark and Tom - However, Tom forced Mark and Travis's hand, and they made their best of a shitty situation
Mard_Smartiest_Blinkfan
lol that guy who got it first is such a wuss. if he wanted to have been rock n roll, he would have without hesitation slamed that bass against the concret mark was prob real disappointed that he didn't actualy do that
vic vinegar
The only people I've ever heard who actually regard blink-183 as part of blink's true legacy are either Alk3 fans or they post on here. Like almost every other fan i talk to jumped overboard with Tom.

Honestly blink occasionally pops up in my conversations with people and ever since Cali came out it's literally the same story, "blink isn't blink without Tom." swells17
what do you guys think will happen when tom dOes finally come back? (which he's said he would love too one day in multiple interviews). Does Skiba just get the boot? 4 man lineup? Imagine a song with Tom and Skiba tossing lyrics back and forth lol
Feeling_This_1
If Tom ever comes back, I'm going to heckle him during the concert. I'll yell things at him from the front row. Stuff like "Ava sucks!", "Stop Yodeling." Only if he's not performing well. It might be best for him, all those TTS yesmen are getting him nowhere.

I really doubt he'll come back though, or that they would take him back. I'm not sure they really should! I mean, they can still be friends (maybe? And I just read this thought made somewhere), but I don't think Mark or Travis could trust Tom in the band again. I dunno!! It's too depressing. I'm stepping out of this conversation now.
