alex_dept.
Enema and California are both pop-punk albums but there's such a gap between them. Enema has such a stylish, thought-out sound without any repetition and unnecessary elements, it's clever and it's minimalistic while California is a disgrace

But the 2 albums are definitely leagues apart. Enema is full of catchy, riff filled, unique songs whereas California falls under the tag of generic pop punk for the most part with flashes of greatness. But Enema had Delonge in his prime, California is a new era of Blink, a band that had been pretty much forgotten by everyone that wasn't a hardcore fan like us. Was always gonna be a struggle, but to say it's a disgrace is pretty far from the mark in my opinion.
zzzz
A disgrace...LOL. Look at all these people who came out to watch this disgrace of a band, whose album flopped miserably! California is TRASH but 10,000 people are screaming every word to BTD/SOOHM/Cynical/Sober! No Tom no Blink! Skiba sucks at guitar! Gosh they look so miserable!

They had some kind of magic on that album.

Elisa
I was listening to California on my way home tonight and I have to admit that as a work is quite cohesive; the 3 new songs are too frankensteined and I'm afraid the deluxe edition will be a disaster (for some of us). For some reason I keep going back to Misery every once in a while though, the song per se is bland, the hooks are too simple and rushed in and anyone could have come up with that melody (I feel the same about the chorus of 6/8) but there's that bridge and I have to listen to it on repeat. Probably the only time where the whoa-oh-ohs kinda make sense is on the prelude of the bridge.

More Jan You Know
What does a picture of a crowd prove, at all? Nobody goes to a concert to stand with a thinking pose and criticize the band
vic vinegar
Over 70% of the crowd doesn't know the difference between Matt and Tom so...

alex_dept.
If many people like something it doesn't mean it's good, of course a lot of people enjoy California, but a lof of people have no taste and fail to acknowledge the fact that 90% of California is recycled generic shit. Because it's enough for them. But for me it's not enough and I don't enjoy it. I don't listen to Four Years Strong, ADTR, Wonder Years, Man Overboard, NFG, Sum 41, Green Day, Bowling for Soup, Rise Against, Offspring and other generic pop-punk shit because the genre itself is generic and boring, formulaic. I don't like pop-punk at all, I used to when I was 15. But Blink stayed with me and I haven't stopped enjoying them because they were always so much more than pop-punk, the music was much smarter, however not many people could recognise it - there were people who thought that they were as great as other popular pop-punk bands and there were critics who thought they were as shitty as other pop-punk bands, but I always fell into the category of people who understood the difference, they understood that Tom wouldn't leave a blink song without a tiny riff or interesting vocal change. And now it is something Blink lost. Now they fall into this generic category I never wanted them to fall. And it really disappoints me, I believe that people who like California never really understood what blink was about, I don't even think that Travis understands because it doesn't matter for him if the part has only rhythm guitar or rhythm guitar and a solo guitar. He just smashes his drums and flies with them around the venues and thinks it's all people need, Maybe, but not me. But I believe that Mark understands the difference because he actually wrote a lot of guitar, and he understands that Untitled and +44 were a lot more challenging for a generic listener and he just chooses money. No wonder there a lot of people at their concerts. This is what they aimed for. Nickelback or Linkin Park also have a lot of people at their concerts, and Imagine Dragons, Chainsmokers, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran. SO all of those artists are great now, aren't they?
2point5
I stopped reading when you said a lot of people have no taste. If you start with a bullshit statement like that then there's no reason to continue.
Neal
a lot of people have a different taste than you... but on everything else you wrote, i completely agree. How travis can classify california as a mix between untitled and enema just makes me speechless....
Nasa
I think music taste is entirely subjective. There's no such thing as objectively good music. I think California sucks but who am I to say that therefore it should suck for everyone?

Taste is subjective, but I always have a problem thinking about the possibility of existing good and bad music. The thing is the scale that exist in between. I mean, I'm not sure this or this can be any good. And nope, I'm not joking.
