Honestly maybe that band could really use some good drama to shake up their dynamics. They've gotten so stale and boring.  Last truly decent album was 21st Century Breakdown and that was just a much weaker rehash of American Idiot.  I used to love Green Day, they still put on a great live show, but I really don't feel like they can write great new music anymore.

Haha it's funny how things can be different for people. As an example, for me, 21CB was where they got it right 😂

They should have gone for Alex Gaskarth especially if they were gonna make that bubble gum rock like California and nine. Ridiculous really when you think about it, they add Skiba and proceed to make two pop albums 😂 when he joined I was excited because I thought we’d get some dark raw sounding shit but we end up with Selena Gomez shite

Hell no , Skiba is alot better than that douche

I personally don’t think the drama has helped blink writing great new music either but that’s just my opinion. It helps keeping them interesting though

Didn't say it did.  I wasn't talking about blink at that point.  I was talking about what might be good for Green Day.  The band is just a hollow husk of it's former self with no signs of doing anything to change that. They need something to reinvigorate that band.  It doesn't have to be drama, but they need to do something cuz whatever music-writing magic they used to have is long gone and dried up.

But I didn't say 21CB was bad.  It's a fine album, like legit their last album that I would say is decent that I ever revisit.  But let's be real, it's also a bit of a phoned in album, a repeat of the album they did before that was fine in it's own right, but when measured against the album before it, you see a band that was repeating itself with a lesser take on the album right before it.  Which is a stance I wouldn't fault others from having for Take Off Your Pants and Jacket compared to Enema before it.   The caveat there being though that I feel like they still managed to follow up TOYPAJ with their best album yet.  While I don't think Green Day has done anything better (or even as good) as American Idiot since they released that album.

I’ve always thought the big difference with Green Day and blink is the GD guys really are best friends through and through so it is still “fun” and less “business”.  It doesn’t come across in stage banter, videos etc but thats why the side projects they’ve done they’ve done together ie. The Network, Foxboro Hot Tubs, even Pinhead Gunpowder, Longshot, Oakland Coffee Co.  And they are all extremely supportive of one another when doing so.

That’s always where the break imo has been is there’s full transparency on the vision in the Green Day camp with all 3 guys knowing full well that their bread and butter is GD but wanna go try something different it seems like it’s a collective “cool let’s do it!”

Blinks side stuff has always seemed to take away from the band from a personal stand point with the weird jealousy and awkwardness of it all.  And part of blinks  charm is the idea that they all are best friends (more importantly Mark and Tom) when who they’ve grown up to be just isn’t the same as when they were in their 20s but they still want to reap the benefits and success of what they built.

I don't think you really read or understood what I was saying.

It’s probably as simple as Skiba not knowing what’s going on because none of them know what’s going on. You’d think they’d be close enough with him that he would know enough not to make that post…but humans.

They aren’t officially in studio and Matt is on tour. I doubt there is much more to the story or we’d be getting whispers.

You have to admire the Tombots a little. This is probably the 15th time since 2015 that they’ve been adamant Skiba is out of the band and Tom is rejoining. Even though they’ve been wrong every other time they still always remain so confident that this time it’s for real.

To the stars gentlemen. To the stars…🫡

I don’t think Tom’s back, not really any real evidence of it and he still talks like he has zero interest in interviews though it’s fun to joke about here because there’s literally nothing else. I do think everyone in this band has always been a bit of an ass hole and we’re seeing it on display here. Wouldn’t have gotten the 20 years of drama from this band if Tom was just a sole joker villain.

woah. calm down, notnow. calm down.

While you've obviously spent more time with Mark than the rest of us, it's not really that much more in the grand scheme of things, so I don't know that your read of him necessarily holds more weight than anyone else's.

It’s almost like one of their main song writers is gone lol

Coping with what exactly?

Nothing against Skiba, he can stay, but I want Tom back. Win win for me 🤷‍♂️

I'd like to see Tom back too. Mostly bc travis now can fly I might have a chance to actually see them live at least once in my life. AVA will not release anything new until at least 2029 anyways and Matt would go back full time to Trio which would mean more music there. Win win!

BUT, I'd like a followup to NINE with Matt before this happens
