I'm sure you've already seen this, Byron Mackin (Pennywise) playing Carousel with blink

Yes! Thank you for this memory! I forgot about this. If I’m not mistaken, there were other drummers that filled in this day including Brooks Wackerman. And Travis was in the back watching. Anyone know why he didn’t play that day?

Yes, Brooks Wackerman and Josh Freese too! Basically all the best punk rock drummers filling in for Travis who couldn’t play because he had food poisoning.

Ah, very interesting! I never heard why he sat out that show since he was sitting right there and didn’t appear to be injured. Thanks for that little nugget!

And then funny coincidence (back in 1996, on the Warped Tour) Scott filled in for the last song "Bro Hymn" with Pennywise. There's footage of this somewhere on Youtube but I can't find it for some reason

I know the show for sure, it's this date : Warped Tour 1996

Cocoa Expo in Cocoa FL. 8.9.1996

The reason I can't find that live show is because the youtuber that uploaded the Pennywise set deleted the account ... Bummer ...

But Scott playing Bro Hymn on drums definitely happened, you have my word!!!

Whenever I see Scott in these videos, the first thing I notice is his comfort zone being pushed. His silence tends to be loud.

In that clip:  Scott is 19 turning 20.  Tom 22.  Mark 26.  Scott's surrounded by not one, but two of the most outgoing frontmen in existence.

I give him props for hanging in in there.

And then to be replaced by the best drummer in the genre.. fuck lol.

As for his drumming, it's unfair to rate him due to how young he was.  But always a fun switch putting his tracks on.  "Old school" blink to me has always meant "Scott"

Scott gets so much criticism and hate from all those Blink fanpages on Instagram, it's insane. I always respected Scott because I started playing drums watching those old school shows.

Also Scott joined Blink when he was only 14!!! he's the youngest one in the band!

Being a timid and shy person in a band also doesn't necessarily means that you are left out just that you stand out

This is the first ever interview I watched of the band on Youtube

Been listening to Buddha, Cheshire Cat, and Dude Ranch lately and one thing that strikes me as unique to this era is their use of vocal harmonies. Mark often provides harmonies on a lot of the songs. They sound like what the Beach Boys would sound like as a skate punk band with low production. I’d love to hear current Blink use harmonies more in their new stuff, it works so well for them.

Yea I always thought they were similar to a modern day beach boys (atleast Enema era) albeit with a lot less vocal skill lol

I just came here to post how I just found out Rubin interviewed Travis. Ugh. Do you realize how epic it would be if he produced their next album? No more Feldmann, no more Travis (producing). Make it happen!!!

This is fun, I haven't heard a full band history run through like this in a while.

I'd be very intrigued by that, and I think it would actually be a pretty cool match... Rubin's approach is pretty much all philosophical, he admittedly doesn't even know anything about engineering, so he lets the professionals do their jobs while he focuses on helping the band open up creatively and embrace the things that make them THEM.

That's a big reason why he has so much success with older artists with long careers. He doesn't micromanage or try to shape their music, he just tries to facilitate the things they already know how to do so well and use that as a foundation to feel creatively open. That could make for a really interesting Blink album I think, IF they were on the same wavelength.

His approach isn't for everybody, but I could imagine the current version of Blink actually being pretty into it... They clearly don't want to relinquish creative control ever again, but having a guru of the industry shepherding them through the writing process and hyping up their confidence and creativity levels could be pretty rad.

i think aaron is a great producer. Production-wise, lifeforms absolutely destroys OMT. let Aaron run the sessions, and give it to mix to someone like Rich Costey .

I think Sober slaps and I don't care who knows it. It always transports me to fall 2016 and when I saw blink for the first time at DTE/Pine Knob.

There are quite a few bangers on California. I don’t think that album deserves the hate it gets at all. Especially not from people who shit on it because of Feldmann but at the same time praise OMT as if Travis’s production is any better lol. People like that bug me. And I was at that 2016 show. Right up front, closest I’ve ever been for a blink show. Also, I keep forgetting they changed it back to Pine Knob!

The go-to joke perfomers would do was calling it Pine Knob instead of DTE, but you're right with the name change. Now they can do an inverse of the joke. lol

I was a few rows back from stage left. Good show!
