Due to all the quarantining myself and the band have worked out how to each individually work on ideas and share filles back and forth. For software ease we're all using garageband and it's working surprisingly well. I came up with a verse / chorus I was quite proud of musically but I'm concerned because the chorus melody is reeeeeeally similar to Alk3's 'Continental' so I now have to rework it but the boys already love it. Its doing wonders for my creativity all this time at home.

I took tomorrow off work to work on music. I haven't had the chance to work on shit in a while. I'm glad I have a job but I would love to have free time.

Although I lost my job a while back, I’m actually really busy right now working on a three song EP for one client, and after that four songs that I think will be part of an upcoming album for another client.

Don’t really have time for my own stuff at the moment, but I already somewhat completed the songs for my own upcoming release as well. To say I’m having fun right now would be an understatement

I hear Blink 182 is hiring writers.

I recently did a songwriting challenge for myself. writing a new song every day for seven days. it went surprisingly well, I live streamed each song on my FB on the day just as proof, and I'm doing a stream friday of all the songs. might bounce it so i can upload it to youtube incase anyone is curious. I thought they'd be samey songs or I'd have nothing to say but they came out okay. like they're mostly COVID related but still all fairly individual, I'm quite proud of that.

Last night I sat in front of my computer for hours on 911tabs with my guitar and learned old songs I used to love. I haven't done that since high school and it was an absolute blast, probably going to do it again tonight. Just pick whatever song comes to mind and learn it.

Even before Corona I challenged myself to write one song a month. Now that's too little and I record old songs for kicks. Sometimes they turn out even worse than the old ones.

I'm finally making headway with music, what started as a single project back in December went through a cluster fuck and a half and through all the drama have morphed into two separate projects. One pop punk and the other a follow up album for the last band I had back in 2012. What's funny is the last band I had, The Abbreviators, was a pop punk project in itself and I've kind of abandoned that style for something different. I still had a bunch of pop punk ideas though and so they've been thrown to something I'm working on with a friend, he calls it String Lights. Personally, I hate the name but whatever.

Anyway, I'm about 9 songs in to each project, so 18 all together. String Lights is meant to be an EP so I'll only be using 7 of those but The Abbreviators is meant to be an LP and I'm thinking 13 songs for that.

I decided I'm just gonna have fun with it and see what I can do. Even thought about making a youtube channel to document the various recordings. I'm not sure if its worth the effort, seems a like a lot of work what will essentially end up being a vanity project.

String Lights is a dreadful name I agree, YouTube channel is gonna be a lot of work I imagine but you could run a blog or a social page for it if you wanted some way to document it all.

I finally picked up a DAW so I can do home recordings. I still need to grab an interface, a decent vocal mic and an external hard drive and I'll be well on my way to not having to rely on friends to cut demos.

Focusrite has great stuff for cheap pricing. Great for home recording!

What DAW did you get?

Looks great, UA is a great company that knows what they're doing. You can get away with cheaper stuff though with great results. Also, remember that this is thunderbolt 3.

But this interface looks great!

I checked my laptop to make sure it has thunderbolt 3 ports before picking it out. I'm just trying to reduce latency as much as I can.

This is the other one I was looking at as well.

I have a problem with keeping the mentality that the more expensive the product the better it is, especially when it comes to things I'm unfamiliar with using. I love recording but I'm a novice at best, so working on my own is daunting.

Remember that the latency isn't just the interfaces doing, it's more of a collaboration between the computer and interface.

I would rather recommend something like this rather than the zoom as you get a microphone and headphones in one bundle, The mic pre in this one isn't bad at all.  https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Scarlet2i2SG3--focusrite-scarlett-2i2-studio-3rd-gen-recording-bundle

I'll check it out! Thanks!

I've got a Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th generation, gonna buy a external hard drive for it so I don't have to save anything on the laptop's.
