IIHF ICE HOCKEY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Yeah it's always a big event in Finland. We have a shitty team though but almost always manage to make do with these no-name teams because of the "system".

Watching the UK play for the first time in decades should be entertaining. Also looking forward to the Kakko-Hughes rivalry.

I’ve just been watching highlights mostly, I’m more interested in the NHL playoffs since the World Championship isn’t truly a best-vs-best event. I saw Pettersson has been making ridiculous plays and is being double shifted on both PP units since Sweden has no #2 centre.

Epic wins against Sweden & Russia despite both being loaded with NHL talent while we have nothing but Finnish league guys (and a few no-name NHLers); hell, Ovie makes a lot more in a year than the entire Finnish team combined. The Russians are already calling us out on playing "anti-hockey" and whatnot, as if we didn't control the game.

Well, hard work beats talent everyday in these kind of tournaments..

Canada didn't even assemble a very talented roster when you consider who they had available (McDavid, Crosby, Stamkos, Tavares, Seguin, Benn, Subban, Weber, etc.). Still a surprise to see Finland win, and good for them. But the only international tournaments that really matter, in terms of best-on-best talent, are the NHL affiliated Olympics and the World Junior Championship.

Great win, although the Finns made it a pain to watch for the last 15 minutes or so. I live in an apartment that has a view of the city on the horizon (about 2 miles away) and it was dead silent from around 7pm to midnight. Then at midnight sounds of traffic got really loud as people started their (drunken) migration toward the town square.
