I’m with ya. I used to write the whole song off when I was younger because of how much I disliked the intro so much.  As I grew Up I got past it and love the song but damn that intro is a slog to get past.

tom's just noodling around a major scale as usual for both (i think it's A; don't have my guitar handy). although i could see some being annoyed the way he wraps around it and hits the high C# note (if i remember) twice at the end each time for the slower riff. it sounds like "nagging" if that makes sense.

but to be fair, the faster riff resolves to the high C# too. he's just running the scale faster (and less creatively, actually) so we're really splitting hairs here.

i like the low bass chords on the grand piano and tom's harmonics on the "i'm sorry i'm sorry" start-of-the-last chorus / outro part. that's the neatest part of the song.

and again, again, again, it's blink's old friend I–V–vi–IV. never leaves their side...

that's the "nagging" two hits on the high C#. totally understand how it could grate on some people.
