"The band was in the dark the whole time. After many meetings between Hayley, her manager and the labels they decided to sign her to Atlantic Records. We didn't understand why Hayley was the only one signing the contract since we were told this was a 'band,' but we were too young to grasp all of this. ... Next thing we knew we were having a signing party for Hayley." I mean, it’s not pretty.. Yeah, I remember reading this post when it came out and the media coverage surrounding it. Josh wrote it, not Zac. I don’t think Josh’s recount or perspective on how the band developed as they signed and started making music is false or shouldn’t be taken seriously. He was there and we weren’t. But considering it was an emotionally charged post written and shared after Paramore announced the Farro Bros were leaving (and that announcement warranted a response), I’ve wondered how much of it is accurate (even though his wife verified it) and mainly intended to spite Hayley. I get the motivation behind it due to all the frustration that seems to have built up over the years, but that’s important to think about when considering the context of Josh’s post. The post aside, I think every band that signs to a major label gets manufactured and marketed to an extent because that’s the music industry. But to me re: the idea of being “completely manufactured,” there’s a difference between what happens as the band is forming and what happens after they sign to a label. The former hasn’t read to me as manufactured as far as Paramore goes—the latter does at times (Hayley being the band member the general public knows, her being the band’s central identity, etc). I know I’m nitpicking, hahaha. But I find the distinction important because there are criticisms of Paramore’s identity I see the merit behind and others I put less stock into due to the band’s history / the chain of events. 1 Quote

I’m not saying it’s bad or anything or an invalid music experience—I just hadn’t heard of it as a reason before for someone to struggle to enjoy music, that’s all! Manufactured bro, it’s been admitted just let it be. I could give a fuck less about that garbage band Quote

Hahaha wow, so even a member of the band fully admits it, like I said, but you’re gonna claim he’s wrong and that you’re right? Yup, that’s when I know to stop even trying to use logic and facts with someone. MANUFACTURED. Oh and they suck Quote

No diss toward Davey whatsoever because he admits as much, but this is a common thought I have when he gives his music opinions haha. He definitely looks at things from his own unique angle that I rarely quite understand. 3 Quote

While their beginnings weren't the typical "friends made a band" scenario they still had a long career as a group and wrote their own music, they're not what you're claiming they are - you just don't like them because they came out with a poppier sound and that's fine. 1 Quote

And I’m not knocking anybody for liking them. My brother loved them for a long time. I’m just saying they were manufactured and some people seem to be in denial about it. Like I said, I don’t care if that doesn’t bother someone else- it just turns me off....but don’t sit here and try to spin the truth...like NASA was trying to do. Quote

This is my fault lol. But Paramore is as much manufactured as blink is, and as every damn artist that signs to a major label. He never meant manufactured as in boyband style in his blog post, he clearly stated that they started the band, met Hayley later on and asked her to join. I can imagine the bad blood though being it's their band and someone comes in and take over everything and it ends up being her show, but I still think it's stupid to whine about that as well. If it hadn't been for Hayley (and Hayleys parents) he would still play clubs for 12-50 people just like the rest of us 2 Quote

Sure, it's cool if they do, but what it all comes down to is that a good song is a good song no matter who wrote it. To me at least. It's just music. I mean, i put BSB's Millennium on my perfect albums list, knowing damn well that Max Martin probably wrote 80% of that album. What it all comes down to is that if you like the music it really shouldn't matter who wrote it. imo Quote

Most of the music I connect with is about the meaning to the songs, if they're disingenuous or someone else's words it genuinely ruins or taints the music for me. 4 1 Quote

We were just having a discussion. and yeah, I can't imagine how the brothers felt. Paramore's original "the Farro bros are leaving" post + all the posts that came afterward seemed like a huge mess of miscommunication on the outside, so on the inside it was probably even worse. i wasn't a fan of Paramore at the time, but my friends were, so it was a hot topic, haha. apparently as of 2016 Josh is on good terms with them though, so when it comes to their personal lives that's good to hear. 1 Quote

My wife listens to a lot more modern pop than me and nearly every time we're in the car listening I have to avoid repeating myself by commenting on how I just don't get it. I have no idea who wrote it, what the message even is, and most of it is just a loop repeated for 90% of the song. I get why people enjoy it and yet it still confuses me haha 2 1 Quote
