Just a thought on the sticker one - if Kung Fu had the original masterings, and we know the Buddha Promo tape has a similar sticker, could Kung Fu have produced the sticker ones prior to the CD release?

I had a similar thought and discussed this with @daveyjones, since those white tape stickers are about as generic and common as it gets we don’t think it’s wise to assume any correlation.

Also the fonts don’t match and if Kung Fu owned Buddha at that point I don’t think they’d put “Filter Records” on the tape still.

My white label copy is numbered at the top too… just would like to have a definitive answer on real vs fake! I think I’ve seen at least one other white label with numbered tops - so at least its consistent

Interesting, wonder if that is a model number of the cassette case or what? Not sure, but will keep an eye out!

I come bearing a purple j-card Buddha tape. I just got this today… Some thoughts!

I believe this exact j-card/tape is already included in @Ry-Bread’s original post, because the person I bought it from sent me an identical photo. Here it is.

And here are my photos

Small observations: The pink tracklisting section on these seem to match @daveyjones' tape/the tapes with the full colour version of this photo. A somewhat dotted line above the track names (instead of a solid line) and a more squashed ‘Filter Records’. Interesting that this section is different but similar across versions.

And it looks like it got wet at some point where it says “super fun extra bonus track”, but the paper itself doesn’t seem affected at all in person. It looks like this is true of the other purple j-cards Ry has posted before. Same marks.

Anyway, just thinking out loud. If nothing else, at least there are more images now! Thanks @Ry-Bread @daveyjones and everyone else for the info gathered here already!

lovely! it's impossible to tell with the J if they are second-gen or not, being a color copy. is the lyric sheet on actual lavender paper? the cassette itself appears 100% legit. congrats on this wonderful find!

Hey guys, I've been a long time Blink fan but haven't kept up with them much lately. I used to collect back in the 90's and early 2000's but when they broke up my interest sorta waned. Found this site while I was doing a search on the old Buddha demo? tapes as I just came across some of my old collection while cleaning up. I've got a few versions as well as some of the original art for it. Was just seeing if anyone else has any parts of it too. I also got 1 of them signed by Mark when he was touring with +44 and I got to ask him about it.

Looking through this thread, from my research and items I have obtained over the years, I believe the white label tape is legit. Mine has the same numbers and markings etc as the ones posted here. I also have the first one with the writing directly on the tape itself.

i was a big fan from 95 through 98. kept up sporadically since. i have an original buddhaflyswatter, and demo #2.

the only way to confirm an analog recording is to rip the white label buddha tape to WAV and look at the spectrals. and even then, it could be an analog dub.

the thing that leads me to think the white label is fake is that the typography is completely different from that on the original black/clear cassette.

I really had no idea of how collectible this cassette would be but I’ve kept it since the day I bought it, and it’s mostly been hanging around in a box all of these years. I dug up an old, rare sublime cassette, and in my search found this too, it’s the black with white letters version. I bought this right from the hands of the band selling them and have kept it ever since. I also have photos from the show that I took. Blink was the opening band, and Unwritten Law was the headliner. Cool reading all of the history here. I can post pics of the cassette if anyone is interested.
