Biased pick for the Finch song as this music video reminds me why I never really liked MCR - Cure wannabes. Finch is more genuine to me. 1

They are a bit like what American Idiot is to Pop Punk. 1
Elisa Posted March 29, 2022 Posted March 29, 2022 Ignore the fanbase. My Chemical Romance should be considered real emo though, specifically because of their first album (Bullets) which meets all criteria of usual real emo groups. Then yeah, they just became a rock band.

In the prime of this era it was a label we all avoided. "emo" was a term that was made fun of, even by people listening to what was later considered classic 2000s emo music. I might cry myself to sleep listening to it, but you better not fucking call it emo. 5

I feel like MCR, I Miss You, and American Idiot Billie Joe contributed to this scene altogether. I never wanted to join in until Tom did the one eyed hair thing. But yes MCR almost was more specific and could hold the anti blink/green Day crowd as well. Or moreso anti earlier blink, but I miss you is okay, and green Day is less offensive but MCR is our savior and Underoath is our hardcore black sweater white font hot topic crew. MCR is hot topic forerunners to me. I never jumped ship because of Helena/Not Okay though.. They were good enough songs. Welcome to the Black Parade is when I jumped ship altogether. Hate that song and dance. 1

He asked me if I knew what colour Gerard Way's hair was currently and I said I had no idea. He then explained that he had a bet with his friend and I remembered that there were a bunch of scene kids near the front row who all had their hair dyed red, so I told him that and said red seemed like a good guess. A few minutes later, MCR came on and, sure enough, Gerard's hair was red and the guy high-fived me. ? 2

Emo was a slur, but have no problem labeling it that proudly now and enjoying the throwbacks. I can see why every other friend's dad was a dick about this music though and we really would have probably done better without it sulking in our misery. 1
