Jan Mortensen Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Diddy are you being serious right now? Boils down to effort? Was old Tom this world class singer or something we missed. 2 Quote

Plenty of singers who are older and lived way harder lifestyles have maintained their voices for a lot longer. Quote

Ghent Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Did Tom’s voice suddenly change or did he just suddenly become a giant douche bag? I’m hoping for the latter because you can recover from a douche bag stage, even if it lasts 15 years. Doubt your voice can revert to a previous state. I don’t care so much about his voice. I’d just like him to try harder and have some respect for blink again instead of treating like a joke. It can have jokes, but shouldn’t be a joke. 2 Quote

Exactly….this voice or that voice…there’s something that you can always look at and judge…and it’s effort….he hasn’t tried since 2001 Quote

We’ve talked about it a million times before, but he sounded like shit through most of that Untitled tour too. It was sped up and energetic as fuck but his singing was shit, even back then. I’m not sure I buy that his voice totally changed. He started popping pills and acting like an ass, which made him behave and sound different on stage. 1 Quote

He changed how he wanted to sing, he thinks the AVA voice is more respectable and serious. His talking voice literally sounds the same. It boils down to effort, and you’re wrong Sure, that’s why half the songs on that album still have his “blink” voice and then nothing else after that does ever again. There’s no way he thinks singing All The Small Things like a wounded animal sounds “more respectable and serious” lol 1 Quote

We’re dealing with a guy who literally thinks all religions on Earth represent aliens fighting in space or some shit. I wouldn’t put anything past him Quote
_Bagel Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 I thought his voice got fucked because he always sang/strained through his throat? In that last AVA tour, he sounded a lot better (for Tom) - if he has that level of performance, plus the banter, I'd be a very happy man. It's weird, though, it's like I can't really imagine them making songs together again. Performing, yes - writing, idk. They seem to be so far removed now 2 Quote
Ghent Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Tom can still write catchy good stuff, but he’s been surrounded by yes-men minions for way too long. The fanboy in me hopes he can develop a vibe with Mark again that keeps him humble without threatening his ego. He needs to play off someone else and accept that not every idea he has is going to change the world. 3 Quote
Pussay Patrol Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 i want em to write some pop punky/The Cure sounding album, not use a feldmann style producer or any external writers (a more hands off producer is fine) and a world tour with travis so I can finally actually see them with him there is that too much to ask for? probably 1 Quote

I think more effort would help but it will never get to where it was for a number of reasons, mainly because Jerry Finn’s magic is gone, and singing to relatively high pitch (to teenage anthems to boot) can’t be easy to maintain long term. 1 Quote
Jan Mortensen Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 How unaware can you fucking be Diddy. On a music board, and you haven't noticed that singer's voices change over time, especially over 20 years? They aren't singing R&B and Gospel. Also, it's Tom Delonge. What on earth would make him think he needs to meet with a vocal coach in his 20s to protect his raspy teenage voice for the masses for the long-term. Quote
Kay Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Tom’s nasal singing wasn’t professional and probably caused damage over time, especially with the lifestyle he was living for a while. I 1000% believe his voice changed and can’t go back. The idea that someone with forcibly change in a different way, that sounds fucking awful, and would stick to it for almost 20 years is frankly fucking stupid. Fuck, listen to early Alk3 and then IITC Alk3. Matt’s voice is a lot different now, his gravel is barely there, his voice is deeper. voices fucking change especially if you’re pushing yourself on tours. None of these dudes grew up learning how to take care of their voices and they all performed at fucking arenas for years. 2 Quote
petros Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 The thing is Liam Gallagher totally ruined his voice by screaming every night in the 90s through his throat with bad posture and then in the 00s it was sad how bad he sounded but managed to make a comeback and recover his voice. So probably if Tom cared he could do something about it but the dude doesn't give a shit about being a good musician anymore for years now. 1 Quote
Rickay Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Really hope we get some new music quickly. Quote
Jan Mortensen Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 What voice are we recovering?? Are we talking about the same Tom Delonge? Quote
