He could stand there and look cuter while his assistant pushed play on his lap top tho. But he would NEVER command a crowd with his actual playing. Green Day would have made it regardless of producer, because they could PLAY. Without Jerry Finn, you and I wouldn’t be here bitching back n forth because none of us would know who Tom Delonge is Have you considered having sex with a lady? 1 1 Quote

I’ll hear all kinds of empty and dumb retorts like this because all of you know I’m right, or you’re just a Milli Vanilli type dude. Which is ok. How many pair of Macbeths do you own? And have you invested in To The Stars lately? 1 Quote
Electrical Substation Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 Go watch Up All Night from the greatly toted (among this board) SA shows and tell me Toms actually playing lmfao. Every time the heavy riff comes in it’s heavy and perfect, because he isn’t playing it. Not a backing track, it is the track. #trash 1 1 1 Quote

I watched the show everyone told me To watch. Tom was actually playing for the first 3-4 songs then once Up All Night rolled around it was clear things were going south. He’s not playing the main riff that you hear, at any point during the song. I know it gets worse from there for every song that was recorded after enema so I turned it off. Stay in denial tho! 1 Quote

I probably wouldn't have found Dude Ranch if I didnt hear the lesser later albums. On the other hand, I doubt we'd hear of Finn if not for Green Day. 1 Quote

The only backing tracks I hear on that song are these: I finally watched the Brazil show this weekend and in Up All Night you can tell it's Tom playing the main riff because it's different every time he plays it. In the past UAN always sounded like a mess live, but I think the autotune they're using now is what makes the song finally sound good at the shows. 2 1 Quote
Elisa Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 Good Riddance in those two videos always gets me, but I think Green Day was at their best in the 90s in terms of raw performance. They were great but not 100% great and thus still genuine. Now Billie Joe may have gotten even better as a singer (a lot of people underestimate how skilled of a live singer he is), but their shows are just too polished and it feels like being at a circus. They're still one of the most solid live bands in the world, but all the extra stupid stuff they do instead of just playing music is so irritating. They turned their songs Shout and King For A Day into two 15 minute long songs, Billie Joe screams "I say ehhh ohhh" every two seconds, plus a lot of other repetitive stuff in general. I've seen Green Day 5 times through they years and I managed to catch a lot of songs they usually don't play live (Burnout, Coming Clean, Letterbomb, Going To Pasalacqua, Scattered, Jaded etc.) so I'm done with their shows now. Unless they decide to do a Warning, Nimrod or Insommiac anniversary tour. In that case, I'd probably go to hear those songs. 6 1 Quote

This is what made me stop going to green day shows. It just kills the momentum of the entire show. Last time me and a group of mates saw them, it was a festival and they were headliners so end of a long day (we didn’t go just for green day), we got bored as fuck and just left. i want to see them play and sing not ehhhhhh ohhhh the crowd all the time. Saw 4 songs in like 45 minutes or some shit. 4 1 Quote
