Personally I don't really care to hear any skiba era songs with Tom singing. They have enough Tom songs they don't need Cali/Nine era. I'm not expecting any Skiba era songs, but I really would like, if nothing else, for Bored to Death to stick around for the live shows. Heck, I'll say it, it's a better song than Edging. Beethoven
Bored to Death is boring and super slow. There I said it. When's the last time anyone's listened to it? It was fun when it came out, good bridge and all, but didn't age well. Edging will end up being the better song.
NotNow
Even if up all night is terrible live, I don’t think it will leave the set because 1. Tom really likes it and 2. Even if we don’t care for it, the song will always have major historical significance for the band.
hammerpipe
I don’t know why, but I feel like this album is going to be good. Like, really fucking good. The three of them back together again, taking their time crafting one for the ages. Gearing up for the biggest tour of their careers. I hope my feeling is on point. 5
NotNow
Also I stand by that even if they’re playing Coachella, new music isn’t coming yet. End of month still for single. 1

Just the fact that they've recorded together is a huge reason to be hopeful.

Once we get more music from them, edging will not age well. It's such a bleh song. 2 2

Russel Coight
Bored to death is a great song. Even if we don’t get new music this week shit is still ramping up and it’s time to get hyped. 3 1

This can be a good thing though. Bored to Death ended up being one of the better songs and every song followed its same formula which got super old quick. As in, it got us excited, and then many of us were let down by what followed. Edging feels like a total wildcard. It's not the best song ever, which means our expectations are not as high now. I really think Edging will sound better (aka age well) once the whole album is out because it's just a fun filler song then instead of a massive major single omg and never living up to it. We will see FRIDAY though.

I know they got to get playlists and artwork and shit organised but surely that would take a day max. Why do bands need to let them know about releases they’re keeping a secret from everyone else so early?

They can be a pain in the ass for small bands and musicians but I can’t see adding music to spotify or the like being a big deal for big names. I would assume the time is needed so the platforms can make the appropriate preparations for pushing the new releases and legal business. I don’t know though, I’m talking out of my ass.

They can do damn near immediate distro and playlist placement if it’s a major label and major artist

We will see FRIDAY though. Could be good sure, but for me Bored to Death has aged wonderfully and is still a much better song than Edging. Heck, Edging might be the weakest lead single from the band aside from Blame It on My Youth. Otherwise: Dammit, What's My Age Again, Man Overboard (does that count? ), The Rock Show, Feeling This, even Up all Night are all much better lead singles to get you amped for their respective albums than Edging is. Heck if it counts, M&Ms is even a better lead single. I'm hoping Edging is just one of the weakest songs on the album. Perhaps it's because it's such a meh song to me is part of why I'm not losing sleep over any possible delay on the album's release.
Beethoven
I feel like Edging is going over people's heads. It's an intentional B song. Intentional B songs are good, because they aren't meant to be great. Think Easy Target. 1

The song is just weak at best and it won’t stand the test of time like you foolishly suggested in a comment above
