You’d be hard pressed to find anything that ISN’T going to end human existence. Eventually someone will be right, I suppose … or not. I don’t know, I’m not worried about it.

People who dismiss alarmists probably don’t understand the logic behind something like compound interest and exponential growth

Yeah, AI will get better as more people use it and "it" learns. Seems obvious?

At the current juncture it's basically just skimming Google results and winging it with fancy grammatical structuring that is annoying to read and many times inaccurate/weird.

When's this new song coming out? I'm feeling pretty hyped but I feel like I'm about to drop off again soon.

It HAS to be this week, with all the posters popping up, I'd be shocked we we went another week with nothing.

It always overstates the obvious. AI isn’t very good at subtlety.

We haven't even developed something that can reliably drive a vehicle. We are so far off from the AI alarmist doomsday fantasies it's not worth caring about if you're not directly involved.

I'd stick with something measurable and preventable like climate change if I was going for some existential anxiety.

Funny you mention that... Saw this on the blink-182 reddit earlier:

That being said, as someone who is visually impaired (and can't drive) I look forward to the days of self driving cars actually being functional for people like me.

I read that book Hot Zone in 8th or 9th grade and I’ve been freaked out about viruses ever since.

I agree, right now there doesn’t appear to be cause for concern.

However, there is no way I trust tech companies like FB and Google to do the right thing. There also will likely be a tipping point that AI reaches where it’s too late to dial it back. Who fucking knows what they’re doing behind closed doors, but based on how they designed social media, I’m pretty cynical that they develop AI responsibly. Then there’s also the arms race with China that complicates it more.

Seems like Friday is a good bet, anything sooner would be a cool bonus

I think the only thing wed get sooner is a teaser video with a longer clip of the song saying "Coming Friday" or some shit like that.

I choose to perpetually worry about existential threats equally and constantly :)

Idk tho.  Computers weren't even a thing to the public in the 90s, we had dial-up internet and gigantic dinosaur sized computers in the 2000s, now we have computers at our fingertips that can do everything.

That would mean iffy AI, then we have good AI taking over many jobs and human needs, then we have an entire AI takeover/Skynet end of humanity altogether would be the same trajectory.

It's not that far off to be a bit worried about it when we went from no computers to smart phones in the span of 20 years.
