Anyone can comment on the production style (assuming they have legitimate points about how it sounds). Are you really trying to criticize people who subjectively interpret and/or criticize art differently than you do? If so, this kind of makes you look like a retarded fanboy

No I'm criticizing people who act like they know more about producing and mixing than people who are professionals doing it for a living at the highest level.

I see, that’s a bit more reasonable but still not a great argument as it’s basically solely premised on an appeal to authority based on people you know barely anything about, like that Thrasher guy Travis works with. I wouldn’t be surprised if some people on here did know a lot about production given how 90% of it is digital now. I also wouldn’t be shocked if this board has had posters that are better guitar/bass players than Tom and Mark.

Yeah I mean, it's not like we're all high school amateurs here commenting on stuff we know nothing about. It's easy to hear differences between the classic Blink albums and the more recent releases. I think at least a few people here have played in bands and recorded albums and have plenty of experience with this stuff as well. We're all adults here at this point haha. You don't have to agree with everyone's critiques, but I don't think we have to just stfu either. Part of the fun is dissecting their artistic choices sometimes!

To me, there's a difference between respecting a band's evolution or artistic choices that might be unusual (BCR, Untitled, +44) vs. wondering if a band is taking the easy way out by making something that sounds cheap or mass-produced (Cali, Deluxe, Nine).

With a band like Blink, I expect more BECAUSE of their expertise and limitless resources. All of their albums SHOULD sound incredible, whether they're playing pop punk or acoustic ballads or spacey anthems or new wavey indie rock or whatever, because they have the luxury of making anything they could possibly want. It's a choice whether to allow the autotuned vocals to warble or to make sure they sound natural, or whether to take some extra time to set up and mic amp or allow the guitars to sound like a digital MIDI track, or whether to sample a single snare sound to paste onto every hit throughout the song or allow some dynamics and imperfections, etc.

Anyway, Edging didn't sound as bland as California and Nine to me, some people lightly criticized it because the drums were overpowering the guitars, no biggie. I expect that the album will have more thought and care behind the production/mixing choices than a one-off single that was released in the middle of the process. And if not, we'll all dissect everything like we always do, but the songs themselves will be the most important part anyway.

God damn I'm tired of speculating, COME ON BLINK GIVE US SOMETHING ASAP haha

No matter what, there will be some audio doofs in here saying how weak the production is though. Acting like they could do better or know more about it. That's a tale as old as time

Nobody is saying they could do a better job. They’re saying blink could have done a better job, and gotten a better producer. These are facts, the production on Edging sucks and why would you not expect more of the same?

Pretty crazy how Faplord of blink-182 online noticed the production of Edging being such poor quality, but none of the professionals or even the band members themselves caught it!

Your take here is about as bad and prejudiced as Oliver is in the debate forum, great work.
