If Tom was on California and Feldmann wasn't producing or known of no one would be complaining about the production.  It's just another way for people to pile dirt onto that era of the band.

(yes this is a hypothetical)

I gotta disagree with this a bit, I’m not saying the production on it was bad at all. It just doesn’t fit my taste. It’s got a style of production that comes off plasticky to me. It’s why I don’t care for a lot of the modern pop punk bands, I feel like they’d all be improved if the edges were roughed up a bit.

It sounds a lot like TOYPAJ to me, which is my favorite sounding blink album. It's not quite the same, but as close as they've come to that sound since imo

I‘m on ghent with this. Just because i dont like the way its produced doesn’t mean there is something wrong with it or its produced badly.

i wouldnt try to discuss this with fap though.he can‘t wrap his head around the concept of personal preference vs objective quality

This is stuff people who prefer the production of toypaj to Cheshire Cat say.

They’re both polished, I’ll give you that but TOYPAJ has that graininess and saturation from the tape and I like those things. It’s less crisp and sharp. Does it make a difference on a grand scale? No. Would the average radio listener ever notice? Absolutely not. That what I’m saying though, it’s just personal preference and it’s something I notice. It didn’t kill the albums for me or anything, just something I’d prefer be different than how it was.

I promise, if the record comes out and it’s an over polished, plastic mess, I’ll be the first to bitch. Tom or not.

Yep! This is exactly what I tried saying earlier. It’s not bad production just cause you don’t like the style. Some people really struggle with this.

I think it’s a superficial point that does not really impact the disagreement though. I agree with you, but art is subjective, so if you say “I don’t like the method they did to achieve this because X”, it’s because it’s your personal preference as you don’t like the style. Like, you can apply your approach to anyone criticizing any form of art which really has the effect of trying to stifle discussion imo.

I think one of the main issues is that Blink’s production from California onwards (although Nine was a huge improvement) has been streamlined a lot based on moving towards digital programs. It’s not unique to Blink as it seems like most artists do this now. It just seems a bit lazier and less heart and soul go into the songs, like compare California to any Finn produced song where he spent hours reorganizing mics around Travis’ drum kit. That obsessive devotion is very noticeable, especially when you listen to a song hundreds of times.

I 100% prefer Finns production to anything we’ve gotten since. No contest.

Doesn’t mean what we have gotten is bad though. Just a different style.

It's a completely different story to say "I don't like the production because it's too glossy. I prefer a grittier more raw sound even on the poppier songs." I disagree personally, but that's a matter of taste. It's the people who act like it's objectively poorly done that annoy me. That's a ridiculous claim

You’re so pathetic. I like that I butthurt you so bad somewhere down the line that you always have to mention me in a negative light. You’re with Ghent on this, but he’s the one that is saying anyone who dares object to his personal preference is wrong. Way to go full retard Neal!

I don’t know anything about creating CGI graphics but I can say with certainty when something looks like dog shit
